I usually come here for either a birthday celebration or to catch a game with someone. I would give them a 4 because the service can be crappy on the really busy weekends, but I like coming here. its really cool. the jukebox has really good songs. the service and food overall is good. I would recommend this spot cause they are very friendly also.

The food is decent but the wait staff is cold and unfriendly, wow! Every one of them seems like they don’t want to be there. The steak sandwich is $ 12 and it’s NOT worth it. The meat is thin and very fatty. Good fries, good craft beers, and good wings, but again, that whole wait staff is unfriendly, show no interest in being there, and don’t seem happy. Lots of nice TV’s.

Great place to enjoy a drink and food. I enjoyed a Delicious Sutherland burger. Sutherlands has a great friendly and welcoming atmosphere. It is a great neighborhood pub and grill to meet up with old friends. The staff is friendly and cordial. They are always on their game with service and speed. I would recommend Sutherlands to anyone who wants to grab a drink and a good meal for a great price

Great place to get a bite to eat and a drink. The kids love going to Sutherland’s for lunch. The owners are very nice and welcome everyone. The staff is kind and efficient. Food is good and the price is right!

Friendly people and comfortable atmosphere. I would like to express my appreciation to the bartender who paid my tab. Your gesture was so kind and generous. Merry Christmas to you and to your family!

Menu looks good, but when it comes to the tasting… it’s not there! Had the Swiss melt burger which tasted«funky» Ate about ½ but couldn’t continue. Also tried the Beefy Lentil Soup… which was actually a thick stewy non-soup. More like a chili consistency. They need to rethink their quality and taste.

Excellent service and food. I’ve been here a couple of times, I highly recommend. The drinks are cold and stiff and the food has always been very very delishious! Family friendly. Check it out.

I hate to write this because the service was great and the place was very nice, the food good. But MANWASTHEMUSICLOUD for a Tuesday night at 6:30pm. It even got louder and by 8pm we had to leave it was blaring. We are not old people who hate music, we are going to Riot Fest for the 3rd year in a row. But it struck us as very odd for this place to have that vibe so early in the evening. It was almost like a Saturday night a 1am vibe. All we wanted to do is talk and watch the Cubs game.

Great food, service and drink! We are regulars that keep coming back because of the great food and service. The staff is always very attentive and the food comes out of the kitchen quick and hot. Sutherland’s is a real model for how to run a successful sports bar. Excellent craft beers and daily specials. I especially love the pub burgers and coconut shrimp. We like to go for lunch or an early dinner as it gets very crowded and loud later(after 9). Too bad the acoustics cannot be toned down a bit(subtracted 1 star for this reason) as it is sometimes deafening.

I would say this place has your typical bar food menu, but above average quality. Tot fan? You Vann chose them over chips or fries with your sandwich. The turkey burger is great, toppings are border line inventive, and it’s on a pretzel bun. The décor inside is beautiful! Their bar fridges look like old school ice box boxes, and they just might be since this location had been a bar ever since I could walk. The high table tops and faux tin ceiling complements the new/old feel. Honestly, this place it’s cheers in Portage Park, minus the warm staff. I can see the desire to have a friendly waitress, but if I’m eating, I don’t want you to chat with me. Bar staff on the other hand… need to step up the game. They have an excellent beer selection with craft, imports, and domestics, but not the greatest liquor and spirit options. This is a beer and burger joint all the way. Also, this isn’t Lincoln Square or Noeth Center. Leave the kids at home.

Have been here a few times and overall had good experiences. The food is good, the service has been good but the food comes out very slow when they’re busy so if you’re starving– get an app! The pretzels and cheese are good. Sliders are good. The burgers are good but a bit sloppy and hard to eat. They have a good beer selection and even got the goose island limited release blue line beer on draft. They offered us free tastings too! We live in the area so we will definitely be back

Sutherland’s had been bookmarked for a while and was in my general neighborhood so a visit was inevitable. My original thoughts were that this was a Martini Bar of sorts with some typical bar fare and small plates. However upon entering I quickly realized this is a sports bar. Ok no problem. But the windows were open and it was a warm humid day that day so that made seating a little uncomfortable. Maybe windows should be closed on hot days. If you want to sit outside just sit on the patio. My pre-work feastconsisted of the Pulled Pork Sandwich special(that’s what the sign says) but it really came out as three small Sliders. Ok fine whatever! My preference would have been one large sandwich but the sliders were quite good. Very tender and just the right amount of sauce. They came with Tater Tots which were also very good but they would crumble to the touch making them difficult to pick up. My fingers are now full of ketchup, not cool not cool! To wash it down I had an Oldie but Goodie(Old Fashioned) which was very dissapointing. It was way too sweet and watered down. An Old Fashioned is a sipping drink and it should be strong so you need ice cubes that can last for a while without diluting the product. In this case I was hardly half-way through my drink and no cubes to be found. Definetly a sports bar and not a serious place to drink. Big waste of money! Overall the food was good and service was pleasant. The place was clean and agreeable. However several missteps including an overly humid experience, crumbly Tater Tots, and a major issue the poorly made Old Fashioned rendered this joint a bit dissapointing. 3 stars I might be back I might not!

Nicely decorated bar which maintains a nice, new-looking appearance. I love that their bar is long, like 16 seats deep kinda long. The chairs are high chairs with a step for my lazy dogs and a hook by your knees for the ol’lady’s bag or some other crap we might be shlepping. My first visit was based solely on looks. In the past week whilst driving past, the place was crowded with smiles. I made a mental note to check it out on some random evening. On my first visit out my date mentioned rave reviews from her gal pal. I guess this is where she’ll grab a tasty bite, some good drinks and(maybe) a make out session with a random patron. On a recent occasion I wanted to bar trip down Irving Park road and this was our first stop. We enjoyed a couple seasonal brews, light appetizers and then jetted onto our next bar stop. Regarding service, our waiter could have been more inviting and checked on us more often. The place was bustling with Blackhawk’s fans hooting and hollering. I would bet that many were«regulars» and our waiter was merely«shooting the shit» a little too long with her regulars.

Burgers are outstanding Appetizers were ½ price about 2 on sat. Service was top shelf. Music was a touch loud for my taste, but I’m reasonably sure it’s normal for a tavern… I don’t do a lot of bars I would be back if we lived in the area!

I came to Sutherlands to meet a group of friends on a Saturday for the bulls game. The place is on the smaller size for a sports bar, but the ambiance was pleasant, HOWEVER the service from the waitstaff was horrendous! The waitresses were rude and the bar back was just as bad! I will not be back and will not recommend.

One Sunday, we ventured to Portage Park to grab a burger at Leadbelly’s. We’d never been and didn’t realize just how TINY that location is. I was getting really claustrophobic, so we left and had seen Sutherland’s on the drive over. I Unilocaled the neighborhood options and Sutherland’s seemed to have a decent amount of good reviews that we went for it. I was so happy to see that the interior was spacious. They have a nice long bar and lots of other seating options. It was St. Patty’s weekend and thank the gods, it wasn’t a shitshow. Drinks…standard beer selection. Nothing too out there, but a few decent craft brews. Food… I had a turkey burger that was miraculously moist. Turkey burgers tend to be super dry, so that was a pleasant surprise. Even better was the pretzel bun. Their tator tots were SODAMNGOOD. Super crispy and delicious. I plan to return.

Very pleasantly surprised. Was planning on meeting a friend for lunch at Leadbelly down the street only to find out they were closed for lunch so jumped on Unilocal to find the nearest decent place. Ended up happy Leadbelly was closed. I had a patty melt and tater tots. The patty melt was great, and what really set it apart was the onion jam. I love places that serve tater tots and these were done perfectly. I had to go back to work so did not try the beers but my friend did and was impressed with the selection.

Sports bar with a young spirit. The chips and guacamole are really good along with the wings. The place has a jukebox and well drinks are $ 4(at least when I came here on Friday). They got outside seating, but it’s right by Irving Park Road and cars pass by constantly. Overall, for the area it’s in, it’s a pretty decent place.

Needed to meet a friend for a drink on Friday after work and basically found this place on Unilocal.I wanted to stay between both of our routes home –me and Rogers Park and him in Bensenville. I figured was«in the middle» and he could jump on 90 afterwards or take Irving home. I’m glad I chose this place. Our whole tab was only $ 34 for the«first round» which was one meal for me(3 mini burgers with tater tots) and about 4 beers between the two of us. If I’m not mistaken, the beers were only $ 5 each, which for craft brews, I thought was a really great deal. I had the Lagunitas Little Suthin’ Suthin’, a new favorite, and another with hibiscus which I cannot remember. They had a pretty decent beer list and I really enjoyed my burger and tots. The inside was a little loud –playing Top 40 hits. It is a typical Chicago bar –long and narrow, front to back. The crowd was diverse –seemed like neighborhood folks. We sat on the patio with a nice breeze and it offered a little more quiet to have a conversation without having to yell over the music. All in all, a great experience. Glad I found it on Unilocal and will definitely go back for an after work drink!
