Sunrise is the perfect unpretentious breakfast/brunch/lunch place to hit up if you’re in the neighborhood. Love their bottomless(Intelligensia!) coffee and Greek omelette. Good food + good prices = happy Natalie. Gets pretty crowded on the weekends, but that’s the norm, so just get up a little early or wait until the brunch rush is over.

Loved this local find! We were renting an Air BnB right down the street and came here twice on our trip. Both times the food was stellar. Perfect spot for your favorite breakfast staples with a little Mexican flair. Coming from Denver our Mexican food is a bit different, but it was fun to try this mid-west flair. We had the Chilaquiles and Huevos one day and they were both great! Not the green chili we’re used to, but really good, flavorful, and fresh! Everyone was friendly and the service was good. Definitely check this spot out if your in the area you won’t be disappointed.

It’s late morning and I’m sitting in a comfy booth at Sunrise Café eating breakfast and working– courtesy of the friendly owners, a couple, who were working at the booth with piles of paperwork when I came in, but kindly offered to me because I needed a place to plug in as my laptop was running low. Sunrise offers free WIFI in addition to a tasty menu. I’m sipping good coffee while enjoying a made-to-order egg white omelette with veggies with provolone cheese and green tomato sauce with a side of crispy, perfectly executed bacon. This is my favorite place in the world to work outside of home and also to take my kids for weekend brunches. Everyone is super nice, including the waitstaff who recommended my low carb, guilt-free, but filling and delicious meal. This place just feels like home. That’s what keeps me coming back.

I’ve only ordered delivery for my co-workers and I and we were surprised how delicious delivery can be! The best hash browns and pancakes I have come across. Even after it’s sat a while here at work before we got to it. The eggs are always how I ask for it. They don’t mess up orders, they are prompt, there is very much attention to detail, food is fantastic and on and on. I can’t wait to stop in one day and have a sit down breakfast at Sunrise.

My husband and I have both been to Sunrise throughout the years, but hadn’t been in years. My husband works nights, so he sleeps late into the day so we can never do brunch. Mondays and Tuesdays are his days off, so we started making them our brunch days. I love Sunrise! When you open the door it feels like you are in a small town somewhere, it has a real«down-home» feel to it. They have a wide variety of breakfast and lunch options, we have had the majority of them and they are all good. My favorite is the tuna melt and the BLT for lunch options and basically any one of the omelets for a breakfast option. There is a waitress there, Casey, that is super friendly, attentive and quick. She is always there and really adds the friendly touch to the already good vibe of the place. We love her! You would think she was the owner, but she isn’t, by the level of customer service she gives. So, if you are sick of the pretentious brunch spots all over this city and just want some good food, good service and a cozy spot that feels like home, go to Sunrise. Ask for Casey, she will take real good care of you!

Hashbrowns so good I almost ordered up a second round! Sunrise Café is an old school diner in Ukrainian Village, and on a whim I stopped in for breakfast with my hubby. I ordered up a breakfast sandwich with scrambled eggs and turkey sausage, and a side of toast with a tomato slice… and hashbrowns. Crispy crunchy, Not too potatoey, Salted just right, Not too greasy, A fantastic delight. They serve Intelligentsia coffee here. It’s not my favorite diner coffee, but I know a lot of other people who like it. Nice waitress. Clean bathrooms. Did I mention great hashbrowns? *Two meals and two cups of coffee for $ 25.

It is pretty hilarious that we have never actually stepped foot in this place but we order food from here whenever we are feeling really lazy and want a delicious breakfast. It’s the perfect diner food. I love getting an omelette and my husband always orders the rocky mountain eggs. They give good portions and the food and delivery is always great.

I love a good simple breakfast spot. This isn’t a spot to brunch with friends. This is a spot to have a good affordable breakfast and a solid cup of coffee. There are not many places like this in the area so let’s keep it a secret.

I came in for an iced tea and got talked into trying their chilaquiles… O. M. G. They were AWESOME. You would never expected such flavor from this little place with a name like Sunrise Café; I typically would have gone after some eggs and has browns or something like that. But the Chilaquiles are the best I’ve ever had. Great mix of flavors and textures with the homemade tomatillo sauce as the rockstar. It was both creamy with surprising crunchy bits of tortilla slathered with egg and cheese and delicious sauce. The beans and rice sides were great compliments as well. I don’t live anywhere near Ukrainian Village, but I will venture out there just to this meal again. Oh, and the service was friendly with enough sass to keep you smiling. Highly recommend.

Great food in Ukrainian Village! It’s a casual diner with a great soul. Tofu scramble is probably the best in the city! Biscuits are fresh. Great variety for non-veg and veg alike. You won’t be disappointed. The staff is very prompt and helpful! We will definitely be coming back here!

Great little breakfast joint. They have good coffee, good food, no pretension, and no wait on a weekend. Their chilequiles are great, and the pancakes looked lovely as well — I don’t often get over to this neighborhood, but if I have errands here again I will surely plan to go in the morning so I can visit Sunrise Café and try the pancakes next time.

I think OK sums this place up. I went with the Breakfast Taco’s and the short stack pancakes. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t a place I will need to revisit. The taco’s were a little soggy with the cheese and the pancakes were O-K. If your in the area and need of brunch it’s an okay spot.

Barely anyone in. Sat and waited for 15 minutes. Was acknowledged but ignored thereafter. Not even a coffee or water pour. Lost my patience after 15 and left. Can’t rate anything other than the customer service. Which didn’t exist.

3.5 stars. I had warned my out of town friend that Chicagoans take their brunch seriously and the lines can be notoriously long. Despite the intention to get up earlier, we strolled in a little after 10:30 on a Sunday morning. I expected a wait which was not good as my stomach was growling. I was please find that they had immediate availability in the back covered patio. The temperature in the back area fluctuated a bit(dress in layers), but the additional seating was a nice option. Service was pretty good. Our waitress was friendly and quick. They always made sure that our water was full and offered my friend more coffee. The OJ was tasty although my friend did not care for her coffee. The food was your standard breakfast fare although they offered a wide range of options. It is nice that they offered lunch options at all times to satisfy less brunch-loving palates. We both ordered the sunrise special which had bacon or sausage, two pancakes, two eggs and hash browns. The portions are large. The hash browns weren’t cooked as requested(crispy) and weren’t as hot as they should be. However, the bacon was deliciously crispy and the eggs cooked to order. The pancakes were pretty fluffy and probably my favorite part. It isn’t exactly mind blowing brunch, but they do the basics well. Overall, it is a solid brunch spot and I would certainly come back. Best of all, it was $ 10 a person.

Walked in on a Saturday morning and was seated immediately. Nothing special about the ambiance just kind of typical diner feel but the food makes up for it. Got the special Mexican eggs Benedict with chipotle hollandaise sauce. Yummmmm the sauce was to die for. The chorizo sausage was phenomenal. My boyfriend got the chorizo skillet and his was good but he wished he’d gotten the Benedict as well.

I’ve been here a few times over the course of several years for brunch mostly. Each time it’s been a solid choice. It usually doesn’t have much of a wait if any, as opposed to some of the other brunch spots in the area. The prices are really reasonable and the portions are really solid. I had the chorizo scramble and it totally hit the spot. Lots of chorizo and lots of scramble. The service is always fast and waitresses are always friendly. Solid.

We tried to give this place a chance but I wasn’t impressed. We sat down to breakfast & upon taking out orders(egg that come with 2 slices of toast) I asked if it were possible to get a 1 wheat &1 white. She shook her head & said, «We don’t allow substitutions» I said I’d just pay for the upgrade to get a slice of wheat bread with the white bread. She said again, «No substitutions of any kind!» It just seemed odd, I was offering to PAY for the bread– which is ridiculous since my meal came with 2 slices of toast… and I asked for 1 white &1 wheat. I’m not sure why it’s an issue but apparently, there’s no substitutions of ANY kind at all. IF I’m offering to PAY for it, what’s the big issue? EDIT **I’m not sure how or why the owner is acting this way as a response to my review but– I didn’t LIE about anything nor do I have an agenda. My family & I were there this past weekend & this DIDHAPPEN. Maybe they need to be more in tune with what their waitresses are TELLING people. She REFUSED my substitution flat out saying they didn’t allow it & if she claims she did, she’s a liar. It appears to be upsetting to the owner, but as much as it may pain the owner to hear. I’m not lying, sorry. Instead of calling every negative review a lie, they need to be a little more professional & listen to the problems instead of ignoring them. I’m not out to ruin anyone business. What’s the point of Unilocal if you can’t be HONEST about a business without them going off?

We sat outside on the patio, it is now enclosed which is nice for the winter but during the summer it is a hotbox back there. They need to add more fans or something else before I will sit out back again during the summer. The food it always solid here and they have an extensive list of lunch options during brunch for those of us who are big breakfast fans. The only complaint is that the price of adding avacado is $ 1.50 which is a bit steep on price at a place that it is 25%-20% of the cost of most meals.

Originally, I was captivated by the Ron Swanson shrine a few doors down at WHISK because I, too, wanted to order all the bacon. Unfortunately, the wait for WHISK was an hour, and Sunrise Café also had great reviews on Unilocal. First of all, the wait staff are extremely nice. Water was constantly filled, which was definitely necessary on a scorching hot Sunday. Celine was super nice and always asked if we needed something. Making a decision of what to eat was the most time consuming part of my experience. I ended up ordering two eggs over easy with a side of corned beef hash. It’s nothing amazing, but a great deal for a good amount of food. Everything was less than $ 10 per person, so I can’t complain about that. This place has a homey diner feel, which is always good.

I really enjoy walking into an establishment and being greeted by folks who are genuinely happy to serve you. My waitress, Mandy, was sincere and cheerful at 8am– making my breakfast experience extra pleasant. I had breakfast tacos, filled with eggs, green peppers, onions and sausage. I definitely recommend asking for a side of their homemade tomatillo sauce(like a traditional salsa verde) it was not too spicy and tasted very fresh. I will absolutely come back, the folks here are respectful and casual– just the way I like. Thank you sunrise café.
