Normally Rosa J. doesn’t mind fulfilling the responsibility for grocery shopping, but she prefers to be carefree and wants to forget that she’s also a wife who needs to feed her husband! Luckily, Sun Fresh Market & Deli is around the corner from her house.
SFMD is rather tiny. Prices for agricultural products are reasonable; qualities of fresh veggies, fruit, poultry, and seafood are average. However, the convenience factor alone is four (4)-star worthy, in lazy Rosa J.‘s opinion.
SFMD has a good variety of Polish and Mexican ethnic products, in which reflects the demographics of the Portage Park/Belmont Central neighborhoods. Bakery goods from a local panaderia is also available.
Certainly SFMD isn’t a grocery store you travel ten (10) miles to get there, yet it’s awesome for those who live within a walking distance or happening to pass through. Customer parking is available on Central.

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS STORE!
It is a little family owned business, which gives it a very warm and welcoming feeling once you enter.
All the employees are very polite and friendly which makes every visit a pleasant one.
I have never encountered such good butchers like Fernando and Jasper. Not only are their prices good but the butchers always put you first even when they don’t have the meat you came for in the first place they never have a problem actually ordering it specially for you.
Going regularly to this store really builds a family feel to it not only because its a family own business so everyone helps each other but the fact that they actually ask you how your day is and mean it and the next time you stop by they remember you is really a good feeling.
Kathy is a wonderful person who owns the business and I have never met anyone as involved with her customers as she is.
Will not stop coming in for my Krak

Not the best place for fresh produce, even in a pinch. I’d rather go without. I do get my deli meats and cheeses. Great prices on both.
Why? Why? Why? is there only ONE register open when there’s a line all the way back to the meat counter? I spent over 10 minutes waiting in line. Definitely not cool. :(

It’s definitely gotten better… I still don’t buy deli meat there, but that’s just me. I have not had another experience with out of date products, and the produce selection, while small, it is of good quality
