I recently moved to MI, but went to Amy for my brazillian wax on a monthly basis. Obviously, this is a personal and somewhat painful service… but Amy puts you at ease. She is very personable and I enjoyed catching up on the recent occurences in our lives during every visit! I highly recommend Amy! If I had not moved, I would still be a regular!

To the person who is contemplating whether or not to get waxed because they’re scared to death(like I was) of the possible agonizingly painful experience or because they just have no idea what to expect… I highly recommend that you let Amy(the owner) put your fears to rest. So here’s my story: I was in dire need of a waxing but was too chicken to go and actually get the deed done until I came across a really great offer of hers on . I purchased it thinking to myself, «Well, now I have no choice but to get waxed because I can’t let a certificate go to waste.» A couple months later, I finally made the phone call. Amy answered right away and I explained to her that I had never gotten waxed before and that I had a few questions about the whole process. She was very understanding and took the time to address all of my concerns. So, I mustered up the strength to actually commit to an appointment and she was very willing to work around my narrow schedule. I was only available that Friday early afternoon and she gladly squeezed me in for a 1:30 appointment. I took my boyfriend with me(because I needed some major support) and we arrived at the appointment 10 minutes early. She was waiting right outside her studio just for me and welcomed me with a warm smile. The studio boasts privacy, comfortability, and all sorts of luxuries like sweet treats, coffee, great music, and a nice array of movies to watch on her wall mounted tv. Everything was all ready to go and she began waxing my legs right away while making friendly small talk. I was super nervous as she spread the warm wax on my legs and braced myself for«the yank.» Well, it was kinda like getting a shot. At first, there’s that pinch; but after that, nothing! No pain! And that’s exactly how it was the rest of the time. The small talk turned into great conversation and laughter that, before you knew it, I had smooth & silky legs. Seriously. 95% of the time, I couldn’t even tell she was waxing me. I couldn’t believe how easy it all was; I have dark, coarse hair and never thought my legs could feel this smooth and look this great. She made me feel comfortable, I felt like I was at home. She’s sweet and easygoing, I felt like I could completely be myself around her. And the pricing is affordable($ 45 for both full legs!); it’s almost unfair considering the type of quality treatment she gives. She made my very first wax a memorable one and I will definitely be returning for more waxing, and probably a hair cut too. Take it from me. I was the biggest scaredy cat and now I’m hooked!

When Amy Gargiulo left American Male, I was truly disappointed. Amy had been cutting my hair for over three years and she knew exactly how I wanted my hair to look. I loved going to American Male, but Amy is a special stylists. Her new salon is beautifully decorated. She has a flat screen TV, stereo, and best of all, the bathroom is less than ten steps away. Anyone who is an American Male client can appreciate the bathroom comment. It’s a haul for me to get to Amy’s place(I live in the South Loop), but it’s well worth it.

I have been going to Amy for years and she is by far the best hairstylist. She is extremely patient and will listen to every detail. Amy will work with you until you are completely satisfied with your haircut. She is very talented and experienced. Since I’m an Asian guy with very thick/coarse hair, it has been extremely difficult to find the right hairstylist. My hair is very difficult to cut and it takes someone with skill and she definitely has it. She takes her time and is very meticulous. She use to work at American Male(where I went before) and recently opened her own shop. It’s the ultimate one-on-one experience. She has taken it to another level that is personalized. You truly feel comfortable since you don’t have other guys/people watching you while you’re getting your haircut. You can have a beverage, relax and watch a game on her flat screen. There’s no fluff with her service and approach. You truly get a unique, personal service that you cannot get anywhere else at a very reasonable price.

Amy Gargiulo, formerly of American Male, opened up her own shop here in Lincoln Park. I was really devastated when Amy left AM because she did not leave a forwarding address and I had no idea on where to get a haircut. My hair was going ragged as I searched the Internets for her. luckily I started a talk thread here in Unilocal and some Unilocalers managed to find her! Thank god, they did because Amy gives the best haircut in Chicago. no joke. It is so good I don’t make the commute from River North — it takes a LOT for me to brave the Lincoln Park traffic — and Amy is it! I took the 22 bus home — very easy all around. She takes her time to make it just right, and the wax hand treatment and facial massage is just a big nice bonus!!! I really recommend her, try her, you won’t be disappointed.

So I had a certificate for here and I saw Amy today for some much-needed waxing and it was a pleasant experience. Cute little studio, huge tv playing food network(great distraction when having hair ripped out at the root) and she was really pleasant and friendly. With work and school and life, my maintenance has been neglected for a while, so it felt like I was in there for a long time(again, partially my fault) and the room was kinda warm and really bright. So even though it was a neat room, its not set up for a spa-like ambiance. After reading the reviews on here, it seems like waxing maybe isn’t her primary focus and the setup reflected that a little, but it still was a good experience! Overall, a little warm(which I suspect was slowing the wax setting up, in turn making the whole process go a little slowly), a little bright, but a really cute clean studio, pleasant personality, great tv/sound setup for distraction, and good technique!
