At the time of this writing, I’ve got about $ 30 worth of Starbuck’s gift cards in my possession and I pass at least 3 on my way to Stubbs every morning. It is exactly what I’m looking for in a coffee shop: über-friendly staff, comfortable vibe and a GREAT cup of coffee. Seriously, I drink a lot of coffee and this puts to shame Starbuck’s and many other smaller shop’s house cup. Free WiFi to boot! Check them out.

I love this place. The coffee is good, the sandwiches are surprisingly good, and they have free wifi. but more importantly, it’s truly a local hangout. The owner and employees are great people, and they have good taste in music. and with a Starb – ks and a Julius M — -l near, it’s really important to support local biz when the chains are so willing to take dollars away.

I really like this small café, but unfortunately, I’m never around when they’re open. Boo. That being said, if you are around when they are open, you should definitely stop by. The coffee is good and has always been fresh– and the employees are genuinely nice and helpful. This is the only independent coffee shop in this area… so go. Spend all your money here so they start staying open later and I can start studying here! Oh, and the sandwiches are good too!

I found this place yesterday while looking for a Non-buck’s, but only after walking a couple blocks north to another place that I was pretty lukewarm about. It was one of those«Oh man» moments when you find a place 4 blocks closer to your house. I tried them out moments ago, chatted with both the owners for a bit and will be back several more times before I die. The drip coffee was out but they made me a fresh cup while chatting about a photo on the wall. Some day I may even try the food. Totally worth walking an extra 4 blocks for local tasty Non-buck’s brew.

This is an absolutely awesome little coffee shop/café. The food is great and the coffee is even better. Compared to Stubbs’ coffee, Starbucks tastes like dirt(Starbucks tastes a little like scorched earth to begin with, but I digress). The vibe at Stubbs is very laid back. It’s a good place to go relax with some coffee and reading material. It’s also a good place to go to work(they have free wi-fi). If you live in the neighborhood or you’re just passing through, definitely check this place out.

Love this coffee shop. The neighborhood only offers Starbucks, so this is a great addition. I come here a decent amount and I’m usually the only one! I’m not sure why, it’s a great place. The grilled cheese sandwiches are delicious, the chai lattes and coffee is wonderful, and there are a good selection of teas. Good art, friendly baristas, overall love it.

This is the first review I’ve written while actually IN the place I’m reviewing. Stubbs Café is a really laid back, bright space with great coffee(and this is coming from a girl who doesn’t particularly like coffee – usually Dunkin Donuts coffee is the way I go). They have a small offering of paninis, which I would have tried had it not been cash only(and this is a minus one star for me, since I never carry cash on me). They seem to have all flavors of Vitamin Water(a plus!) and a small assortment of muffins and scones and the like. Of course, you can’t go wrong with free wi-fi and friendly service. If you need a quiet, friendly atmosphere to hang with your computer during the day, Stubbs is the place to be. However, beware of their days-only hours and acceptance of cash payment only. I’ll definitely be back to chill out.

:cash only: I could not fathom a better place to spend a rainy Thursday. Bright(well, as bright as possible, I suppose), open, relatively clean… full of nomadic, studious folks. Laptops aplenty, original art splayed about, and some kitschy/strange décor to polish it off.(pictures of the Last Supper, how appropriate). Parking is easy peasy along this stretch during the day. Barristas are those cool kind of barristas that care about the coffee. I had a turkey and Jarlsberg panini, and it was excellent for $ 5.95. Made fresh, sprinkled with pesto, perfection. They have a small, yet well thought out menu… a few sandwich offerings, pastries and of course coffee and tea. As I sit here snuggled up to an old radiator and a retro olive green leather ottoman, in the company of strangers, I am feeling happy that this place exists. Stubbs gets the coffee shop experience. I’ll be back. *free wifi.

It is not possible not to love a place with a collection of «last supper» paintings. i had the brie and tomato and spinach sandwich and it was super good, with lots of everything, although afterwards my tongue turned into a salt lick, because i am sure that no human is supposed to ingest that much brie in one sitting. Unlike Lot, though, I did not look back.

Extremely friendly! Great coffee, pastries, and artsy ambiance. Very passionate about whey do. The owner remembered my husband and I after just a few times of stopping in. Great place! Support this local coffee café!

I really wanted Stubb’s to be the first place I reviewed while I was actually there. Unfortuantely, my wireless wouldn’t cooperate(my laptop can’t access security coded networks for some reason — arg!) I love Stubb’s. I love the intended sarcasm of it’s name. I love that it is a local coffee shop and not some behemoth corporate abomination, and I love that you can tell this from the second you walk in. The barista’s are nice, helpful, and aren’t in uniform. The coffee is excellent. The food menu sounds amazing. The ever changing array of artwork is interesting, unique, and not something you’d see for sale in Pottery Barn. I love Stubb’s for everything it isn’t.

My wife and I spend more time here than most other restaurants combined. Pretty much every Saturday morning actually… all morning. They use coffee from a local Italian roaster and make their drinks strong! The owner Peirce and his baristas(Rob and Becca) all make consistently superior drinks, they source solid local pastries, and they’re just fun to hang out with. Easily my favorite coffee shop in Chicago. Plus, we like the idea of having a REAL espresso drink rather than the push-button McMachines at Starbuck’s.

Free wifi… Grab a coffee… The staff is so friendly… and… This was a total shock but my friend got a quesadilla and it was really really really good! They used a different kind of cheese that made it taste so good with the fresh guacamole… I forget what the cheese is called but damn it was good… p. s. though… i had a piece left over and zapped it to eat as leftovers but it wasn’t too good… but… that’s all reheated cheese! Just sayin!!!(i don’t want anyone going, «ehw tristin said that it was good but i ordered it and let it sit for 4 hours and it sucked because the fresh guacamole turned brown and the cheese was hard and tasted like rubber after it put it in the microwave…» hahaha…)

I’m a huge fan of Stubbs. It’s a great, small coffee shop. I love the independent nature and spirit of the place. The walls are lined with fun art and photography. It’s a coffee shop and doesn’t try to be anything else or than a place that serves coffee and serves as a great hangout. I love their unpretenious approach to coffee and tea. The coffee is great and isn’t some boring run of the mill brand. They serve Fratelli Bros. coffee which produced and roasted locally. I’ve gifted this coffee a few times and received a lot of compliments for it. For the summer, I like their iced chai tea. During the winter, their mochas are excellent. The staff is great and always friendly. It’s a great coffee shop and wonderful addition to Lincoln Avenue.

I’ve only been here once, but I really enjoyed it that one time! I’m glad it’s down the street from me, and if I was still a student I’d be there constantly! The coffee was really good, and the barista was really friendly. Yay for independent coffee shops!

«Good-humored, easy, and careless, he presided over his whaleboat as if the most deadly encounter were but a dinner, and his crew all invited guests.»(Moby-Dick, Ch. 27) in reference to Stubb the second mate of the Pequod, and for whom Stubbs Coffee is apparently named after, Starbuck was the first mate, I love a bit of literary reference in the shops I visit, not to mention the subtle jab. I had been driving past this place for the last few months always wanting to stop but never had the time. I finally made the time and I’m glad I did. Stubbs Coffee is a nice little store, bright, airy and comfortable, with free WiFi, if that is important to you. Good coffee at decent prices and some nice choices of other drinks and sodas as well as lunches and pastries. I’m sure I will make the time to stop back again.

I stopped into Stubbs with the roommate for a lazy Sunday afternoon. I had a hot chocolate and she enjoyed a mocha– yum. We loved the comfortable atmosphere, the cute barista behind the counter, and the free WiFi! Sidenote: It took me many years, but I am now officially addicted to coffee, and I have to say– Stubbs has the best around!

This place is an easy one block walk from my office so I fill up often. Rob is usually manning the barista when I drop in and makes a mean soy latte(beans from Fratelli in Schiller Park). They play a great variety of music so I can enjoy my coffee and sandwich(courtesy of hot chocolate(see my review below)) while I read at the couch or tables. I’ll let you know when I try the bennison’s pastries. Skip starbucks and caribou, go here!

OK, Stubbs is brand spankin’ new– it opened last weekend. This area needed a nice little café SO bad! I’ve only checked it out once so far, but it looks like this place is doing it right! First– the coffee’s really good. I didn’t notice what brand it is or anything like that, but it tasted great– the guy who made mine knew what he was doing. I had a really yummy almond croissant! All the other baked goods looked good too. I can definitely recommend what I tried. They also had some good looking sandwiches packed up and ready to go, but I didn’t get a chance to check ‘em out yet. The space itself is nice– they’ve got a little gallery space where you can sit and relax, with some interesting art on the walls for sale. The place is NEW and everything seems very clean and shiny. I get over this way a lot to visit my Sister, pick up stuff at Trader Joes, etc. so I’ll be checking it out more for sure. I’m so happy to see an independent café doing business serving quality in an area that’s lacking options!
