I never was a fan of this place. Cramped spacing, water downed drinks, rude patrons and servers. There’s better gay nightspots to enjoy the weekend then here. I pretty much avoid it like the plague.

I used to(a few years ago) come here and have a pretty good time, but the past several times I’ve gone have not been worth getting on the EL for. Last time I went I was dragged by friends and didn’t even finish my beer before I dipped out. Mixed drinks are watered down, staff isn’t particularly friendly or attentive, there’s usually a cover, and it’s generally pretty empty, most definitely aren’t(m)any women here. The space itself could be cool and the drag performances are usually good, but neither is enough for me to waste any time here. Last time I went I got in for free, still not worth it. Maybe stop in during pride?

Came here for a drag show night when Kit Kat didn’t work out. They had a pretty decent deal: $ 20 went to charity, and the show included 2 well drinks with it. A lot of the other bars in the area only do their drag shows on weeknights, so it was nice that they had something going on a Saturday. The show itself is fun. Some performers are better than others, but overall it’s a fun night out. The downside is the layout of the place. There’s a teeny tiny stage in the corner, and everyone crowds in tight to watch the show. So if you’re there for the show, know that you will stand the entire time. There are a few high top tables available, but you probably won’t be able to see if you’re sitting there. There is an intermission, so everyone disperses briefly to get refills before the second act. The performers usually wait around after a show and are super nice and do pictures with audience members :)

I wasn’t here on a crowded night, I’m sure this place is really hopping on Friday/Saturday nights though. There was a cover charge and there was nothing going on there! The bartenders don’t know how to make their drinks. I had ordered a long island iced tea and they ruined the entire thing by making it with orange fanta. Get wasted somewhere else, then come here and dance.

Well, that’s really gone down hill. I used to go to Spin for their Wednesday night $ 1 drink dance party all the time in 2009. I quit going after they raised the cover charge and I got tired of dealing with over-capacity crowds of sweaty, scary-looking, trashy people, many with neck tattoos. Plus the music was really bad. Tonight I found that it just wasn’t crowded at all, despite the fact that the basement dance floor room wasn’t even open(it used to be packed, high energy, and wild). The other three rooms were open: the back bar still had a dance DJ playing WAY too loud; the upstairs lounge was deserted; and the front bar, which was the most populated, featured unbearable noise(the VJ must think it’s «music»). The people who were there weren’t attractive or friendly. Their outdoor patio space was open past 11, which I think must be illegal.(Plus, who lives in those apartments??) On the plus side, drinks are still $ 1. Pity.

Spin has to be my favorite place in the Boyztown strip. The music is always good, they have pool, dancing, drag performances, and a huge dance floor. I suck at pool, but I love that they have pool tables because it makes for fun conversation. Mondays are dollar night, but I don’t drink dollar drinks. Dollar drinks are for novice drinkers. They are so watered down you will barely taste the alcohol.

Before I turned 21 I had an idea of what Spin was from walking by, friends’ stories, other things I’ve heard, etc. I saw it as the place people who wanted to look like they were someone went. I still walk by it on weekend nights and hear the loud music and the«photo» thing outside but look inside to see emptiness. I’ve also heard it’s even lamer after midnight(which I found to be true). Drinks here are watered down, which is bad. However, when they do $ 1 drink specials, 5 or 6 of the drinks will get you tipsy which isn’t all that bad! The bartenders aren’t too knowledgeable, though. I’m a student so I do get free/reduced cover, but I don’t see why anyone would pay to come here. There are lots of straight people and nobody is ever dancing, less the occasional scantily-glad go-go boy. This is not a place to go dancing or clubbing or have a genuinely good time. It’s more of a place to go with your friends after pregaming before clubbing. I can see myself going here with a few friends just to chill and hang out instead of dancing or clubbing. And FORTHISREASON I give it a third star.

Always entertaining. Cute little half naked gay men everywhere keeps the mood light. I usually bring a flask to perk up the drinks and have an extra fun time. The music is good and there is lots of room to dance and get lost in. Showed up here once on drag night… that was fun!

$ 5 cover, watered down drinks, okay music, dead rooms. This was Friday night… There was a shower contest(I know I was supposed to appreciate the semi-hot people dancing around in the water but I just thought of how cold it was outside… and two looked underage, ew) but it ended at midnight and so did EVERYTHINGINTHECLUB. Zero dancing, over half the people left… So, we did also. Maybe it was a randomly dead Friday night? I can’t be the only person dancing. That’s too awkward. A star for okay music, a star for the bartenders not ignoring me. Four for you, Glen Coco, you go Glen Coco!(And none for the rest of Spin.)

Lots of room to dance, great music! 2000’s tunes all night. Hell yeah. I was there the night they had the«stoplight» party. Ive got to say I’m not used to NOT being hit on. Lol Good drinks though. And great spot. Big windows. Cover at the door though

As a young gay man, I don’t really understand Spin. I mean it has everything a young tweenster like myself would need– booze, boys, and lots and lots of the GAGA. not so much for me though. I don’t really like the fact that Spin advertises their bartenders and staff as if they are really hot– I mean I’m sure they are cute to somebody. I’m writing this review from a recent shower contest I went attended. Upon walking in, there was hardly anybody there and looking around I felt like I was invited to a pig party at a fraternity(where guys find the ugliest girls as their date). The host of the shower contest was as feminine as they come, and pranced around the shower as if he was stomping around in his moms high heels. I don’t know who is getting turned on by this, but it certainly wasn’t me. The staff is rude and as pretentious as they come. They throw there watered down well drinks at you as if there shit don’t stank. All in all, please just avoid this place. And to all you lesbians out there, don’t worry they are rude to me too and I have a penis.

Went here to see Raja perform(so beautiful… amazing performance of course). The stage was smaller than I expected, but made it very intimate and more fun. The music was typical techno, but they drinks were strong and bartenders were cute. I adore that the bartenders have business cards called Trick cards :) fabulous. It is also a nice place to go for a low key after work drink and play pool. The reason for a three star rating is because I have heard from way too many different people that the club has treated women pretty poorly. I did not experience this, but when you hear such detailed accounts from people and in news stories it can be pretty alarming.

Hey, $ 1 drink specials are appealing on Wednesdays. However, the drink specials are not so appealing when they give you tiny plastic cups. It is not really worth it as I just have rather ordered regular sized drinks with better quality alcohol. I do like the dance floor on the other side of the venue and the various spaces around the bar. However, one bartender in particular made my experience a not so memorable one. This person served other people first before serving me AND took forever to close out my large tab. Actually, I should have reflected this when I closed out my bill, but my tip goes to everyone else too.

I stumbled upon this bar with a few friends on a Monday night. There was a pretty good crowd for a Monday. I would say that this bar has potential to be great. They appear to have great specials every night with free pool and karaōke on Mondays. (Sidenote: the two pool tables have only one rack and two sticks that are useable.) Unfortunately, the bar doesn’t reach its potential because the bartenders are rude and unfriendly. My friend could not get a glass of water although everyone else had purchased a drink. Also, when I went to get a second drink one bartender who had been talking to the«bouncer» looked at me and then waved me off to return talking to his co-worker. The bartenders did appear friendly to other customers, so maybe its because I don’t fit their notion of a standard customer, which appeared to be mostly white homosexuals.

The only downside is that, unfortunately, some of the bartenders really are assholes. On the bright side, this place is downright fun. Wednesday nights are the only nights I go, because I love $ 1 drinks. The music is different in every room, but my favorite spot is the basement. It’s a high-energy club with a weird and fun range of people. There are lots of other good spots right around too… so if you’re not feelin it, you can bet there’s something good right around. $ 1 drinks on wednesday + fun people + an environment that is welcoming to everyone + over the top music and drag = a place that i’ll go back to at least once every month or so!

Here are some things you need to know before you make the decision on whether you want to visit Spin: 1. If you MUST go here, the ONLY night to go is on Wednesdays when it’s $ 1 drink night, It’s not worth it any other night. 2. Repeat number 1 aloud to everyone around you. 3. The bar staff is rude and full of attitude. 4. The word on the street is they don’t want lesbians in their bar as «that’s not the type of clientele we represent» — the owner of Spin said in an interview with the Chicago Tribune. EEK!

We stopped in here to see Jade from Rupaul’s Drag Race, and I must say if it weren’t for her, I would give this a lower rating.(But then again I don’t give 1 star ratings since I like to support independent businesses and want them to survive) However, I’d like to point out issues that establishments needs to work on. It was my first time at Spin, and I was disappointed with the service. I do agree with some of the reviewers about the bartenders. Some are kind of sassy and doesn’t even say thank you even after you tip them. What happened to customer service? Management needs to have a serious chat with those people. The drink selection is very limited, and we weren’t even offered any drink specials. No O’doule, No Pale Ale, No Hard Cider, No Prosecco. What’s up with that? Not all of us drink hard liquor! Don’t bother asking the bartenders because they don’t want to be bothered. Drinks are pricey here for such a tiny selection, and their wireless is also very spotty. My friend and I were so bummed out that we left the place after an hour. We paid the entrance fee for nothing and didn’t get to see Jade’s performance. :(

I used to go to spin on a regular basis, and it was usually a good time. But after reading Kathryn’s review and the link she posted It seems obvious that Spin was geared more towards men, but we’d still come here for the cheap drink specials. But now that its apparent that the owners screwed a bunch of female event planners and so forth, never coming back.

Well of course at one time, SPIN was the club to be at. I still go there occasionally on a Sunday with the partner and we play some pool and have a few coctails of course. Nick use to bartend here and we always had a ball with him. But alas he is no longer there. I remember when spin was a small little spot on the corner with its read ambiance walls and darkened windows, Now its a bit more than it was. Gone are the darkened windows and now there is a new basement and 2nd level VIP meet and greet lounge overlooking the basement part. I have met a few friends here from Nina Flowers(Rupauls Drag Race) to others. Its a really nice experience to take in all that is here. I rather enjoy the nice and classy spots, well, its not the classiest but it is up there now with the new decour. I enjoy Robert(the local club promoter) who knows his thing. The drinks are nice and the all you can eat popcorn makes you drink more. I rather enjoy the slow Sundays and the nice and calm atmosphere. Check it out, the place to start off in Boystown than you work your way North.

Still four-stars, but I wanted to add that Andi the bartender makes really awesome dirty martinis. I loved it. :) Oh, and I hate that even when they closed off the downstairs dance floor, the restrooms are still located downstairs… Didn’t they use to have restrooms upstairs as well? That’s a bit of a hassle.
