I was an art student in college at the time. I was not only a little star-​struck & awe-​inspired, but I was also a little disappointed by it all. Ever watch a movie called Art School Confidential? It was kind of like that. Lots of raw talent, tons of copy cat art making tons of money, celebrity artists surrounded by foo-​foo high rollers & little students like me watching the politics of what was supposed to be, a liberating field happen all at once. I won’t name celebrity artists, but one was disgusted by the charade of it all & told everyone that art had lost its purity & left. Another was clearly seduced by his new celebrity status and couldn’t get enough attention! I grew-​up that weekend. Art is still my first love but I see it for all its flaws now as well.
