I’m torn. On one hand I appreciate the fact that this is healthy takeaway. Too often I fall into eating garbage on the go because I’m starving and don’t have time to make something. This place takes away your excuses. It’s very comforting to know I can grab something there to eat now or take a few meals home for later when I’m busy and know I want to eat well. But then there’s the other part of me that says this is an overpriced Lean Cuisine. I’ve had some pretty good dishes here(beef stroganoff, spaghetti – and by good I mean inoffensive, but not scrumptious) and some real bad ones(meatloaf that looked and smelled like cat food that I threw away after three bites). The portions are kinda small, but I guess that’s why there are so few calories. So, it is what it is. Find a few things you like and buy those for when the going gets tough.

I first came across snap kitchen a few years ago in Dallas. I really love the concept. They food quality is great. Healthy. Everything is detail labeled with ingredients and nutrition. Food comes in quaint, reusable containers. The food is hit or miss. Something for everyone, I guess. My absolute favorite is the spinach and goat cheese scramble. Good flavor. sauteed onions with egg whites, spinach, tomato, cheese and sweet potato hash. Love this. This location, I also tried the Grilled Kale Hoppin’ John. Its spanish rice, black beans, lentil, pumpkin seeds, kale, jaleapeno hummus and sweet potato. I wasn’t as much of a fan of this. The rice was bit crunchy still. And the hummus, well it has a nice, creamy texture, I didn’t taste any jalapeño. I wish this had a bit more of a kick to the overall flavor. Biggest complaint with this place is the price. Super pricy for pre-packaged meals. Healthy. but still pretty pricy. Guess quality comes with a price.

I got a $ 20 coupon to try out Snap Kitchen and decided to give it a whirl. Located next door to Pret, on its face, it seems a bit redundant — two grab and go packaged meal places. What differentiates Snap Kitchen from Pret is the type of items available. Instead of lots of sandwiches, salads and soups, Snap focuses on hearty one plate items like enchiladas, rice bowls, and the like. Most items are designed to be eaten hot; if you choose to dine in, there are microwaves available for use. It took me a while to cash in my coupon. I followed the menu online; I believe the menu rotates seasonally and as a pescatarian, there weren’t many items I was drawn to eating. When I did visit, I fully expected to stretch my coupon out over two visits. I opted for the medium portion of coconut shrimp. Overall, it was pretty good; definitely a nice break from the sandwich/salad monotony of Loop lunch choices. My only complaint about the dish is that the rice was on the firm side. While good, I’m not sure that I’d pay $ 11.50 for it again though. I ended up spending the rest of my coupon on the spicy basil lemonade at $ 7. It had a decent amount of heat to it; I wouldn’t recommend it to those sensitive to spice. Overall, it was fine, I wouldn’t say I loved the lemonade; I don’t see myself blowing $ 7 on it again. Compared to some of the other juice concoctions they have, it seemed to be priced on the high side for what it was. I’m not sure how often the menu turns over, but it seems like for at least the last month, it hasn’t changed. It isn’t cheap, for a carry out lunch, but it is good for one of the healthier options; I could see myself returning, but less frequently if the menu choices are so slow to vary.

I really enjoy Snap Kitchen! I pass it every morning on my walk to work, and it’s great to be able to stop inside on my way and pick up something if I forgot(or planned to «forget») my lunch. I especially like that their dishes are meant to be able to sit inside the fridge for a few hours until being heated up and devoured — which is not the case for any other restaurant. It seems expensive, but it really isn’t any more expensive than going to Protein Bar, Cosi, or Corner Bakery. One user exclaimed that her bill was expensive at $ 18, however she mentioned having a green juice — those are expensive($ 7 – 11) everywhere in the city! The staff is always pleasant and helpful as well. They have a variety of different dishes, all listed on their website. The best part is that most of them come in various sizes, so on super hungry days I can get a medium or large size entrée. All of the dishes have EVERY ingredient listed right on the package, which for someone with allergies(or just curious/health-conscious) this is perfect. The take-away containers are also my absolute favorite, and have replaced all the Gladware/Rubbermaid containers I used to have. Great concept executed very well!

I was hesitant to try it because it’s expensive. That said, I had the small naked chicken with cauliflower and snap peas and it was fantastic. At 220 calories, I was amazed that I actually felt somewhat full. It’s not a ton of food by any means, but definitely a balanced meal that is quick and delicious. Some additional side choices would be nice, but my guess is that by the time dinner rolls around, they start to run low on certain items. Yummy! I’ll be back.

Walked in. Shelves are pretty barren. I realize I have to use the restroom while I’m browsing. I’m snapped at that the restroom is NOT a public restroom. The second employee overrides the first employee saying I can use the restroom if I buy something. Well I was going to buy lunch, but there’s not much on the shelves, and the employees aren’t very nice. As I’m waiting for the restroom, the employees proceed to have a conversation about how they hate when customers use the restroom. I promptly left without buying anything or using the restroom.

Good idea and quality food but the price… Stopped in for a snack to check the place out and had snack size chicken strips(3 strips and a small cran apple sauce), a green juice and a small city blend bag of trail mix, the bill was almost 18 $!! While the chicken strips(about the size of one chicken breast cut into 3) and 2 bites of applesauce were good as well as the trail mix it was not even close to worth the price. This is a place I would go on a reg basis but unfortunately won’t be back due to the astronomical price compared to everything else in the area. I feel like if the full size meals which are on the small side were closer to 8 $ instead of 10.50 it would be a lot closer to their value. Maybe I’m missing something but I can’t see spending 18 $ for the equivalent of a snack. Really sad it’s this expensive. :(

This is a very unique concept. It looks like a grocery store inside, with refrigerated shelves lining the back wall, except that everything is fresh and local. Each meal is prepackaged and only needs to be microwaved. If you want to do it there, they supply about a dozen microwaves for you to use. Of course, the healthy concept means that the food is a little pricey for the amount you get.

Snap Kitchen is an outlet that serves heat-and-eat meals that are designed for the very health-conscious crowd. Walk into this place and you feel like you are in a big cooler, the better to keep all the food containers chilled and microwave-ready. The young staff is super-friendly and helpful, especially if you are a newbie and need to know that the colored boxes designate the size(small /medium /large) of each item. I recently had a pasta dish with butternut squash, bits of chicken, goat cheese, walnuts and garlic. It was reasonably tasty and undoubtedly healthy, though I almost imagined the varied ingredients would have worked better atop a salad rather than mingling with macaroni pasta. One of my colleagues tried a dish with bison meat in it, and liked it quite a bit. It ain’t cheap, but do you want cheap or healthy cuisine? As I continue to age semi-gracefully, I might have to try out more food items at Snap Kitchen, rather than at the golden arches or the like.

Thank you Snap Kitchen for making it out of Texas and entering the Chicago market! Snap Kitchen is a Celiac’s dream. Pretty much all of the items sold are gluten free and taste like real food. Their rice based pastas are some of best I’ve had in awhile. The concept is pretty simple. The food is sectioned out between dinner, lunch, breakfast, and snacks. The food is pre-portioned and offered in 3 sizes, small, medium, and large. There is a nice variety of meals. Each meal comes in a microwave container that lists how long you would need to heat your food if necessary. You can either take your meal to go, or use the handful of microwaves available and enjoy your meal at a handful of seats near the window. The prices are pretty fair considering the quality and quantity that you get. If you are looking for a safe, healthy, and tasty GF meal, then Snap Kitchen is one of the best options.

This is a really great concept, but a bit expensive. That’s to be expected when all the food is organic and gluten free and low fat and dairy free, etc. I had the chicken enchiladas for lunch and they were very good. I felt good after eating them and not like a blob as some oft her reviewer stated. I like having a healthy option in the loop for lunch and if I lived nearby I’d probably stop here often for dinner items and lunch meals for the week.

Amazing! I just started my clean eating journey and I have to say that this place(while a bit pricey) is certainly going to allow me to feel excited about this journey! 1) the food here is amazing! Often enough I find a ‘healthy’ eating place with bland food but this place is packed with wonderful flavor! 2) The customer service here is superb! Right when you walk in there are people here to help you with any dietary restrictions you may have! And they are casual, warm, and not too pushy which I love! 3) Ummm, the banana pancakes are AMAZING! Try them! Enjoy!

I’m not a fan of ‘healthy food’. I think it’s flavorless and odd tasting. That’s me. I tried the deviled eggs and I think someone wasn’t really trying. They’ve made a flavorless, meh product and then sprinkled cayenne pepper on it to make up for the wallpaper paste flavor and texture. If you ruin a deviled egg — especially in the summer — you’ve lost me. I won’t be back. Oh, and those eggs cost me $ 1 for each deviled egg(½ egg). If it was delicious I wouldn’t even mention that.

I’m so glad Snap opened across the street from my office. It beats the hell out of a $ 7 sandwich from Pret(sorry Pret) hands down. While Snaps meals may be on the pricey side they are quick and easy, without going crazy on calories… yeah I’m looking at you McDonalds. I’ve been looking for somewhere like this near where I work/live so I don’t have to trudge all the way to the north side to find healthy prepared meals that aren’t lean cuisine. First off I walk in the store and was immediately greeted by an employee who asked if it was my first time and when I said yes, explained everything for me as well as offering some helpful suggestions. My only beef was they didn’t have what I went in for, it’s only available in Austin, so I ended up getting the Bison Quinoa Hash and I have to say first impression was good. It had just the right amount of spice to it, the meat wasn’t overcooked and I found the small portion to be rather filling. My plan was to have it in addition to my salad but found myself feeling full by the time I finished. I’m definitely going back here, all the employees were friendly and quite helpful and instead of spending $ 9 on 1,500 calories of misery, you get a delicious 400 or less calorie meal and not feel like a blob the rest of the day.

So you know how when you’re trying to eat healthy but don’t feel like cooking BUTALSO don’t want to feel guilty about eating 1000+ calories at a restaurant? Well Snap Kitchen is the answer to that problem. I’m always looking for healthy food that actually tastes good and theirs actually does. While you may pay a few bucks more than you would at a typical fast food place, EVERYTHING is pre-portioned in 3 different sizes with ingredients and nutrition info on the package. I love the Chicken and Butternut Squash Macaroni and the Turkey Bolognese. And as a bonus every time I’ve gone in there(twice) they’ve given me extra meals to try. Thank you, Snap Kitchen, for helping me stick to my diet.

I was on my way to Whole foods to get some lunch on the go when I passed Snap, the concept looked healthy so I decided to skip whole foods and try something new. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by an employee who gave me a quick break down of the shop. * the meals are prepared and color coordinated based on calories They infuse use local ingredients into their meals and offer tons of clean-eating options. I grabbed a grass fed ground bison quinoa«hash». Absolutely delicious. A bit pricey, but, what non-gmo/local/grass-fed food isn’t? Plus, the convenience of it being made packaged, and calorie sorted… can’t beat that. I will definitely be back again, and again.

FINALLY!!! A PALEOFRIENDLYRESTAURANT! As someone who follows a very strict Paleo diet, dining out usually has limited options. It can be very frustrating when when I want to grab a meal and be assured that it is of the same, or better, quality I would make at home. I went for lunch with my husband literally the day I found out that Snap Kitchen existed and I am in LOVE. So many great options in all different sizes and for all meals plus snacks! The staff was really friendly and everything is coded so you know what you are in for(Caveman picture = Paleo). If you follow any sort of speciality diet you will be able to find ample selection here — they cater to gluten free, vegetarian, vegan, and Paleo, and all dishes have calorie counts in case that is something you look for as well. I tried the chicken chimichurri, my husband the lamb lasagna. We also couldn’t resist the grass fed beef sticks and the chia seed and date pudding. Everything was delicious and a really good quality. I thought the prices were very reasonable. High quality ingredients, especially grass fed animals, from local farms are more expensive than what you buy at Jewel or Mariano’s, and they not only taste better, but they are SO much better for you(do your research if you don’t believe me). Thank you Snap Kitchen for filling a void in every modern day caveman and cavewoman’s life! I will be back often.

I actually visited the Snap Kitchen in Lincoln Park(but I can’t find it on Unilocal). It was my first time and I was interested in checking it out because I don’t like cooking for myself. I live alone and cooking for 1 is aways a pain. The place is new, bright and very clean. When I walked in, I was the only person there. One of the employee’s greeted me right away and asked me if I had been there. I said no and she quickly walked me through the process. Then she gave me time to browse which I liked. They have it separated by breakfast lunch and dinner and small, medium and large. I grabbed three things, 1 large and 2 mediums(for lunch and dinner). Prices range from about $ 9-$ 15 from what I could tell. While that seems a little high for one meal, you have to realize you’re paying a premium for a cooked, pre-made meal that is using fresh ingredients. You would pay similar prices going out for dinner. You would pay less to make it yourself but that’s the point, connivence has a cost. I’ve had 2 of the meals so far. The lamb lasagna and the shirmp/marinara/pasta dish. Both I think are really good. You drop them in the microwave for a few minutes, easy as can be. The Lasagna was a «large» and it really was pretty big. The shrimp was medium and it also filled me up(and I’m a bigger guy). So it’s a great alternative to for a quick, healthy meal that you can store in the fridge for a few days and quickly heat up. Too expensive for every meal(especially the breakfast) but I’ll be happy to go back again and try more items. I hear they are coming to Wicker Park which would be great and I think it would do really well.

I’ve only been there once and it was completely to try it out but my first impression of Snap is that it’s a good idea but the execution needs some improvement. The idea here is that they offer prepackaged meals based on how many calories you’re looking to take in for that meal depending on portion size. They offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner, plus desserts and drinks. My opinion is that’s the meals are a little pricy for what you ultimately get, and the variety isn’t that wide in range. But, if you’re looking for healthier meals and portion control, well… Snap has you covered. They meals are a good blend of all food groups and they may even over gluten free options, I don’t know because I love gluten. Overall I’ll probably eat there more than I plan because it’s very close and it does over healthier options, but I won’t be happy about it. Pizza, now that makes me happy!

Austin, TX based Snap Kitchen has entered Chicago. The concept of ready to eat /take and go shines upon Snap Kitchen following Pret a Manger footsteps but pushes the envelope of healthy and much larger selection of choices. Snap Kitchen’s variety of choices made me take a moment to figure out what my first meal would be. Every main dish is divided from small, medium, or large to allow anyone to count the calorie ways with everything made in-house and fresh from local ingredients(though the lamb I had was sourced from TX) in reusable, recyclable, and microwavable containers. You must note that all hot meals must be microwaved as everything is stored cold. My first meal were the Grass-Fed Lamb Lasagna with Marinara Sauce and a side of their Curried Chicken Salad with Golden Raisins, Celery, Fat Free Greek Yogurt, and Toasted Almonds. The Lamb Lasagna was okay. It did not wow me despite being only 360 calories. Nothing special honestly. The Curried Chicken Salad was amazing however. The mix with the curry yogurt and textures from the chicken, raisins, and almonds were great. Honestly I could have had this as my lunch. Most of their fresh pressed drink options were not available since it was Day 1. This place is perfect for the Loop since it basically contains either fast food or casual dinning that will cost as much as eating at Wildfire but horrible food. Which brings us to the cost. Snap Kitchen is not your everyday lunch unless you are aiming for a certain diet. The cost for the Grass-Fed Lamb Lasagna and a side of their Curried Chicken Salad cost more than $ 16 with tax and I did not pick up a drink. I was also still hungry afterwards. The concept is great and their stand on organic and sustainability is awesome. I would love to try their other offerings like Bison Burger and Turkey Meatloaf. Hopefully their prices will come down just a little as I could go to Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s, pick up their refrigerated meals, and microwave those in the office. Plus I would have a lot more meal for $ 16. Food — 4 Décor — 5 Service — 4
