The beer comes in fun sizes(one of which is a boot glass) and the pretzels is to die for! I definitely recommend this bar.

If I was rating Prost on the GIANT pretzel alone, it would get 5 stars, hands down. But unfortunately that’s not always the case. My friends love Prost! It seems to consistently be our spot to watch football(aka soccer games). As I am not the worlds biggest beer drinker, it’s hard for me to get on board with a liter of beer, but I can say the half liters of the lightest beer on tap is just fine for me. But have you heard about the pretzel? Not only is it massive and can absolutely feed your whole table and probably their parents, the sauces make it extra spectacular. Whatever you do, ask for the beer cheese(I think it’s extra but SO worth it). The mustard too… ah don’t get me started. The reason I can’t give Prost a perfect 5 is because the service can be iffy at times. Granted it is typically busy for the games, but it does seem that they are understaffed! Don’t forget to use your 15% off the entire check when you check in!

I actually really, really like this place. The interior is a bit run-down(the walls could use a repainting and the big wooden tables are all chewed up on the corners), the paper menus are crinkly from having beer spilled on them, and the emphasis is clearly beer and not food, but goshdarn it, I love the food here. The pretzel is a can’t-miss. It’s enormous(I’d say four or five people could split a whole one as an appetizer) and doughy, with a yeasty, pancake-like flavor accentuated by a light salting. The beer cheese is a solid accompaniment even if it is essentially cream cheese with a little something added(though I admit it tastes better after you’ve downed a beer or two… see below), and the accompanying mustards are good, especially the grainy honey mustard. Like Prost in general, the pretzel doesn’t seem like it would be a delicacy, but I swear, I have dreams about it at night. The jäger schnitzel is also amazing. Nice and crispy, never sinewy, with spaetzle and a great salty gravy bursting with fresh thyme(a nice classy touch for this place!) and tomato. The beer list is pretty good. I like the fact that it’s mostly true to the German theme, with some semi-uncommon imports on the menu. I usually get a dunkel of some sort. You can get different beer sizes, depending on your appetite(and alcohol tolerance): .3L, .5L, 1L, and«the boot», which is some ungodly amount of beer and should be shared if you know what’s good for you.

Celebrating my birthday, I heard about this restaurant on T.V. so we decided to go. We started with a pretzel that was huge and so delicious. I don’t like beer but the awesome waiter suggested one that was wonderful. The meal was a shared meal that so good and plenty for seven. The cheesy spatzle was the very best. I felt like I was back in Germany. The potato pancakes were the best I have ever had. We will be back soon.

Prost is a great German beer bar that has a great selection. There are a couple of things that make Prost stand out above other bars in the area: 1.) They have amazing homemade pretzels the size of a small child accompanies with cheeses and mustards. 2.) They have beer boots(yes, like the ones in beer fest)

Ordered through GrubHub twice in the past week. First order, item was missing but food was pretty good so I thought I would try again. Ordered again last night. Fries were a cold and gelatinous glob of goo, the sandwich had the saddest tomato and lettuce ever seen and the Caesar Salad was just incredibly bad. Old lettuce, unripe tomatoes… its like if you cant do it right, please don’t offer it… what a waste of money. Bad food plus missing food items in 2 consecutive orders means I wont be ordering from them again.

Great place. GREATPRETZEL.(Best pretzel I’ve had in the USA.) Get it and Spaten Optimator. Seriously, brought back memories of when I lived in Austria & Germany. Sad to see no sauerkraut on the menu, but all else was good otherwise. If you’re traveling and love beer and German food, come here.

Prost is a beer bar. That being said if you love beer, this would be a place to check out! They have a HUGE menu of brews including IPAs, craft beers, etc. Our sever was very helpful and helped us pick a new IPA to try. The ambiance is basically a German sports bar. The seating style is picnic tables, which is interesting. I think this would be a great place to have a few beers and watch a game, if you’re into that kind of thing. We didn’t try the food, but I would be interested in trying it if I ever end up here for a game. Check this place out if you’re looking for an interesting beer to try!

Friendly staff, good beer on tap, great daily specials. Get the pretzel. Had the goulash once and it was a bit very salty but the meat was tender. Come hungry. Sadly it’s a packers bar but threat atleast means the cheese is good. Great for groups!

I came in with some pretty high expectations from what I was told by a friend. I was very happy coming here, the second I walked in and saw the large beer hall style tables that I was going to have a good day, and I did. I had a few liter beers with a full pretzel that myself and three others split. The pretzel is a must get(and the beer cheese too). Overall the staff is very knowledgable on the German beer and pretty response to requests. Only reason this isnt a five star review for me is that the manager asked us not to play any beer/drinking games(we wanted to play a low key game of quarters) which was the reason for going to the german beer hall in the first place, while I saw other tables playing other games without any comment from the manager. Beyond that the place is great and will probably be back soon.

I came with a friend who talked highly of this place and as someone who hasn’t tried much German food, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was stoked that our appetizers were unexpectedly so delicious! I’m not even a fan of pretzels but I found a new love for them tonight too. Our server was a chill guy who was personable and we had a nice conversation with him as it was a slow night. I’ll be back soon!

I really didn’t enjoy much about this place. Our service was absolutely terrible. The server never checked in and we were left with empty glasses throughout most of our experience. When we did try to order from the bar, we were quickly scolded and reminded to order through our(absent) server. They did not split checks either, which can be a huge hassle if you are dining with a large group. The beer selection is average, nothing extraordinary. Food-wise, my Caprese salad was inedible. I could not determine if it was the mozzarella, the basil or the tomato(or potentially all of it), but neither my boyfriend or I could eat this. We also split the pretzel with our table. Which is served warm with some tasty mustard and was really good. I also loved the Fried Pierogis appetizer. I would recommend sticking to the pierogi and pretzel. But all in all, there was more disappointing features than good/memorable features for me to recommend

Prost is a pretty decent place to go to hang out with friends. They have a variety of beers, which is nice. Also, they have daily specials. When I was there this past Thursday, they had house beers for $ 5 for a 0.5L. Food is good here too. The pretzel is gigantic — enough to feed 4 people or one hungry person. The potato pancakes were very good too. It comes with apple butter and sour cream. It tasted like a dense hash brown patty. They have picnic table seating. The only down side of those is that it is impossible to get out of your seat lol.

You must get the boot and the pretzel. I promise, you will regret the boot, but it will help you wash down that delicious pretzel. It’s family style seating, very casual and just a hell of a good time. The crowd is a mix of people and once you get going on that boot, you’ll be socializing with everyone from Princess Barbie to John Wayne. I had a blast, well what I remember of it :) and will be back for more pretzel, sans the boot!

Sunday special: $ 10 for half liter of house beer and half a HUMUNGOUS pretzel!!! Friend was still hungry so we got pierogi and a jagerschnitzel. Everything was delicious. They even had an amazing grapefruit wheat beer. Strong grapefruit flavor made it almost seem like a radler. Had a great time and great food.

After travelling all across the northern part of Chicago to eat at a hardy German restaurant that wasn’t out of Octoberfest beer, whose full kitchen wasn’t closed or who didn’t even have goulash we ended up at Prost. My fiancé and I were absolutely starving for some good, authentic German food and had figured this would be the closest we’d get to it that night. Although Prost wasn’t our first pick it wasn’t terribly unsatisfying. Upon entering the restaurant on a Tuesday night we found that it was mostly empty with the exception of a few parties scattered here and there. As is expected, Tuesday is not the best night to go if you’re looking for an enthusiastic crowd, but if you do like pub trivia then it’s your lucky day on Tuesdays! When we arrived our waiter informed us that pub trivia would be happening shortly so we were able to enjoy our food while playing trivia… which was actually a bit difficult since we were trying to shove food in our mouths while completing the trivia in the short time span allotted. Speaking of food — by far the best thing we ate was the pretzel with beer cheese! We only ordered half a pretzel(which was really big) but had we ordered a full pretzel it would have probably been enough to be our dinner. Honestly, I wish we would have ordered a full pretzel because it was the best part of our meal and I think it’s what they’re acclaimed for. The pretzel was über fluffy and the beer cheese was totally awesome… it’s an additional cost for the beer cheese but absolutely worth it. Besides the pretzel we also got pierogis which were not authentic — although somewhat tastey they were made as if they were rangoons with a crispy texture on the outside. For the entrée we got the goulash plate and yet there wasn’t much goulash, the spaetzle was super salty, and the potato pancakes’ texture was awry. Now with that being said, it tasted good but it wasn’t authentic which was a disappointment. Ultimately, I’d go for the pretzel, stay for the beer(especially when they have Oktoberfest) and have some fun at pub trivia. If you want authentic German entrees, however, I’d go elsewhere. P. s. if you’re driving there and have to park near the curb be careful because the curbs are very high. My fiancé opened the car door and scraped the bottom of it which almost led him to have a heart attack… so again, be aware of that.

I am shocked to see how low the rating is for Prost on Unilocal; I absolutely love this place! This is one of my friend’s and I’s favorite bars and places to hang out in Chicago. Long wooden tables with room for all of your friends, giant delicious pretzels that come with beer cheese and mustard and great German beer that you can order by the stein(or DASBOOT). There always seem to be tables available when my friends and I come which is really nice so we can all sit down. They play a lot of Top 40 hits but they’ll dig back into the 1990’s and 2000’s for songs as well. They play the music videos on all of the TVs which is a fun way to pass the time if your friends are boring.(Mine aren’t of course) I’ve never had an actual meal here, so I can’t attest to how good the entrees are. I would recommend the Warsteiner Dunkel if you like dark beer. I order a liter of that every time I come without fail. SOGOOD! If you’re expecting to find Berlin or Munich trapped inside a Chicago bar than your expectations are probably waaaaay too high coming in. Big steins of German beer, giant pretzels and plenty of room for all of your friends. What’s not to like?

Fake German everything. Big, greasy nasty-tasting pretzel with spicy Velveeta(as others noted). More like a bar in a college town than an actual, ethnic restaurant(then again, Lincoln Park is where undergrad never ends…). Lots of hip hop hits from the early 2000’s being blasted while you try to decide which mediocre, overpriced beer you want to drink. Lots of communal seats. Broseph in his pink shorts will probably not want to sit next to you, and servers come once every 50 minutes, so don’t worry about anyone being friendly here.

Pissed. Rude, completely incompetent server who couldn’t understand anything going on working the tables on 6÷19÷2015 charged our cards twice«on accident» and said the charge would drop off. It never did. Will not be returning!
