I love love love their ajiaco! Colombian soup, it’s a shame they only make It once a week. The chicken seems to be hit or miss, I’ve had it nice juicy and tender and I’ve also had it dry. Their empanadas are the best I’ve had in quite sometime, they are a must.

I first came to Piko Rico a week after they opened. I was so excited to see this place open right on my neighborhood but disappointed once i went. The food was ok and the service was horrible. Nonetheless i waited to go back again to write this review. I went back this weekend after a year and the food was better but the service was lacking. The waitress was nice but not attentive. A couple of times she was on the phone on what sounded like a personal call while she waited on a customer and while i was trying to get her attention to ask for more sauce for my steak. We ordered popusas and they were out so then we ordered one of each empanadas and they only had meat. Fine… it was early afternoon on a Sunday but fine… we get out empanadas which were ok but no silverware, no napkins and no water after i asked for it twice. I finally got the attention of another guy helping and he brought us silverware. The food was good but they clearly need better waitstaff. Id go again because its close to my house and the good was good i just hope they train their waitstaff and they have popusas next time.

Perfect, absolutely perfect. Unlike any rotisserie chicken I’ve ever had. Fresh, juicy, smoky flavor, DELICIOUS. Boyfriend had the steak and chicken combo and wow! How do you make grilled chicken breast so delicious? All the sides were excellent as well and the fried pork skins were top notch. Friendly service, wonderful atmosphere if you like local places. Want to come here every day :)

my boyfriend and I live right around the corner from this little gem. he is colombian and had known about this spot for a while. we finally came for the first time at the end of last year and have made multiple bike rides over since! it’s very cozy and located right in North ave. parking is a breeze too. I’ve had the matrimonio and the emanadas. both the chicken and meat empandas are very flavorful but I favor the chicken just from personal preference. I really love the chicken in the matrimonio, again personal preference, & my boyfriend favors the steak! either one is brought to another level with the chimmichurri sauce. ohhh myy gaawwdd! seriously beyond mouth watering. so much so that we always order 3 extra! the yuca and platanos are a lovely little touch on the side. the service is quick and the girls are so sweet! very reasonably priced for the portions. I wish I had a picture of my food but I can never wait once it is brought to me so enjoy the front cover of the menu and check it out for yourself!

I loved this place! Very cute little place, our waitress was super friendly. My boyfriend and I both had the matrimonio(steak & chicken dish) it was accompanied by fried yuca, potatoes and plantains.

We’ve been back many times since our first visit to PikoRiko, and each time we’ve been impressed. Although the rotisserie chicken is still my favorite entrée, we’ve since branched out to other items on the menu. Everything has been very good, with one exception: the steak is typically chewy and overcooked. Totally forgivable given how good everything else has been. I especially like the fish dishes, which are prepared using the whole fish. It takes a little more effort to eat than your usual fillet, but it’s worth it. From the arepa to the fruit juices, you can’t go wrong. The servers are very friendly, and always recognize us when we come in and greet us with a smile. They aren’t always as attentive as you’d like, but you never feel neglected. The prices are crazy low. I almost feel guilty paying the bill; I hope they aren’t pricing themselves out of a profit. All in all, a real find!

A friend introduced me to this place when he ordered their rotisserie chicken with rice/beans for pickup. It reminds me of some of the local Latin restaurants in uptown Manhattan. The food was very good. Hearty and economical! This mom and pop place will be a quick fix staple for me.

such a cute and yummy lunch. stopped in the other day with my boyfriend, who had heard good things about pikoriko. it was about half-full in the seating area and plenty of people waiting for takeout – both good signs, IMHO. we were greeted quickly and seated. more than anything i think what stuck out was how attentive the service was. we were checked on multiple times to make sure things were good – not in an irritating way, but in a way that you could tell they actually cared if something was off. even the cook came out from behind the counter to make sure we knew what to do with the chimmichuri. so cute. the food was fantastic – simple and well executed. i had the pollo a la plancha. the chicken breast was tender and well seasoned, and those plantains – i’ve had a lot in life, but those were perfectly crispy and not at all greasy. i’d go back again, for sure. one of the servers who checked on us mentioned that they do a whole fish on the grill – tilapia, red snapper, catfish. that sounds fantastic, and never would have noticed it unless she said something. can’t wait to go back!

One of the better Latin American restaurants in Chicago. Although a Columbian restaurant, it does what Mexican cuisine should be offering in Downtown Chicago or on north Clark St. The flavors are indeed a time machine through the past and present of a grandmother’s kitchen.

I’ve been here several times, and the food is awesome. The place is cozy, the staff friendly, and the food is cheap as hell. The only problem is the place is not well ventilated and can get a little smokey.

¼ chicken, rice and beans and salad, for $ 5??? and the chicken is DEELICIOUS — seasoned perfectly, super tender on the inside. A wonderful addition to Humboldt Park — makes it hard to stay in on those nights when I just don’t want to cook… can’t wait to try their empanadas, steak, and freshly squeezed juices next!

The first time I came here there was a language barrier between me and the waitstaff, so our order was not what I had expected. Now they have menus with English translations(which helps alot!) and their roasted chicken is pretty darn tasty. Their prices are very affordable. The best items on their menu is their empanadas– which are heavenly! We like to get the whole chicken roasted with potato and plantain. We get a ton of food for only $ 11, and it feeds 2 people with enough to take home too!

Had take out from here per recommendation from my mom and she warned me about the over cooked, chewy steak. After asking for it to be cooked medium. I watched the cook prepare the steak in front of me. I watched as he left the steak on each side for too long and squeezed all the juices out it. I told him that he over cooked it and assured me it would be good. It was not! The rice and beans were mediocre at best and the sweet plantain was ok. The empanada was the highlight of the meal. Next time I know to go to «Brasa Roja» next time I want affordable Colombian food.
