Most people walk into a sushi restaurant based on reviews. My experience here was solely based on Unilocal reviews, and that was my mistake. Trying something like new types of sushi is fun, but you must be careful of where you are and the quality of the ingredients, as well as the employees and their ability to follow health codes. It looked clean in the restaurant dining area, however the fish was displayed in a glass case around the counter top. This almost made me lose my appetite. Also, if you google some of the ingredients, you often don’t realize that most of quesyionable items are listed as «poor mans caviar» The service was great. The drinks were tasty. The sushi was alright.

Great sushi at an excellent price and a nice atmosphere. We had dinner here on Saturday night. We had no wait for a Saturday evening and were greeted promptly by our server. We ordered 3 rolls, salad, and sashimi along with drinks. Our waitress even brought us samples of sake to help us decide which bottle to order. We found all of the rolls to be very good and our dinner was reasonably priced. We will definitely be back.

Oysy does good sushi with fresh fish and good rolls. I’ve dined here several times and have always left leaving satisfied. My most recent visit to Oysy I ordered a few nigiri, a handroll along with a shooter(they ran out of uni so substituted it with squid and scallop). Yum. Service is good and my water glass is always topped up. Only issue is that it’s a little pricey. My recent lunch set me back $ 41(includes tip).

Still waiting after 90min. The sushi is good when it arrives. We were eating with another couple and all 5 plates arrived at separate times. Wish we would have went with our first choice. I’ll stick to sushi from somewhere else next time Come on man!

River North Sushi does it again! After a lovely evening at the ballet, I decided to join my classy lady friends for some tuna tartar and caviar, sake and delicious sushi rolls. Needless to say, we weren’t disappointed. For starters, we began with the tuna tartar. It was tastefully presented in something resembling a martini glass and garnished with caviar. The overall appearance definitely complimented the flavor and kept us asking for more. Instead of spoiling our appetites, we decided to try other dishes the restaurant had to offer. If the first course was any indication of what was to be expected, we were in for a real treat. After trying the shrimp tempura and agedashi tofu, we were full, satisfied and very, very happy. However, we still had to make room for our upcoming sushi rolls. Most deep fried sushi rolls are lackluster and taste of nothing more than oil and cream cheese. Not these rolls, no sir. We thoroughly enjoyed the California Sunset, Chicago Crazy and the Miami rolls. Although they were breaded, the ingredients complimented each other to the extent we didn’t mind the added crunch. One day, if you find yourself with some leftover Mag Mile cash money or on a nice date, I recommend you pay this place a visit. You’ll be glad you did.

This stylish and spacious restaurant on Grand can get very busy, so the best place to eat during the summer is on the sidewalk. The menu is extensive, with many rolls, some cooked dishes, and all the sashimi and sushi selections you can imagine. Beer selections are limited, but there are some nice wines and quite a few sakes. We liked everything we had, so much that we couldn’t pick a favorite. We tried: Tuna«tartare.» Not a tartare at all, but cubes of tuna mixed with a spicy remoulade and served with lettuce leaves. This was absolutely stellar. An assortment of sashimi: snapper, hamachi, salmon, and eel sushi. The eel was the best I’ve had. White Dragon roll — white tuna, shrimp tempura, yellow tobiko, cucumber, avocado. A very attractive roll, and the white tuna was excellent. California Sunset roll — imitation crab, avocado, mayo and cucumber, seared salmon, topped with a shiso leaf and ikura, miso dressing. This roll was best eaten disassembled. Emerald roll — lightly sautéed scallop, asparagus, cucumber, green caviar, and spicy sauce. The asparagus provided a nice crunch. Summer roll — Tuna, masago, red snapper, cilantro, avocado, green pepper, chili oil, spicy sauce, lime juice. This one probably had the best overall combination of flavors, which united to be more than the individual components. So far this is the best sushi place I’ve found in downtown Chicago, and I am including the high end names in that comparison. Service was prompt and friendly.

Oysy looked very cute from the outside. We were looking for something simple and light. Here’s the breakdown: the good: — cute setup — nice simple menu — prices are reasonable — lunch specials are value add– you get a bento box with California roll, spicy tuna roll, salad, miso soup and edamame and whatever main dish u choose. — food is ok. I had the grilled super white tuna. Was fresh but a little too sweet with a gloss that was too thickly laid on. It tainted that natural flavor and freshness of the fish. The bad: — my partner had veggie rolls and tempura. Definitely not the best tempura I’ve had. Not light and melt in your mouth batter. Was thick and tasted heavily deep fried. Didn’t taste terrible just not the authentic Japanese food that im used to from other great spots we frequent. Overall– if u want a quick for a good value go for it– just know this is not the«Morton’s» or 5star version of Japanese. It’s more like a chucks steakhouse — decent, well priced and will satisfy.

Surprisingly high quality sushi. Its quality is that good that you really notice it in the pop of the Ikura on the roof of your mouth to the cuts of eel and how the texture is meaty and smooth, to the feel and taste of the quail eggs. They were a little heavy on the eel sauce. The waitress didn’t know how to prepare a nigori sake, but she was pleasant and happy to learn how to serve it properly. Although the wasabi is a paste, it was pleasantly strong. The ginger is clealry colored, but has a pleasant sweetness and texture; good enough for cleansing the palate. The soy sauce dish is awkward in that it has a small diameter and is deep. Not great for dipping anything but hand cut rolls. Very good choice for sushi overall.

Brilliant cut of all the goodness, so fresh and delicious, Salmon, Yellow tail, tuna, Octopus, you name it. The service is excellent, Great presentation for all dishes they serve. The price is so reasonable. Great portion of food. I had sashimi platter, Tuna tartare and Mixed tempura and It was HEAVEN.

I came here the other night with my boyfriend after we had passed it a few times in the past. Okay, basically, there were some huge red flags, but the pricing seemed reasonable, so we figured we’d give it a shot. The first big red flag that I noticed? Cilantro. Any«Japanese» restaurant that serves cilantro most definitely cannot classify itself as «Japanese». Also, they charge for miso soup and rice. WHAT?! Who does that?! These are standard items that come with meals, not add ons so you can up-charge me. Another thing that I didn’t realize until after I had left, but had been blaring in my face the entire time is the name. «Oysy» is not Japanese and cannot be written in Japanese. I’m pretty sure they meant to spell«Oiishi», which means yummy/delicious in Japanese, but somehow ended up with Oysy, which is literally not a Japanese word. They also have«Izagaya» written on the outside of the restaurant, which is also NOT a Japanese word(Izakaya, on the other hand, is a word). If you’re still okay with coming to a «Japanese» restaurant that spelled its own name wrong, okay, continue reading this review. My boyfriend and I ordered the seared tuna, steamed rice, the Black Pearl, and the sashimi combo plate. Wow. the seared tuna was covered in, wait for it, CILANTRO. Ughhhhh! Stop doing this people! Japanese food does not use CILANTRO. I am Japanese! I should know! Not only did it have cilantro, it had some weird sauce that was reminiscent of some kind of Thai soup mixed with soy sauce. It was strange and extremely overpriced. It was $ 12 for a teeny tiny piece and was not even good! The combo plate was alright. Some of the pieces were stringy and you could tell some of it, like the octopus, was frozen. The Black Pearl was all rice and not formed well. The steamed rice cost $ 2. Enough said. If you want to pay for overpriced, Thai food(YES, I WROTETHAI), then please come here and enjoy.

I have been to the location on M! ch!g@n but I think that is closed now. I came here on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn’t busy at all. The set up is very similar to other locations. Dimly lit, tables for two and booths. Oysy is a Japanese sushi restaurant with some entrees. It is not too fancy but isn’t really casual. Their entrees run a little small so I would recommend getting sides to go with them. The sushi selection is plentiful and affordable. Oysy is a great mid-range choice for a impromptu nice dinner.

Two of us arrived shortly before they were closing. We ordered edamame, miso soup, lots of salmon sashimi, and the dragon roll. There were several dragon rolls to choose from and we asked our server to explain the differences. We chose the most elaborate with the most variety of fish. Everything was good. They did give us a last call for food order before they closed the kitchen. We chose this restaurant due to its location near the Conrad and on recommendations by a local and our bartender. We were not disappointed and I would return here again when in Chicago and the area. I loved that it was an easy walk from my hotel. The salmon was really fresh.

I’d probably give Oysy 3.5 stars if I could. The atmosphere is pretty — until you look closely. The ceiling panels are dusty, we had fruit flies buzzing us and the bathrooms were pretty grimy. If I’m going to eat raw fish at a place, I want to see it sparkle. That aside, my food was good. I ordered the Ruby and Red Dragon rolls and both were fresh and tasty. I’d echo another reviewer who thought the rolls were too loose — they had a tendency to fall apart. On the plus side, presentation was nice — they made a cute dragon out of my Red Dragon roll(see pic). Hubs had a Godzilla roll which looked like they managed up get every kind of fish at the sushi bar in there — he said it was pretty good. Service was«ok» — our waiter wasn’t around much despite there being just a few tables in the place. I saw several reviewers mention great lunch specials but we never saw them perhaps because it was a weekend? Overall, Oysy was«pretty good».

We came here for their lunch special which is an amazing deal for the amount of food you get. We ordered 3 different lunch specials which do not come with rice. A bowl of rice is an extra $ 2. If you want extra teriyaki sauce with your meal, it’s an extra $ 1. Service was difficult sometimes. Granted, it was one of the first beautiful weather days in Chicago so it was a bit busy inside. The service teetered from pushing out all the food, but absent when we needed water, sauces, etc. If only the other Oysy location had this lunch deal, I would go to that one instead.
