Project: Remodel small galley kitchen, some drywalling, and paint 2 rooms plus ceiling. Pros: 1. Did a decent job installing cabinets. 2. Installed a couple kitchen organizers for free. 3. Installed a couple extra can lights and just charged for materials. Cons: 1. Very messy and careless. Got paint and drywall mud on furniture, floors, trim and did not bother to clean it up. The paint will not come of the floor tiles so now we have to get new floors sooner than we can afford. 2. Poor and messy tile work. Grout all over tiles which was never cleaned up. 3. Wall/ceiling patching could have been better. 4. Attitude started of very friendly but as project went on he became very bitter, complained a lot, was fairly rude when sharing opinions that no one asked for. 5. Scheduling: Most of the time showed up around 10am and left before 5pm. So he did not get much work done during that short time. 6. No shows, lack of communication. His behavior, attitude made it obvious he did not want to be working on the project. He hardly came unless we called him and asked what was going on.(I guess I kinda understand, because he was commuting from Chicago to Carol Stream. But he could have said no to the additional work or at least been more professional about the situation). 7. Underbid a paint job and was very angry about and it shows in his work. Put one coat of paint up after priming and denied seeing any obvious large light spots. Even after I pointed them out(I wasn’t being picky, just pointed out the large obvious ones) he said he would take care of them then so he wouldn’t have to return but did nothing about it and collected payment. So I guess he just gave us a head start. We have to re-coat everything at least one or two more times again. Apparently, minor patching or filling nail holes was not part of the job. 8. Argued w/me(client) about paint brands! Constantly! Blamed his bad paint job on the paint! I wanted to use Benjamin Moore paint and he wanted Behr paint. That alone should tell you how great of a contractor he is. 9. AND to top it off, after the job was finally over he continued to argue w/me the next day on text message in caps lock! About something that had nothing to do w/him but instead w/the company that I hired to remodel my kitchen and he happen to be the independent contractor for, which is how we met. I think he was just trying to get more money out of us because he underbid the paint job. We would have tipped him more had he done good work. At least decent work. But you should see this paint job. It really is just a head start. Summary: He started of friendly. Slowed down as time went on, hardly came. Grew to be very bitter and then in end just did not care and wanted to be off the project asap. We had to deal w/him for 3 months when we were told it was just a 2 – 3 week project. So we would not use him again or refer him. He also claims he’s done work for Oprah Winfrey. Yeah, I’m sure.
