It most definitely is not closed, and now it’s even open until midnight! Okay, the door outside is constantly patrolled by spangers and questionable crackhead-esque characters, and inside it stocked-practically-to-the-ceiling and milling around chaos, but the prices on produce cannot be beat! Red potatoes for twenty-nine cents a pound? C’mon, that’s awesome! I also really love the butcher in the back who always speaks Spanish with me, even though I’m learning and slow and my vocabulary no es bueno. This is the kind of place you have to visit a few times before you really get it, but it’s definitely one of the gems of my beloved neighborhood! They don’t carry any pork products, but they do have locally made pan and some middle-Eastern condiments and spices. They also, for whatever reason, never carry dry cat food. Don’t let the change jingle in your pocket on the way out… trust me. ;)
