Omar Discount Center

OMAR Distributors is a wholesale supplier for many of the «dollar stores» in the Chicagoland area. They have a big warehouse on 47^th Street, and they also have this Discount Center, which is a retail location.
Seeing the enticing signs on the exterior of the building, went in there out of curiosity to see what Mr. Omar has in his bazaar.
It’s really big, and has two levels, you can go upstairs and see another floor full of different items. Most of the things on the first floor are the same as what they would distribute to their «dollar stores», and therefore many things cost $ 1. But they also have a variety of higher-​end end items. The upstairs has bedding, clothing, shoes, house wares, luggage, and a whole showroom floor of furniture.
The place is well-​organized, and the guys working there were polite and even said «hello» when I came in. If you look carefully among all of the miscellaneous things on the shelves, there are indeed some items that are:
— useful
— acceptable quality
— very good price
However, most of it is no different that what you can get in your local dollar store, and the prices of the higher-​end items that they do have are unremarkable. Nothing wrong with the place, but I couldn’t feel excited about it, either, and didn’t end up buying anything.
Maybe a fun place to browse for bargains if you are already in that area, but not as fun as I had hoped, and no real reason to go out of your way to see it.
