It’s a miniaturized version of the South Bend store with the same oversized prices. That being said they do have plenty of quality items, so if you are in need of a quick ND gift this is a great place to check out. 172⁄365

Mmm yes, the college years. In the gates of hell. Also known as charming South bend, Indiana. Where trips to wal mart late at night were considered fun. Where I had my first taste of Midwestern winters and how to drive in snow for the first time. Where my parents would deposit random amounts of money into my bank account(ooooo I like that one), where I took naps in between classes, where I’d buy 800 dollars worth of books and only get 75 dollars back at the end of the semester, where I would pump out a 20 page paper the night before it’s due, where tourists on game days would steal my parking spot when I returned to my apartment, I miss you notre dame! I really do– those sure were the days and south bend will always have a little soft spot in my heart even though it was such a rude awakening of small town living coming from beautiful Portland where we had these strange things called… sidewalks. GASP. THATBITCH. You can walk on these things! Its truly amazing. Oh and bike lanes? Huh? Where people on bikes have their own separate lanes! These west coast people even ride their bikes to work! Across bridges even. Fascinating. Yes, it was culture shock but when I want to go back in time to the 1980s or maybe early 90s, I can count on south bend. So that’s why when I have the time, I make the drive back to visit and to the bookstore on campus. They have a couple more sidewalks now. Recently I’ve had to replace my laynard and couldn’t make it back to south bend to purchase one. Online ordering is not an option… for me that is. Only because I like seeing these things in person and inspecting it, getting a good look at the selection. I also did some Christmas shopping here. This isn’t as great as the bookstore on campus because the selection is smaller which is fine, but it’ll do for a quick fix. I approve.

This is a very miniaturized version of what you’d find in South Bend, minus the gameday swarms of humanity. Clothing, ND-related books, knick knacks, etc. I was expecting Michigan Avenue markups for all items in the store, but nothing seemed more expensive than it would be in Indiana. Which isn’t to say that Hammes doesn’t mark up everything to begin with.
