I used to be a regular. Everyday«make your own salad, with 4 ingredients and protein»… Then the price went up a couple dollars, no biggie to me because ingredients are fresh, people are friendly, etc. i thought. But then the salmon size reduced to half! Half deck of cards type of thing. For $ 14/day I said«no way». To me, they got greedy.

I’ll start by saying that this place needs to open more locations OR Chicago needs to get more of this concept here. One of my biggest complaints upon moving to Chicago is there really are no good salad places. Mixed greens changed my mind. I ordered the build your own salad bar. They have literally every ingredient you could want. They even chop and toss it for you at the end. It was delicious and fast! It gets pretty busy in there during lunch which is no surprise but non the less I had a great experience here!

I went here on a rainy Saturday and I was the only customer. The place is pretty low key, and the neighborhood is pretty dead during the day on the weekends. So, being the only customer, I expected to have more interaction with the staff which is the only reason why I’m giving this place only 3 stars. This location has a potential to be a 5-star business because the salads are just that damn good. I told the person behind the counter that it was my 1st time there and asked for recommendations as a conversation starter, but the response I was given was borderline rude. On top of that, as I was about to leave, another customer entered and none of the staff members were around at all. He turned to me and asked if anyone was even working and we joked around saying that we should just make our own salads. It was obvious that the staff did not want to be at work and I don’t blame them– on a dead, rainy Saturday. However, coming from a background in sales and customer service myself, I understand the value of interacting with your customers especially when you’re having a slow day. Terrific salads though.

I went around 1 pm on a weekday and I was in and out in less than 5 minutes. The black n blue steakhouse salad hit the spot and there was a lot of meat!

Food is great… service is terrible, one they always have music to loud and can’t hear your delivery order and two they always give unrealistic times of delivery arriving. Both girls at cash register ask you to constantly repeat your order… this is the 7th or 8th this has occurred and our order was wrong again and she overcharged us. I hope management does something about this… Update: Management listened. Service is much better for delivery! Thanks

I order a salad from this place probably once a week from work. The salads always have very fresh ingredients and are very tasty. I do the build your own salad and try different ingredients from time to time and everything tastes great. The salads are a good size and my build your own comes to around $ 9 – 10 which is standard for this type of place. I also had an issue with delivery one time and I messaged the owner on Unilocal and he responded in 10 minutes. Overall, a great salad place with fresh ingredients.

Surprisingly enough, I went here to try their pizzas. I ordered the chicken pesto pizza. I wish I knew they put goat cheese on it since I hate goat cheese with a passion. Nonetheless, the pizza wasn’t bad so they made pretty decent food here. Gotta go back to try their salads. It looked fresh and tasty.

I use to LOVE Mixed Greens. I would go often and recommend to everyone. I have noticed it declining in quality and today, it was bad. The salads that I ordered are not super fresh, were smaller than ever(only filled half the bowl), and they have begun to up charge for everything. On top of that, the man who built the salads and the cashier were both not nice! Done here.

This place is the best. At first glance you’d think its a standard quick casual chain spot but look closer and these guys have actual chefs walking around the whole place. They are literally roasting and cutting fresh corn off the cob, baking bread, roasting meats for the panini’s etc. I love supporting neighborhood spots, and there’s a reason this place is absolutely packed every single day. Everything has always been super clean, fresh and the staff friendly as can be. A couple times they’ve messed up my order(don’t think everyone speaks the best English) but they are always so quick to apologize and make a new one. Prices are fair for the real cooking and great ingredients they use, and it’s just an overall nice place to be at lunch time. Keep it up MG

Great salads and pretty decent soup. The only reservation I have is, like other Unilocalers, I have found a hair in my salad before. I come here all the time and it’s not the end of the world to me, but if they get that sorted out I would have 0 complaints.

I love this place and really appreciate a place to get a fresh tasty salad to take home for dinner — one of their specialties or build your own — without the hassle and expense of a typical restaurant. The service is fast and friendly, and the variety of ingredients offer opportunities for unique build your own:-)

For what I paid(almost $ 10) you would think the size of the salad and the piece of salmon in it would be a bit bigger than what I got… unfortunately this place just doesn’t do it for me.

Hi there– Im sad to report that ive found hair in my food 3 times at Mixed Greens. Im really depressed and upset about it because despite all the deliciousness and freshness of their business, my entire staff(theres thirty of us) all witnessed it so we now call MIXEDGREENS the HAIRSALAD place. Ive called the manager three times to tell him how depressed we are because they do offer healthy lunches but all their meals come with a side of nasty hair. Their soup is also very good, the second time I went to pour it though, guess what… a stringy piece of hair was on the ladle. I called the cashier and showed her discretely because I wanted this place to work out. She had it removed right away. So my review is if you love fresh salads that are healthy, you will always leave with hair floss for after you are done. MIXEDGREENS fix this for us, PLEASE!

I like this place! It’s near home so I can swing by for lunch when I’m working from home. The make your own salad is great – great selection of toppings options, and they also have Kale and spinach for the salads which is not always the case at other joints. Line seems to move and staff is friendly. I’m sure we will be back!

My go-to lunch place during the week. Not sure what others have gripped about, but this place is fantastic. I always do the unlimited item salad with no protein and they are absolutely huge and the ingredients are fresh. They have a lot of different ingredients to choose from and tons of different salad dressing options, chopped or tossed, mixed in or on the side. Given that I do a make-it-yourself salad every time I go, only real requirement is good ingredients. For $ 10, you just can’t beat a healthy and delicious meal at this place. Have also tried a few of their sandwiches and they are also pretty good. Didn’t like the meatball, but all others have been good. Love this place!

No, this is not Alinea(worthy of 5 stars), but for what it is, this place does a great job of offering healthy and tasty salads, soups and pizza. I consider myself a bit of a health nut(or just nuts). So, I am ashamed to say that this place has eluded my good-food-radar since it opened here about four years ago. It’s only four blocks from my condo.
I had(do you really care?) a salad with bibb, romaine and kale. I chose the Unlimited toppings option($ 8.95) which includes one protein. On top was Black beans, Edamame, Corn, walnuts, raisins, tofu, avocado, crispy chicken, beets and mushrooms. Got the sesame dressing.(I am always envious of Unilocalers that remember every morsel they ate, and now I finally have a review of exactly what I ate, after over 100 reviews.

Mixed Greens is quite an interesting spot. It’s located in a pretty popular place but semi off the beaten path in River North. Despite it’s location in prime real estate, it was shockingly empty on a Saturday night. We were the only people in the place for an entire hour. This must be the norm because one employee stood in front of us to watch TV, not even realizing we were there despite our conversation and laughing, then seemed shocked to turn around and spot us. I had an amazingly awkward time dining at Mixed Greens due to the desolation and pumping top hit music. I ordered the ham & swiss panini which came on a huge bed of lettuce. Like plain lettuce. Tons and tons of plain lettuce. My dining companion got himself a salad so he ended up taking all my plain lettuce and mixing it into his salad. It may just be me but I don’t enjoy eating leaves sans anything. The ham & swiss panini was good but I’d never go out of my way to have it again. I’m not entirely sure it warranted the price tag. We left just before 8pm and they were cleaning up, putting chairs up, etc even though closing time isn’t until 9pm. My suggestion is they change their hours a la Saucy Porka and just cater to the lunch time working crowd. Clearly the weekends aren’t working out for Mixed Greens when it’s up against so many other downtown restaurants. However if you are looking for a healthy city option that is not at all busy, you will definitely find what you’re looking for in Mixed Greens.

Excellent salad and a bevy of choices for potato chips, but wow is it pricey! I tried the Caesar salad with salmon. Because I’m an absolute sucker for fish. With chips, the total came to $ 11.03. I guess since even McDonald’s sells their salads for $ 7-$ 8 after tax this is par for the course, but: seriously, food industry, what is the deal with the 300% markup? Anyways. The ingredients were super fresh and the salad was well balanced. I loved the olives and the strong cheese. Still really expensive for a salad. I did like the Caesar dressing. Good texture, big flavors. Pretty much all I ask for in a dressing. :-) The fish was about 3 ounces, more or less. It looked a bit dry but did have herbs on it, and wasn’t bland. Zapp’s chips are a must-have here, if only because they weigh in at a hefty 2 ounces and they have flavors I’ve never seen before. I had the voodoo, which was a fantastic salty sweet turmeric-coated potato chip. They also have spicy Cajun, which I’m willing to take a run on next time. It’s a good lunch option, and all things considered actually on the lesser end of lunch options in River North(where a sit-down burger will set you back $ 17 after tax and tip!) Still a lot of money for a salad.
