I want to give Marshall Hotel a higher rating than this. At 3am having my friend drive me from the suburbs of Chicago to the city, only to have my lodging situation flake out on me, i was in a pinch with no where to go. Marshall was $ 50 cheap, right around the corner from all the action, and i was dead tired. i took a gamble, booked the room without seeing it and headed up probably the oldest & freakiest elevator i’ve ever seen in my life. After a few rides it was pretty gangsta and so was the Marshall. Not the cleanest one bit and there was either a dude in the room across my hall who had terrible allergies or turrets, because every 4 minutes SH*T was heard in a sneeze like sound. it was mentally hilarious. Upsides are that the AC worked like a champ in the muggy summer night, the staff is really friendly, and the bathroom was clean. The downs, the sheets didnt seem too fresh, the carpets make you feel slightly sleezy, and i didnt feel too safe with the lock & key situation on the doors. Either way, next time i travel super cheap in the city, i’d go back, just a bit more prepared. Stay gangsta Marshall.

Stayed here last night. Didn’t see any bugs, and didn’t notice any bug bites in the morning so that’s a plus. The A/C worked well, and the bathroom was clean. 100 year old building with a very vintage elevator. Kind of charming(but old/worn out carpets) if you are into super old buildings like I am. $ 50 a night + $ 20 security deposit. The man at the front desk was considerate and helpful. Better than sleeping in your car or spending $ 200 for some hotel room if you just need a place to sleep downtown. (2015) bumped this up to four stars since it really is a great value for the money and location downtown; and I do like old buildings. Just do not put anything into the drawers, and keep your suit case zipped up.

I never saw the actual rooms, but i went into this hotel exetremely intoxicated and the staff was very polite about giving me regional advice and directions.
