Marietta’s Day Spa & Salon

I really wish Unilocal would have separate scores available for different aspects of the experience, like for «Service,» «Environment,» and «Value.» I bought a Groupon here for a foot reflexology and no chip pedicure. I’d say the actual service was probably 4.5 stars but the attitude they gave me was 2 stars at best. I know a lot of it is my fault for being inexperienced, but these ladies were really good at making me feel interrogated /​stupid instead of being helpful and supportive.
First I walked in and a lady who seems to be Marietta herself judging by the website picture «greeted» me. I don’t even think she said hi, just repeatedly ask if I have an appointment then demanded that I pull out my phone and mark it as redeemed on the spot. I explained that I don’t have the Groupon app installed but can do so at home. She just glared at me and said «some people use a Groupon twice.» Well I have used Groupons at several other places, and they have always just swiftly redeemed it for me without me even worrying about it. If you are so concerned about double redemption, why not have a system in place?
Then when my actual person came, she asked me if I brought flip flops. Oops. I forgot since I don’t do pedicures often and at the couple of other salons I have been to they just put me under the dryer for a while so my normal shoes have always been ok. Not here though. I got scolded a little bit and was told that fortunately they have some for sale (how convenient). I really wish they could have reminded me when confirming my appointment.
Soon a bigger problem arose. I wore skinny jeans that are really tight at the ankles. The lady exclaimed, «You can’t roll up? How are we supposed to do your foot reflexology?!» I’ve never gotten a foot reflexology before so I said that I thought it would just be on my foot… but nope. I got a disapproving look and was told that no, no, and no, my calves had to be all exposed. So it was a fun 10 — 15 minutes just trying to roll up my super tight jeans. I’m pretty sure they cut off most circulation to my lower legs and I’m glad they didn’t turn blue or purple during the session… Again, thanks for the dress code reminder.
The actual massage and pedicure was very good. She did a very good job removing calluses and the massage felt amazing. If only I didn’t feel like a wronged child at school the whole time I might have actually enjoyed it.

I saw Gina yesterday for a massage and no chip manicure. She gave one of the best massages I have ever received. She has experience and definitely knows what she’s doing. The no chip manicure was also perfectly done and I couldn’t be happier.

I come here for Anna. She’s so sweet. Her mani/pedi’s are great. I’ve also had a facial from her once and loved how glowing my skin was afterwards. I always look forward to seeing Anna. She loves her clients and it shows. I started coming here because of a Groupon deal. Great place!

I purchased a groupon, no-​chip mani/​ped, and had a great experience until I got home. I realized the no-​chip was too thick and was clumpy. I went back the next day to get it fixed and they realized it was still wet. The second time around it was a lot better but one of my nails was still too thick. I have had a number of no-​chip manicures all around the city and have never had this happen, not to mention twice! They do not have a very good selection of no-​chip colors. I am giving two stars because I would probably recommend the place for a pedicure or regular manicure just not a no-​chip!

Gina was great! She fit in me in at the last minute. And she gave me a great color recommendation. Even better than all of that my no chip manicure still looks nearly perfect 2 weeks later. The last no chip I had at another place looked horrible by the 2^nd week. I’m only deducting 1 star because I paid for the aromatherapy pedicure and don’t think that’s what I got. I guess part of its my fault I didn’t speak up either. I was so distracted thinking about work that by the time I realized it was too late. Will definitely return even without a Groupon. Despite it being Chicago — parking was easy and they validated it so I only paid $ 5.

Used a groupon here for a no chip mani/​regular pedi, and definitely liked my experience! Took Gina’s color recommendation (sexy red) for both my hands and feet.
The no-​chip polish (which I have never used before) is awesome! I usually chip my manicures by day 4, and I’m going on 8 days and they look great!
The salon is well-​kept and clean. No frills, but who needs that anyway.
Only docked one star because it wasn’t exactly the speediest service. I was there for a little more than an hour. Fine when I have the day free, but if I had had a busy or rushed day, I might have been annoyed.
Will definitely consider coming back for the stellar no chip manicure!

Gina is a great manicurist — didn’t get cut (as I did when I went to some place closer to where I live) and the polish lasted nearly 3 weeks. Sure, it does cost a bit more than some of the other places in the loop — however, I rather pay a few dollars more for a location that is clean, spacious, and where I don’t feel like I’m in a sardine can, along with other women packed into a tiny space. This Marietta’s spa location is just a block away from Union Station and easy to get in-​and-​out within a half-​hour. Worth every bit of the $ 18 for the level of service, hand massage, and just personable service. Gina’s like an aunt — honest, direct, and really efficient & knowledgeable of her trade. For its convenient location and service, I’ll be back.

I am not the person who writes reviews, but I want all you girls to enjoy what I just had too. I went in for a mani and pedi here. I tell you the lady ANNA (she is older than other girls there) is soooo amazing. She did such a perfect job with so much care, she gave me the best mani pedi of my life. she really knows wht she is doing, my feet were all black with soot from a little fire in my apartment n now they look so cute

Gina is the best! Always on time. Lasting manicures. Cleans cuticles like no other. Excellent waxing. I love this place!

The women on the receprion is so NOT nice!!! And I heard how she was talking about her client (a very old american woman) right after the old lady went away, and she (manager and, if I understood right, mani/​pedi/​massage therapist) was so MAD at her, she was saying something very-​very bad, she doesn’t respect her clients AT ALL!!!
I like the hair stylist — Irene, she is very professional and nice, sweet person. She does the best and fastest hair cuts. But it’s always so not clean in the salon, I want to wash my hands the second after I go away from it.
