Fantastic service! They know their inventory and are able to answer telephone inquiries quickly and accurately! Street parking. We needed to find buttons to replace a few on the husband’s dress overcoat. After much searching of the internet and various fabric stores we found Leo Adler. When I called to inquire, they were able to immediately tell me that they had the size, color, construction of the required button in stock. It was a drive, but we were able to go by and pick up the needed buttons(2 medium, 1 large) for his coat! We are very pleased. Give them a call or drop by and see if they can help you. They are very helpful. The front door is a bit difficult to find, due to lack of signage. Persist and you will win!

That I get to shop here sometimes is one of the joys of living in a city like Chicago. This is where you go when the sewing notions at Joann won’t cut it for you anymore. Shelves of zippers in lengths that are unavailable elsewhere. Zipper parts, too. Thimbles in every size, including large sizes to fit men. Parts for your Jiffy steamer or your gravity fed steam iron. Ribbing for the cuffs and waist of bomber jackets and parkas. Lining, oh, such linings. Interfacing. High quality muslin for less than you will pay at the chain fabric stores. Racks of thread on cones. Rolls of twill tape in various widths. Buttons. Snaps. Patternmaking tools(all the college fashion programs send their student here for that stuff). Waxed Silamide thread. Scissors. Specialty furrier items… and they’ve recently added a line of lovely dyed garment leather. They have a lot more than is on the website. And Steve, the owner, is a wealth of knowledge.

Wow, this place is great to have around if you need a zipper, and maybe other clothing related supplies. It’s an old school warehouse and in this internet Amazon age, is a definite one of a kind. I think Steve said they inventory 25000 zippers. Steve is what makes it a one-of-a-kind. He is a funny, helpful guy who has been there 52 years, and it was delight chatting with him about the company history and my coat zipper needs. My futile internet search, but ultimate word-of-mouth referral, for a good heavy gauge two-way YKK zipper(the best and Steve confirmed this) lead me to this gem of a business. They have a lot of fashion designer and fashion school clients, but will take in(but don’t really need) walk-in business like myself. Hope they stay around forever and it’s already been 108 years.

This place is a hidden gem in the Chicago sewing/designing community. If you need quality supplies, then you must check it out. It is the best place in the city to buy interfacing(all at 60″ and super inexpensive), shirting material(you order from a sample catalog), zippers, pins and needles and I think it is the only place left that still sells furrier supplies. Yes, there are no prices on anything, but just politely ask Steve, he’ll be happy to tell you the price and answer all of questions. From every trip there, I always walk satisfied and usually slightly more educated. I highly recommend Leonard Adler & Co.
