I got my hair cut and colored by Anthony, and I have to admit that he did a great job. I haven’t found a great stylist in this city till now. Thank you Anthony. See you next month.

Rosie’s the best! She’s been my stylist for years and I can’t imagine going to anyone else. My hair was very damaged when I first started going to her and she repaired it in just a few visits. She does an excellent job recommending new styles, colors and treatments. I just sit in her chair and let the magic happen. If you want a wonderful, skilled stylist that can work on all types of hair, you must go to Kiva and ask for Rosie. My husband and daughter are now her customers and they too are very happy with her services.

I had a facial done here and was very disappointed. I would like to preface this by saying that the lady was a very nice, old lady, but not great. Her appointment before me was running late so she asked if I would wait in another room(even though I was in the nice waiting room of the spa — also she never offered me water). it was basically a broom closet with a bed and a robe — she asked me if I wanted the door opened or closed — ummm I’m changing — I’ll close it. It was also very cold in there. Her appt was still late so she came in again and wanted to look at my skin. we were standing face to face and she was holding my arms just staring at my head. it was so weird. she also kept calling my acne«mushrooms» which made me feel awful. when we finally did get in to the room it was even more cold that I could imagine. there was a space heater in the corner, but it did nothing. during the facial she kept trying to sell me on things and products, reminding me that she did waxing, makeup, and all sorts of other things. She never.stopped.talking. I could not relax. she threw in a free eyebrow wax which was great and talked me in to doing a small peel even when I told her I had sensitive skin she said I would be fine. I was not. I was on the verge on tears with the burning sensation. she wiped it off and said«oh well now I know you’re sensitive» — pretty sure I told you that. then she continually talked to me and rubbed FREEZING cold lotion and goops all over my face and neck. at the end she tried to sell me more products and when I went to pay she tried to show me where I could buy items. I told her I was in a rush to get out(bc my appt was so delayed from her previous client). she then stood there and watched me pay and waited for me to put the tip on. it was just really uncomfortable. I will never go back nor recommend this to anyone.

DISASTEROUS, HORRIBLE, UNBELIEVABLYBAD! Don’t go there. I made the mistake of not checking out this nail and beauty bar at Macy’s before I gave them my business. I had had a gel manicure elsewhere a week ago and needed it removed. What first strikes you about this place is how dumpy, disorganized and vaguely dirty it is, or maybe let’s say really dirty. The nail tech, who was a nice person brought out a big bowl of acetone for me to soar my nails in. I was horrified, after about 10 minutes of soaking, with no movement with the polish, I advised her that it would be better to wrap each individual nail, which she did. Then she went off to take care of a similar issue with another customer, and was switching back and forth between the two of us. Eventually this customer took a hike as she had to get back to work. Time ticked on, she did her best to get the stuff off my nails! Then she started to file them. Unfortunately the edge of the file was cutting my skin as she moved it back and forth. I had asked her to cut my nails initially, but she said she didn’t want to. Another customer showed up and that tech wanted to put my purse on the dirty floor to make room on the chair next to me. There is no place to hang or place a purse. That tech got a call from«upstairs» and the message was that they wanted to talk to her immediately and leave her customer sitting there. She said no, so good for her. I never did get a massage, the cutting of the cuticles and hangnails was another disaster, after over an hour, I said I had had enough. The techs were complaining that they couldn’t find any of their implements and went from drawer to drawer searching while the customer waited. Why wouldn’t they sort that out and have them ready by the time their customer shows up? This was the single most awful«manicure» I have ever received, by a group to disorganized people, in a horrible setting. I paid $ 30 for the privilege.

Rosie saved my life! A previous hairstylist had completely damaged my hair. Cut, dye… you name it… they messed it up. Then my friend introduced me to Rosie and she worked magic! I’m super critical and skeptic about hair dressers and she’s won me over! She’s professional and so nice and however you want your hair done, she executes! She’s worth every penny! They only bad thing… I don’t live in Chicago! Ugh… but I def will be coming back to see her when I’m out here! Until then… ladies, go see her!

I came here for Spa Week 2014. I booked a facial about a week and a half out, and came in yesterday for my appointment. The front desk area is pleasant and sleekly modern, but the waiting area and treatment rooms could really use a refresh. I wanted a heating pad or some warming element for the table where I was getting my facial, but was told by the facialist that she doesn’t keep one because the room gets warm. Au contraire. The facial itself was ok enough, but I probably would have felt gypped if I had purchased it at the regular(non-spa-week) rate. The wake up call came when I was told there wouldn’t be any extractions. This was followed up by the facialist telling me that my pores were large. In my book, large pores=extractions. My skin did feel softer, but I still wasn’t at ease knowing that I was walking out with pores large enough to drive a truck through, and that no extractions were performed to get out the impurities. I ended up going to Sephora to buy a tightening mask, as well as a pore refining product, as none of the products that Kiva was peddling really appealed to me. It is likely this will be my one and only visit, seeing as how there are so many great salons/spas in the city.

I had scheduled an 11:30 am appointment on Sunday. I got there on time, checked in and they told me to take a seat. At noon, I returned to the desk and asked when I would be seen to get my hair straightened. They looked surprised and couldn’t imagine why I wasn’t being seen. Apparently the hair stylist was gone or they forgot about me. They wanted to give me to someone else but I refused. I left angry and was trying to write a review on their website but couldn’t get thru. I was going to be paying over $ 300.00 for a processing and I was very disappointed in their customer service. Prices are high and customer service is low. Really bad combination.

I came here for a face with Bianca & I have to say that it was one of the best facials I’ve had. I highly recommend it! She is super sweet person & once in the room, she asked about what concerns I had about my skin & then proceeded with a very relaxing facial. She gave a great little massage during it & addressed every skin issue I had. She also gave me a sample of a facial serum to try & I actually ended up buying the serum a few days later. I definitely plan on coming back her for my next facial & urge anyone on the fence to give her a try.

Tristan cut my hair shortly before I went on a girls’ weekend with friends from college. I have known these women for quite some time. Okay, half my life. The first thing one of them said to me when I got off the plane was«This is the BEST haircut you have EVER had. It looks full, it looks healthy, it’s very flattering.» She wouldn’t stop talking about it. This is someone who has known me through many styles and many stylists. Now she wants Tristan to cut her hair, but unlike you dear reader, she doesn’t live in Chicago… so, go see Tristan for the best haircut of your life!

I couldn’t find a fb page for Kiva at Macy’s on State Street, but I wanted to make sure word got out that Tusk and Rhoda at at the State Street location went completely above and beyond for me this evening. I got a brow wax at another salon a day ago and overnight«broke out» around my brows. I panicked because I am attending a wedding tomorrow night. I stopped into Kiva and asked if there was anything that could be done. Tusk promptly addressed my concerns and brought out Rhoda to assess the damage. Rhoda took a look and reassured me that this isn’t a breakout, just histamine leaving my skin. She gave me very helpful advice & I am confident that this will be barely noticeable by tomorrow evening! I immediately booked an appointment for a facial with Rhoda next week! I wanted to say THANKYOU to the Kiva staff for attending to my needs(I didn’t even have an appointment)! Some people think customer service is dead — not the case at Kiva at State Street!

Sylvia Alvarado, at Kiva Salon in Macy’s on State Street, deserves a great review. She gives a fantastic haircut, she is meticulous with color, and she is fabulous with blow drying and styling. Sylvia has a great persona. She will make suggestions without being pushy. She makes me feel very special when I am in her chair. The Kiva Salon is convenient for me, but if Sylvia were to leave, I would follow her anywhere. No one is touching my hair other than Sylvia Alvarado. I was completely overcharged for a blow out and style that didn’t even look like the picture I showed. This was an expensive disappointment. I was blindsided by the $ 80 charge since I didn’t even get a haircut. And when I questioned it I was told the stylist worked on my hair for 90 minutes… so I’m penalized because it took over and hour to curl my hair? I say if you’re on state street, stick to Ulta, they are more transparent with their prices and actually cleaner.

I’ve been there twice now and this was to get my BROWSWAXEDONLY. I don’t think I would’ve known about Kiva if my eyebrow genie Amanda didn’t start working there a couple months ago. The front desk is pleasant but that whole area could be a little brighter-just a little bit. I get it though-it’s relaxing. Amanda is in a room this time so that’s a nice change from the Benefit brow bar at Ulta– somethings you just don’t want waxed in the company of two dozen strangers. I never really mine all that much but still-a nice change. My eyebrows look great. She’s very precise and professional. I’ve been a fan for about three years now and I always appreciate how she’ll use the tweezers and even the scissors when need be. Sometimes when I wanna feel extra special I have her fill them in and then I spend the next several hours checking them out in the mirror :)

I just had a haircut at Kiva at Macy’s Chicago about 1 week ago. The worst haircut I ever had. Uneven!!! I asked to cut and layer. The lady who cut my hair at the Kiva took time cutting my hair, and told me she does hair for celebrity and all. I believe she does a great job styling hair, but she really should go back to beauty school and learn how to cut hair! After I washed my hair and combed… made me speechless… I wish I can go back and they fix her mess. I wouldn’t complain or disappointing much if I went to haircuttry and got $ 5 haircut. But I thought I could rely more on professional hair cut in a famous department store like Macy’s… :*( It is a expensive haircut if you come home and have a bad haircut.

My last pedicure lasted for weeks! My mother and I came back to Adela and Carmen for pedicures and were still pleased. I also like that they use a polish brand called Sparitual which doesn’t use formaldehyde or animal products. The bottles of polish also look new and not watered down. I don’t mind that some areas in the spa look worn. The place is clean. The bathroom is decent. Everyone was friendly and I got an awesome pedicure.

It has come to my attention that the labour practices at the Kiva Store in Macy’s State Street are quite onerous and I thought others might be interested to know. The language is remarkably out of touch, angry and de-motivating. It sounds like it was written in then 1950s. If you are thinking of patronizing this place, you should read this memo. Here is the text: «Retail Requirements for May-June 2013 Kiva has had very poor retail sales over the last few months. Starting May 1, 2013, there are new retail requirements for all Kiva employees. Any employee who is seen not attempting to sell retail will be reported to me and your manager at the end of every night. If an employee shows up three times on the non-selling list within one week they will automatically be put on a no-walk-in list for 1 week or until I see attempts to sell. GSR must sell $ 10 per horu they work. If they are not averaging this then their hours will be cut. Any employee who does not attempt to sell retail for 2 consecutive weeks will be required to a retail sales presentation to your manager. This is not a joke. I am tired of laziness and people not even trying. You work in a retail and service industry so I expect you to understand what you chose as a career. If you cannot sell retail retail then let me know and I will gladly help you find a new company to work for.»

I came here as I was referred by a coworker of mine. i recently moved here and have been searching for someone good. I’m very very picky with my hair being mixed and having long curly thick hair(takes me over an hour to just straighten it myself). I was sceptic before because it is in. a Macys but still went with an open mind. My stylist was Tristan and OMG! I can honestly say that he is the best stylist I have ever had! I can’t believe I had to move across country to find someone like him. He treated me like a princess and gave me so much advice on my hair. I have never seen it so healthy and straight. I had so many compliments afterwards. Please do yourself and come to Kiva and ask for Tristan. You will not regret it!

Was in Chicago for a business meeting and happened to break a nail while in Macy’s to dine at the Walnut Room. As luck would have it Kiva Spa and Salon is located in Macy’s on the 5th floor. I did not have an appointment and yet the receptionist was able to work with the nail technician to squeeze me into their schedule for a complete manicure. Adela was amazing! Her skills are top notch and very reasonably priced. If I was a local she would be the only one I would want shaping and painting my nails.

EH– unless you want to combine your shopping with a wash/blow-out, I wouldn’t recommend coming here. If you want a mani-pedi, or brows, stick with the«beauty bar» on the 1st floor. The Kiva salon costs just as much as other salons, but is cold, big-yet-empty/bare, and is dirty and old. They aren’t horrible– but spend your $ elsewhere.

I rarely to never get manicures! However, my friend received a very nice holiday present from her coworker for Kiva services. Hair, nails, massage, whatever she wanted. On a Saturday, she took me to get my nails done for my birthday while I was in Chicago. We were about seven minutes late to our appointment but our ladies didn’t miss a beat. We were in an out in like 25 minutes, crazy fast! I had Ania, she was really nice, fun and did a great job. She made my bitten off nails looks elegant. My friend and I both got a very dark color that we’d never tried before and I love it. Great service and really friendly people. They had a great selection of products with my favorites, Kerastase and Bumble & Bumble.
