I don’t know how I have lived in Chicago on and off for 8 years and never heard of Johnny O’s until now. Johnny’s O’s 24 hour walk up window is like a miracle. I walked up real late and got an egg sandwich with bacon. It was beyond miraculous. Next time I’m getting a hotdog.

Breaded steak sandwich. Who knows what the rest of the menu tastes like, and who cares. This is why I come here. The only other place that could ever compete was called Mama Falcos, and they disappeared. When they closed, I searched high and low for something that came close, but everything fell short. Not even Ricobenes could hit that spot. If there’s such a thing as the food gods, they smiled upon me the day I found Johnny O’s.

I gotta admit for a small stand it’s pretty great and quick and not overpriced. Very reasonable priced and offers a kind staff. A must go check out

Johnny O’s…O how I love you. Get the chicken nuggets. They’re homemade and they’re fucking awesome. They also have the best BBQ sauce to go with them. Hot dogs, fries, and cheese sticks are all great as well. And oh yeah, you can get 20 fried shrimp with fries and a pop for about 5 bucks… yeah, they’re popcorn shrimp, but delicious nonetheless. Their walk up window is open 24⁄7 and has saved me on many drunken nights. This is just a cool, old school spot that I hope never goes away. Now go give them your money!

Super nice guy at the counter. Made the sandwich while I waited. I had to have the infamous Mother-in-Law. Unique sandwich that’s for sure. I destroyed it! Great fries too.

While in Chicago we wanted to try Johnny O’s! We ordered an Italian beef sub with fries. This was an awesome tasting, messy, finger licking good sandwich! The owner — Johnny O himself came out to say hello and chat with us. What a friendly crew — great service!

What can I say that hasn’t already been said. Well, here, it’s open 24 hours and serves some of the best dogs and pizza puffs and fries in all of Bridgeport. I walk my dog here and they love him. Their outdoor seating is a great place for a quick bite or to hang while they make your food. The staff are really cool and always remember me when I come by. I am so glad that I finally tried them!

JOHNNY O’s!!! This place rules. Truly old school Chicago fast food done right. Gotta get the chicken nuggets they have there! Real pieces of chicken homemade goodness. Me personally, i go with that, a pizza puff meal, and a lil half pint of whiskey from the liquor store. Cant go wrong!!!

So I just ordered here, she was soooo damn happy about her work, but then I got this … Look at picture, I saved a few buck after the ball game to have some good food. But God I could had died. I’ve herd of medium rare stakes and what not but pork chops? Might as well ask for a damn raw chicken. I’m actually really upset about it it cause I love this place, I guess they though I was drunk n send me off with this bomb shell. Tsk tsk, food is my life yo

We ordered a chili cheese dog and burger, and both were pretty darn good! The prices are very reasonable and the people were nice. The only downside is the location, which seemed like a bad neighborhood and we had to drive in circles to find parking. Great #StreetMeat though so I’m happy!

My go to corner store/beer store/good greasy food that’s bad for me but oh so good to me place. It’s quick, it’s greasy but it’s cheap, it’s a Johnny O’s triple cheese burger. I love this place. Staff are all great, always treat you nice every time you go in. They are reasonable prices on beer and smokes bearing in mind they are a small business. Love it!

Well this place was a let down! It has all the hallmarks of a good hot dog place, but when it comes to the product, the hot dog was just average. I asked for celery salt, and got none. There is no cucumber offered like some of my favorite places, and finally the fries were a huge miss. They were pretty much tasteless and way under-cooked. I could do a better job with frozen fries for Oreida. All in all a big disappointment.

The mother-in-law sandwich was superb as well as the breakfast combos(great portion sizes too) but what really made this place special was the owner and restaurant’s namesake, Johnny O. My friends and I were in town for the Taste of Chicago and staying in the Pilsen area. While visiting the attached liquor store, another staff member mentioned that the restaurant next door was great and that the MIL had won several awards and had even been featured on TLC. He invited us back for breakfast or lunch the next day and we are all so glad that we took him up on that offer. After taking our orders, we began to converse with Johnny and learned that one of his staff members had family in the part of Kansas that we’re from. He offered us complimentary fountain drinks since we ordered so much food. By the end of our dining experience we had developed such a relationship with Johnny that he gave us all menus signed with our names and a message of «good luck, good health, and safe travels back to Kansas.» As a foodie and lover of hole-in-the-wall gems, this place is at the top of my list for the food and hospitality.

Stopped in to the dining room this afternoon for lunch. Double cheeseburger & fries for $ 3.99 is hard to beat. And while it isn’t exactly gourmet fare, it was right for the price. Thumbs up to the customer service. Because it was my first time there, I had no idea where the«dining room» was or how to order. You have to give your order at the counter in the liquor store, pay, and then go around the corner and up the stairs to where the tables are. The woman at the counter was very nice and polite as she explained what I was supposed to do. And as a bonus, I met whom I assume is Johnny O himself, who was a very nice guy(and if I hadn’t been in a hurry to get back to work, I woulda chatted with him some).

After reading all of the Unilocal reviews, I decided to hit this joint on the way home from Comiskey. It was cute, really, a reminiscent of the ol’ lean to’s of days past. The cashier lady was really nice and polite, though the cook looked at me like I slapped his Momma. Speaking of Momma’s, I brought mine, since we attended the«Mother Son» Sox game. We agreed that we needed to tackle a couple of MILs, and I wanted to try their regular hot dog and fries. So! Service was quick and polite. The MIL was okay. I love the uniqueness of it, but my particular tamale was barely luke warm. I will give it another go sometime after I’ve had a few more brewskis. The regular hot dog was disappointing. I’m a sucker for poppy seed buns and celery salt. Theirs has little circle pickle-thingies too, which kind of scared me. Their fries were hot and fresh! Overall, I love the ambiance of this little shack. Also, the price is right, this place is cheaaaaaaap. What a welcome relief in this day and age.

Ohhh, Johnny O’s, thank you for being across the street for all my drunken and/or hungover meals. No, this is nothing fancy, but if you want a super cheap deal for pizza puffs, chili dogs, or a bacon egg & cheese, this is the place to go on 35th. Also, it’s like a bodega. You can get beer, liquor, and other random corner store items in a pinch. The staff is also pretty friendly. Thanks for always hookin it up!

I love you Johnny O’s, and for so much more than just the Mother-In-Law! If you’re from the area, I’m sure you’ve heard of their famous MIL sandwich featuring a tamale/chili concoction(proudly noted on their sign, «as featured on TLC!»). I highly recommend trying that before anything else here, but oh is the rest of their food good. Inside Johnny O’s is actually a small food and liquor store where you can load up on snacks and drinks for your crazy night. This portion of the store closes at 10PM, but Johnny knows you’ll be back at 3 in the morning to the 24-hour takeout window attached to the store! In the back of this main area is also a very cool, retro dining room, usually showing local sports and news. Johnny is there during the day, be sure to meet him, he is a real swell guy and a proud owner(started slingin’ dogs when he was 12!). I can’t review this place without mentioning their beef, too. Dipped beef with hot giardiniera became one of my most eaten foods(unfortunately) after discovering this place. Throw in a nice 40 oz. of King Cobra from inside and you, sir, have a meal.

It was just OK but I will happily give them 2 more stars than I intended based upon their phenomenal customer service… So my husband and I stopped by one night after work and ordered a bunch of food and all of it was good, not amazing, but nonetheless it was good cheap food. We wanted to check it out because they were featured on TLC for having the best sandwich in the country, the«Mother-in-Law» So if you YouTube this segment, you will see customers telling you this sandwich causes pain… Helllllllo heartburn. I basically chugged a gallon of milk throughout the night trying to sleep. Mother-in-Law is a beast of a woman and a sandwich. Not my mother-in-law though, she is amazing.(Ha ha) So anyway, the customer service… this wretched beast of a woman ordered $ 3 worth of food and left… She returned about 15 minutes later complaining of cold stale fries and a flavorless Sierra Mist. The guy at the counter made every effort to appease the gal and she acted like he had personally shoved her grandmother down a flight of stairs. Seriously, she was LIVID that she had surely been purposely mistreated due to her race and this guy handled it like a champ! We watched in horror as she threw her fries at his cook and demanded to know if she would eat such disgusting things. You ordered a deep fried pizza puff and french fries, made a huge scene, scared pedestrians walking by, and threatened to call the police over this injustice… He not only refunded her money, he remade her whole order and smiled THEENTIRETIME!!! It. Was. Golden. I shall return with Mylanta in tow! They also serve breakfast!

My experience here was not very good. We even gave it a try another time and our second experience is not good either. I will say this the best thing about Johnny o’s is their zucchini chips they are excellent. I had chicken wings from here that were just okay and the fries that came with them were disgusting I don’t know if they needed to change the oil but the oil taste was very strange. I also have a cup of soup from here that made me very sick and had me throwing up. I was sick all day long.
