First let’s talk about the fact that they had no menu. We got there and asked for one and the dude said«Well what you want we got…» And started naming everything he could. We had the baked chicken which was very good and well seasoned. I had the greens which were great and my girl had the yams which were very delicious as well. The corn bread was dry and then we got to the Mac and cheese which was served in a bowl like oatmeal. It was bland. The place was clean but it was freezing in there. Get your food to go. Pass on the Mac and cheese and get white bread.

I went to Johnna’s for dinner tonight. I had the fried chicken with mac n cheese and greens. It came with a piece of corn bread. The chicken was spiced very well, and extremely delicious. The greens were tasty, as was the mac and cheese. I would definitely go back.

Fantastic service. Attentive, polite, and very accommodating staff. I’ve only been to this restaurant about three times now and I feel like a regular by the warm way I am treated when I come in. Really could not be a more welcoming or comfortable environment. Great menu with options for just about anybody, a good variety without being too complicated or overwhelming. quality food in perfectly satisfying portions absolutely unrivaled in the area. Really stands out.

I google searched this restaurant and decided to go because I definitely support local businesses. However, I won’t be returning to this place again! When my spouse and I walked in, the ‘employees’ were sitting down chatting; no problem– we were the only customers there. When we placed our order, they didn’t notify us that they didn’t have certain items on their menu. It wasn’t until AFTER the food was prepared. Speaking of which, our meats(fish/chicken)were cooked on the spot. Our sides were re-heated, so who knows how long the food has been there. The mac & cheese is terrible, so is the spaghetti. These are simple items to make, but there’s had NO flavor. Also, the credit card machine doesn’t work, wasn’t notified of that until afterwards either.

Once you get past the décor, or lack thereof, the food here is quite good. The menu is very extensive, which I find to be a little overwhelming. But there certainly is something for everyone. I have been sticking to soul food staples like baked chicken, jerk chicken, green beans, candied yams, corn bread and sautéed spinach. I have not scratched the surface of this menu. The staff is very friendly and quick to customize dishes to suit your tastes. I think Johnna’s is a great addition to the neighborhood.

This place has good food and good people. Living a few blocks away, I’ve been eying this place for a while now. With a small front close to the highway, an untrained eye would have write it off. But I am well aware of the value of a good home cooked meal. I walked in hoping for a basic breakfast spread, eggs, bacon, hash brown. After not finding what I wanted on the menu, yes I’m a bit of a picky person, John helped me out and worked out a deal for me. I got eggs, bacon, homemade hash brown with green bell pepper, wheat toast, jam, and a coffee all for under $ 8. And it was gooood. Real eggs, even got asked while they were being cooked if they were cooked enough(sunny side up). The bacon was perfectly cooked, and was even offered turkey bacon. I was very very satisfied with the food, being as picky as I am. John made sure to know that he has an off the menu soul food menu that changes everyday that I should be sure to check on. It is clear to me that I will definitely be checking it out and coming back. There was some sort of criminal show on tv and it was pretty interesting. It felt like eating at home, even exchanging commentary with John. This place not only has good food, but also good people.

This place is unexpectedly amazing. Little hole-in-the-wall off of Western near Harrison and the Blue line stop. The team that runs the place CARES. I stopped in for breakfast to go, and was given one of the best, to-go meals I could have imagined(Fresh fruit, nicely laid out, real eggs, had a few requests which were handled and placed on tin foil inside the plastic to-go box so my food didn’t taste like the container). Friendly crew, quality, authentic soul food made with care. Hard to find these days.

I recently had a chance to check this place out since its really close to my house. I used to go to west side gyros till now, I love this place. The menu has a wide variety of options and a very good price. Everything from basic gyro restaurant type food to steak dinners. The staff is very polite and the service is also very fast which is great. I definitely recommend stopping by this place to see for yourself.

I hate to downgrade a new restaurant, but I went back and it was very underwhelming. I had catfish that was just so-so. I ordered spaghetti„ but what I got were fettuccine noodles covered with an extra thick meat paste. The macaroni and cheese was not that great. My son will eat anybody’s macaroni and he did not care for it, either.

I went to their grand opening on 8/2/14.The waitress didn’t know to take orders correctly, the cashier didn’t know how to operate the cash register and the wait was extremely long. Got my food I ordered 2 dinners(chicken& fish) and both were not done. okay I understand this was their 1st day. So I decided to give the place another try I ordered chicken, cabbage, mac & cheese and meatloaf, cabbage, sweet potatoes. I have never had soul food so HORRIBLE in my life. This restaurant is new and clean but the food and service is horrible. a lot of people in the area where food is being prepared is a NO-NO. I noticed one girl taking unprepared food out the back door once i got my food so I decided to go drive thru the alley to see where she went with the food. I saw a big steel freezer in the back by the alley where there is rats. I don’t know how the City of Chicago cleared this place to open! beware! I wish I could give this review no stars!
