Unless the barbers know you, they act like they don’t notice you when you walk in. Took my son to get a haircut and we were pretty much ignored until one of the guys that was just standing around(and there were three barbers not doing anything) finally asked what we needed. I told him that my son needed a haircut, he took my son to a chair and five minutes later a really young guy came out and started cutting my sons hair. I had told the baber that i didn’t want his hair too short just a nice fade and lined up. Well when he finished my son came out with a hair style like will smith in the fresh prince when it first came out! Terrible hair cut and completely uneven. Had to take him to another place to get it fixed. Needless to say I will never take him there again, not only was the service terrible but so was the treatment.

For the last 2 years traveling to the Windy City, It was always a challenge looking for a real barbershop, don’t know why I never used Unilocal to find a barbershop. I was glad I found Jayuya’s after reading great reviews. The minute I walked in Barber(Tito) took care of me and hooked me up. Great atmosphere feels like you are in the island listening to great Salsa, Merengue and Reggaeton.

No other barber like Kerly @ Jayuya. Razor fade. I have been coming here for 3years. He’s on my speed dial. If I need a quick cut, trim, a refresh — he’s been there. Excellent Humboldt Park service! Go beyond Western Avenue, mi gente– Division Avenue is safe!

We drive two hours every two weeks for my boyfriends haircut. He’s mixed(Jamaican and Irish) so it’s hard to find a place that can cut his hair the way that he wants it. The guys here take their time to do it right. You should really make an appointment because they are busy and their customers are loyal. They will cut the hair of those who make appointments before walk ins(as they should). This is definitely the place to go for a detailed cut and shave. They’ll even clean up your brows.

This is the place to go for a great haircut, good atmosphere, and clean location. Don’t come in without an appointment as you will have to wait a long time. Book an appointment with Jose Luis or Ray as these guys are the best and they will have you come back again and again…

Great barbershop in the Humboldt Park area. My husband’s go-to barber is Kerly for at least the last 6 years. Most of the time leaves his hair right on point even after a few switches in style over the years. Didn’t meet Kerly ’till recently when my husband insisted on taking our 1 year old here for his haircut. So by appointment on a Saturday, Kerly was so sweet and patient with our son and left him looking very clean cut and handsome. I left telling my husband that he has to share his barber with our little man from now on.

This review is solely for Jose — I was looking for a barber to give my then 1 year old son a haircut. A friend recommended Jose, whom he had been going to for years. I had to book an appointment with him a couple of weeks in advance. When I got there i was the only female and the only Mexican in the place, which i thought was funny, but it is right in the heart of Humboldt Park. Jose was right on schedule and took my son in right away. He did a good job on the cut and when it was time to use a machine on him he pulled out a lollipop right away. He made my little guy comfortable, happy, and the best part is the haircut was amazing. Two years later, he is still my son’s barber. My only complaint is that I have to book the appointment weeks in advance, he is good and has regulars with WEEKLY appointments.

I just returned from a hair cut there and would never go back! My experience:(weekday) After asking one of the barber’s how long the wait was specifically for him, he replied, «I only do appointments.» I understand this because after waiting for 56 minutes, I noticed he was the best barber there so I wanted him as my barber. During this conversation another barber scolded me like a child and said, «Just sit down and someone will help you.» In my head, I thought, «This hair cut better be worth it because I drove all the way to Humboldt Park for this.» Four people who came in after me(at least 30 minutes) received a hair cut before me. When the barber who scolded me across the room finished with his client, he walked him over to the cash register where I was waiting and in front of me made douche bag comments. The barber said something to the effect about new people coming in and thinking they deserve service. I looked him straight in the face as he said this but he looked away continuing his conversation. 25 minutes later, Angel the barber took pity on me and called me over to his chair. Overall the haircut was a 7 out of 10. When my haircut was over I tipped him $ 20 because I wanted to make a statement to the other barbers there: They missed out on a great opportunity to keep a new client, and a generous tip. But in the end, I guess they do not care about customer service because the locals go there and anyone who is not a regular is going to be treated substandard. If your time is valuable, go somewhere else!

I travel a lot for work switching cities every couple of months. It’s always a daunting task to find a barber with whom I entrust my head to. Needless to say I always have to put my feelers out and find just the right barber, typically Puerto Rican and Dominican Barbers I’ve found to be best. Jayuya is a primarilly Puerto Rican barbership located on Paseo Boricua in Humbold Park. There are a bunch of similar barbersshops on this strip but I was referred to Jayuya from a client so I thought I’d give it a shot. I was told to see Kerly and was very happy with this referral. Kerly is a great guy and takes a lot of pride in his craft. He can do regular cuts, tapes, fades, faux hawks or even do intricate designs on your scalp. I choose my basic low tape and he has hooked it up every time. Definitely a welcoming place and quality cuts would reccomend it to anyone. One word of advice is to call in and make an appointment as it will take a while to get seated as a walk in.

It’s the usual story for me… I need a haircut, I’m busy with something else, and I end up not getting one for weeks on end. In the profession I’m in, I need to clean up, so after those few weeks go by, it becomes unacceptable. Decided to look around and see what places to try, and figured Jayuya with it’s big olé five star rating would be worth a shot. Get into the store at 10:00AM, and every one of the barbers look busy so I sit down in a chair and wait… and wait… and wait… and wait… After an hour, I’ve decided that since I’ve waited here this long, I’m just going to wait it out and see what happens. At this point, I’ve seen a few things: 1. These guys can do PHENOMENAL art work on your head. I mean carving out Bob Marley as a design so that it’s amazing and clean! Crazy razor work. 2. They often take breaks and just hang out and chat with the customers and themselves. Getting a new customer is NOT their priority. 3. They will bump up people they know past you. I don’t know how many people walked in after me and ended up getting a seat before me… About 10 minutes after the hour, one of the guys asks me what kind of cut I want, and I let him know I just need the top cleaned down and the sides buzzed down to a 1 blade. Another hour later, I finally get a chair. He tells me he’s sorry for the wait, but typically on weekends they work by appointment only. That helps explain it a bit, since I was starting to feel like as an Asian guy in a Puerto Rican barbershop, no one wanted to give me a cut. And then he proceeded to cut. And he cut beautifully. Worth the wait? Absolutely not. I will not be coming back here on a weekend without an appointment. Worth getting your haircut? Absolutely. I get the feeling it’ll be awhile before I become an «ol boy» that knows people there, but I’ll be back a few more times to get the nice clean up they did for my hair. $ 14, and then some tip? Excellent cut and excellent price. Verdict: Come here and check it out. DONOT come on weekends with no appointment because you will lose your freakin mind.
