J & J Speaker Repair

I had a set of Jensen Sound Lab Mode 15 speakers that I had gotten from a friend and the speakers had deteriorated but I didn’t want to throw out these two very large units without checking to see about repair. I took it to J & J and they repaired them a very nominal cost and they play terrific now. I highly recommend them.

Great small independent shop run by a straightforward and friendly guy who gets the job done quickly and at a reasonable price. The reason for 4 rather than 5 stars is that I can’t say if my speakers have the same exceptional sound quality after the repair as before they needed to be repaired.

I took an old pair of three way infinity reference series speakers to Mick. He re-​foamed both woofers and put new life into those puppies! They are up and running again. Turnaround was awesome. Took about three days to get them back. Cost was very reasonable as well. Thanks again Mick, fantastic job!

This guy is great! I took an old beat out speaker from my 60’s Nutone radio in for repairs and he had it ready for me the next day! The next day!!! Great service, courteous and friendly! Thanks again!!!

Top notch,… Mick brought my 25 year old Infinity RS 6001’s back to life. Mid and woofer drivers needed to be refoamed. Turn-​around was quick and the price was reasonable.

I walked into this place expecting the kind and warm customer service experience like you’d expect from a small independent business thats seems to have been around for a long time. Unfortunately the gentlemen that greeted me was anything but kind or warm (or polite for that matter.) When I mentioned that I had a pair of powered studio monitors that a friend of mine had left me when he moved out of my apartment this guy immediately stated that they don’t deal with ‘amps’ before I even had an chance to finish my sentence. I said to him that I didn’t even know if it is the amp that was the problem with the speaker and that is why I was there, to find out. I asked if we could plug them in and check to see if it was something to do with the speaker or amp. If it was the speaker I’d have him repair it. He then asked if I had any of the cables which I didn’t as they were likely packed away and taken when my buddy moved out. He didn’t have any power or audio cables apparently either… How a speaker store doesn’t have any kind of audio cables for a powered monitor is beyond me… Anyway, this guy apparently doesn’t want your business so go somewhere that does and is willing to take a few extra steps to earn it.

Mick did a great job on my speakers. Spent the extra time to figure out what was wrong. And stood by his work completely. It’s hard to find someone to do this kind of work these days. Nobody repairs anything anymore so it’s great to breathe new life into my speakers. I’d definitely use him again.

If you need a speaker re-​coned, this is the place to go to. Folks in Chicago don’t know how lucky they are to have a shop like this.
