Hyde Park School of Dance

This program is outstanding. The focus of this school is not only to produce skilled dancers; but to help develop thoughtful, kind, supportive young people. HPSD staff are trained teachers with a deep knowledge of dance, choreography, dance history, and costuming.
Many dance studios focus on teaching children a dance to perform at a recital. HPSD’s focus is to build strength and technique that will allow a dancer to perform any dance. Students are not rushed through this program. Students may not being point training until they are able to pass a physical and written exam to assure that their bodies and minds are ready.
This program is truly one of the finest in Chicago.

The ballet mistress selects her favorites and smacks of cronyism. Talent is not part of her decision making. She chooses her faves and does not alleviate from that. My child had been denied wonderful opportunities but not been allowed to display them as she has already chosen and strictly adheres to nepotism and cronyism. Not a great way to promote any artistic form.

The Hyde Park School of Dance is excellent. Unlike some other places where you can drop your child off and have them babysat in a tutu while you shop for 90 minutes, the Hyde Park School of Dance is a REAL SCHOOL. My daughter’s been in classes there for two years, taking in almost all that’s offered — tap, jazz, ballet, modern. She’s danced Nutcracker both of those years, had her tail worked like the last inadequate dance babysitting outfit on the north side never was able to.
My daughter is now taught by real professional dancers — not dancer wannabes who were not good enough to dance professionally so they decided to teach instead.
And here’s a kicker — Hyde Park School of Dance, considering length and frequency of classes, quality of instruction, courtesy and professionalism of the faculty, and outright passion of the administration, the classes are far less costly than that inadequate dance «classes» my daughter received at the joint in the strip mall by Chuckie Cheese up on the north side.
