I’m disappointed to write this review because I ordered from this restaurant a few months ago and things went well. My experience tonight, however, was bad enough that I felt I should share it. I ordered from GrubHub around 5pm tonight and didn’t receive my order for about two and a half hours. Getting my order involved multiple calls to the restaurant, finding out the GrubHub order had never been put through, hearing that the order was on its way when it really wasn’t, and the owner finally delivering the order in person. I appreciate the personal touch, but I don’t appreciate the lack of communication and unreasonable delivery time.

I want to give –5 stars. Food was 25 min late when it took a hour for delivery as it is. To say the least it was cold. Grubhub called the restaurant on my be half and I was told that I am wrong. Never argue with a customer this is how you lose business.

The food was awful. Dry ass fried rice and Bland Egg Foo Young. Close this sucker. How the hell can you make bad China-man food.

I love writing good reviews. I hate writing bad reviews. In this case, I feel compelled to be honest and not sugar coat our experience. I have been trying to find good Chinese in this neighborhood for a couple of years now. This is not it. Egg Rolls tasted freezer burned and also seemed to have been cooked in rancid oil. My wife couldn’t even swallow it. She ran to the kitchen trash and spit it out. Crab Rangoon … Same problem with the oil. Chicken Fried Rice … Worst I have ever had. Cold diced chicken dropped on top of a very dark brown, very dry rice that tasted awful. Orange Chicken … The best thing we had and it was not very good at all. Bottom line … I expect good Chinese food to be made with fresh ingredients and cooked with fresh oil. Not happening at this place. Not at all. My search continues. I will never order from this place again.

Solid, cheap Chinese food. Not my go to but a pretty good fall back option. They’re very quick as well

Good chinese probably the most authentic in the area. Quality is good and service is always nice.

We’d eaten at Hong Kong Restaurant before as walk-in diners and were really impressed with it, despite the less than exciting store front, but when we ordered in, we were very pleased. We got the family special for two and ended up with a metric TON of food, all of which was extremely fresh, hot, and tasty. It’s one of the few places we’ve eaten where the chicken fried rice had large enough chunks of chicken that you could tell what they were. The only drawback was that the beef dish only had a few pieces of beef, but there was so much of everything that it really didn’t matter. Definitely worth the price(which is also ridiculously low, by the way)!

This place was amazing! From customer service to amazing food! We were very pleased with this find. We ordered the orange chicken dinner plate and the Mongolian beef dinner plate. The portions are huge! And cheap. Loved it!

I’ve been searching for a go-to Chinese place for years now. After reading a few reviews, we decided to give this one a go. We were pleasantly surprised. Do not let the less than attractive façade fool you. This place is pretty good. Especially liked the Singapore Noodles. Excellent portion sizes. Obviously a family run operation. The kids were pitching in when I came in for my to-go order. Friendly and polite.

My experience has really changed with this restaurant. I had one really bad experience here, but I tried it again 6 months later. And, now, this is easily my favorite Chinese restaurant. I’ve eaten both in the dining room and I get carry out frequently. It’s conveniently located near the metra tracks and it’s so easy to order through grub hub. The people that own and operate the restaurant — I believe it’s a family — are lovely. They are always nice and surprisingly friendly. This has become my favorite weeknight place. I really enjoy it and I’m glad it’s in the neighborhood. Thanks Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant!

Hong Kong is the best Chinese Restaurant in Rogers Park, hands down. The Hot and Sour Soup, Chow fun, and everything else I’ve had from here is delicious. Prices are reasonable, delivery is quick, and they have online ordering. Really authentic food, nothing else in the area comes close to Hong Kong.

A group of three of us came and ordered General’s chicken, orange chicken, salt and pepper shrimp, broccoli and pea pods, and crab rangoon. It was a lot of food for not that much money. Of the entrees, the orange chicken was the best. It was so very tasty! The crab rangoon were also excellent, with little pieces of imitation crab meat in a creamy filling. We will defiantly be back for some more inexpensive, delicious food.

This was a ton of food. Came on time and very hot. Here’s what I ordered: –shrimp with pea pods –shrimp with cashews –crab langoon –general tsaos –house special chow fun The shrimp was good, I got the half portions, still a lot of food… very hot, fresh and flavorful. The crab rangoons were some of the better rangoons that I have had, I’m very particular about the size and creaminess level of these. general tsaos was crispy and sweet, I got it non spicy. The house chow fun was by far my favorite, yummy noodles with a ton of stuff. Good chinese

My wife and I were not impressed when Hong Kong Restaurant went under new management. Overall, the food wasn’t as good as before in both taste and quality. However, today we were craving Chinese food, so we placed a carry out order. What a difference a few months makes; the food was delicious, ready on time, and service was great! We are happy to have our go to Chinese food restaurant back :)

Under new management! The food and service have both improved tenfold since the new owners took over two months ago. The new chef really knows what he’s doing. Despite having read all the sketch reviews concerning food quality and cleanliness, I decided to take a shot on this place. I was in a hurry, and tempted by the more than reasonable prices. The woman behind the counter was really patient with answering all my questions, and my veggie fried rice was ready in five minutes flat. The food is delicious, the service is great, and I’m really optimistic about the change in management. Definitely worth checking out.

This place left a flyer in my door. I ain’t no racist so I don’t discriminate. I also shave my groin so I know that the three pubic hairs I found in my food weren’t mine. Even though it wasn’t on the menu, I asked this place if they could make Mongolian Beef. They were kind enough to accommodate my modest request, though I am pretty sure I didn’t ask for a side of crotch rug. It took over an hour for this place to deliver some warmed up rice. The large shrimp fried rice contained but a few gravel-sized squeakers and the crab rangoon was as moist and bland as a suburban housewife watching a Denzel Washington movie. Do not order food from this joint. Since they don’t sell lightbulbs, I guess I’m saying don’t call them for anything. Pubes.

I’ve eaten here twice and both meals were take out. The first meal I had was Sweet and Sour Chicken Dinner combo. The sweet and sour chicken had the sauce poured on it already which in my opinion makes it soggy by the time you get home. Also staplilng the lid down does the same thing b/c it traps all the steam in and makes the dish soggy. The taste was good though. Here’s what I really like about Hong Kong. The dinner combo comes with Chicken fried rice, unless you get a Lo Mein dish. 1 egg roll, 2 fried chicken wings and 1 crab rangoon… and it’s $ 5.25 to $ 6.45 and it’s tons of food. Definitely enough for 2 or 2.5 meals. For the price it can’t be beat! My second meal was Sesame Chicken and it was okay. I probably won’t order that again. It was drowning in sauce and soggy. However, my roomie got the Generals chicken and it was delish. I will def order it the next time I go. A friend ordered the Egg Fo Young and he loved it. It’s not the best Chinese food I’ve had but it’s definitely not the worst. Again, for the price and all the food you get it can’t be beat. I guess next time I get the S and S chicken I’ll ask for the sauce on the SIDE! PS: You can get half a dozen Almond Cookies for 1.00 and their good.

Right down the middle of the road. If I were taking a customer satisfaction survey, I would reply«Meets Expectations» for just about every facet of the restaurant. Service is exactly what you would expect. Not too cold, not too warm. Although, I will say that one time, my food was ready in the promised 15 minutes except that they left the egg roll for the end, which took an additional 7 – 8 minutes. Not much in the grand scheme, but poor kitchen management. Prices are tough to beat – $ 1.95 for small soup, most small main dishes in the $ 3.75 range. Fried shrimp: C, too greasy and bready Egg drop soup: B+, surprisingly flavorful but not salty Egg roll: C, vegetables should be crisper Moo shoo: C+, again vegetables seem overcooked Chicken with snow peas: B-, fresh vegetables, somewhat bland Shrimp fried rice: B-, tasty but not too heavy or greasy, needs more vegetables
