Harper Memorial Library at the Commons

Definitely the best place to study on campus. It has such a studious atmosphere, and it is open 24 hours during the week. It unfortunately closes early on Fridays and Saturdays. I love harper not only because it has the best atmosphere but it also has a pretty good café. The people who work at harper are pretty nice. Be aware tho, this place is super quiet and people will look at you really weirdly if you make the slightest sound. Its bathrooms are not too great but they are hella huge. As for the temperature of this place, it needs to be warm and cozy!

Gorgeous. Reminiscent of Hogwarts– a widely agreed upon notion, thus heavily visited. Also a great place to study, sleep, or hangout quietly.

Can I really say «Yay! I’m a fan»???
Hmmmmmm…not quite sure. But at the same time… sure, why not?!? I spend most of my days there lately and I really don’t want to think of myself as a masochist.
Now that my status of ex-​student at the University of Chicago has definitely kicked me out of the library (and the gym and all things university-​related) I have no other choice but to work on my translation from this — I have to say — quite gorgeous space on the 3^rd floor of the Harper Building in the Quads.
The door is open to all, no need of a card or a geek uniform to enjoy the premises. There are two main rooms — one dedicated to silent work and the other meant for study groups and tutoring.
Works in my books. I am able to work in a ‘controlled-​pet/​TV/​bed free’ environment, and I am actually a motivation for my friend who has to finish her dissertation by the end of this year (at least, if she doesn’t me to kick her butt).
Isn’t it just wonderful.

— There are computers but no internet access possible for the non-​students (unless you have a fancy-​shmancy wireless provider)
— The couches and armchairs are not mind-​blowing but quite welcoming (I think) for all the nap afficionados out there.
— There is a lovely coffee shop to fuel your neurones. Skip the coffee, it’s simply awful (I think the students in charge of it just try to express their internal anger by making it totally undrinkable); get tea (bagged for you) or a latte. Sweets from Foodism, and cupcakes too.
— Open until 1am Sunday through Thursday, 5pm during the weekend.
— Parking is next to impossible during the week, so plan accordingly.
— Stop by to say hi, deliver me from my misery and take me for a walk by the lake.
— Last, but not least: do not make fun of all the dork-​looking dorks out there; these are poor souls my friend. Show them respect.
