While looking for a different place to try, I went to Chicago’s Best website and found Gunners. I was excited about the menu and eager to go! I spent an hour getting there, only to find out it is under renovation! It would’ve been nice if they had updated their website to state that fact! I don’t see myself taking the time to fight the traffic just to see if they finally opened.

I pretty much agree with everything Kyle B. said. I went in there on Friday 10⁄12 with a friend and there were only 3 other patrons in the bar in an area where all bars should be rather packed on a Friday night. The bartender was an above-average mixologist but a horrible server. My friend asked for water twice with her drink and it never came. Even though there were only three other people in the bar, the bartender seemed to avoid giving us any attention. The bartender obviously does not care about the bar. Seems like an easy fix to me.

Boooo. Not the worst bar I’ve ever been to but up there. Drinkers are pricey and they’ve got no taps and their bottle selection sucks. The music played is pretty cool but thats really the only redeeming factor. The staff is nice but obviously doesn’t really give a crap(I wouldn’t either if I worked here). Pretty much the most boring and personality-less bar I’ve been to. Theres a reason its pretty much empty even on weekends folks!

So about Gunners… Only been there once. Their gimlet was strong and good. Indecently priced at $ 11. The house wine was $ 7. I couldn’t tell you what it was, I was slightly tipsy. The bartender… at first I thought she might be a little ditzy and all, the way she never came around to ask us if we were ready to order. It was dead on a Saturday night and my boyfriend had to order at the bar. Hmm… okay, so maybe that’s the way they run things but I’m pretty sure the bartender thought that Gunner’s is also run Hooters-style because of the way she was dressed and paying attention to the young men sitting at the bar. Alright, so at this point my date and I are ready to hit the road. We asked several times for our check and although we were acknowledged, after 20 minutes we still hadn’t received it. She was the only one working in the place and had stepped outside to smoke. It was 1:30 am and we really just wanted to leave. So we did.

My husband and I are true fans of Unilocal. It really helps when you looking to visit someplace new. Today, it led us to Gunner’s and we were truly pleased. We aren’t drinkers but the reviews for the«Boss Hog» sandwich got us in the door. The food was great especially the onion rings and salad. It was a Sunday afternoon — business seemed to be a little slow but with summer’s arrival and the farmer’s market in full swing, what did I expect. Anyways, the waitress/bartender/cashier was great and very attentive. We are definitely adding this to our list of favorites.

Gunner’s has a great atmosphere and I LOVE the Hog’s Boss sandwich and the chorizo tacos which you can find on special during the week. Actually, all their food is fantastic and perfect in portion. The owners and bartenders are extremely friendly, not the speediest but just right. This place doesn’t get too busy which others seem to not like, but I enjoy it. I am not always looking for a packed bar to casually drink and eat on a weekend. Not really a place I would bring a big group too but a perfect place to go with a buddy to chill and/or grab a delicious bite to eat.

I could have sworn I was at Swig, but my credit card says Gunners. Clearly this review is being written about a drunken experience so reader-beware. My friend from home was in town for the weekend and decided to take him to my favorite brunch spot, Crocodile. The brunch was not good at all that day and after 6 crafts of the bottomless mimosas gave me acid reflex, I threw in the towel. We walked around Wicker Park and got some Tylenol but then stumbled into Gunners. I ordered a bloody mary and he ordered a long island(it was 2pm, Bostonians go hard). We also got a burger with bacon and cheese and some fried pickles. I looked at the menu and didn’t see the pickles, but I swear I had them because they were just that memorable. Perfect drunken meal in the early afternoon.

Gunner’s is a great find, they have most everything I like in a bar, Great food(Try the Hog’s Boss), the coolest bartenders, and a Sam’s Club sized bottle of Jameson behind the bar. I’m in!

Gunner’s is an OK place. The bartender was cool and gave us some deals* on cheap beers. Unfortunately, the place is just dead even on a weekend night so it isn’t right for anyone young looking to go out. *Deals: He gave us $ 2 Busch Lites and when they ran out said he was going to give us $ 2 Hamm’s. Unfortunately when I got our tab it was $ 30 and supposed to be $ 18. I didn’t really realize it until I left. Not sure if it was on purpose or not, but it was the difference between 2.0 and 3.5 stars,

I’m not sure how this place has been around a year and is still open… I never see more then five people in here on any given night. Which is a disappointment since Gunner’s is actually pretty good. Nothing over the top amazing but they do a good solid job. Since it’s some of the same folks behind the Matchbox it’s not a surprising that they make some really good cocktails. But it was a shock to me to find out they have some tasty food. They have a slider that’s basically a mini version of the three little pigs that you really need to try. I know there are a lot of great places in the neighborhood but Gunner’s is worth not just walking past. Stop in for a snack and drink.

It’s ok, I couldn’t really tell what set this place apart from everything else… I like their décor, and their drinks were fine.

There are a few reasons why you should go to Gunner’s for their food: 1. yum yum chicken fingers 2. yum yum onion rings 3. yum yum anything fried 4. their entire menu(limited but wonderful) Even though the first time I went there(and a subsequent time), the guy messed up our order, the food was still great and they cut our bill in half b/c of the mistake. The people were really friendly– made you feel at home. The food is not too pricy and good for bar food. Good beer + good food = 5 stars for me

Let’s start with the music content… Zeppelin, GnR, Sabbath, RATM, Pumpkins… why can’t more bars understand this recipe for success. The volume is perfect… just loud enough to enjoy it, but not so loud that you are shouting at the people in your group. And the open windows are a solid touch. The servers are friendly, and to the point. No overly nice, bordering-on-creepy coddling midwestern interactions here. Felt like a great neighborhood bar with character that somehow found its way in the middle of a bunch of generic, multi-flat screen, Top 40 music blaring, douchebag attracting bars that has become The WP. On to the food — solid not-too-big burger(get the fried egg and bacon) and tater tots. Strange that they didn’t have any beer on tap. But their Jameson’s and Souza were as good as any I’ve had in the city. Adding this to my list of regular spots. Get involved.

Gunner’s is the epitome of what I’d consider a consistent and inviting neighborhood establishment. When I found out that a friend of mine’s boss and her husband would be starting a bar with the name of my future German Shepherd, I decided it only made sense to at least stop in for a drink. This is a relatively new place in Wicker Park, very close to tons of restaurants and other bars with lots of excitement going on outside. Inside, Gunner’s has a classy but casual feel to it. This isn’t a loud bar, but spacious with good acoustics; it’s ideal for circumstances when you actually feel like hearing people. Beautiful ceiling and dark wood walls, too. The menu is simple but quite tasty — you’re bound to find something delicious to nibble on — and the drinks are really, really good. Last time I went, they had infused their own strawberry peach vodka, which equaled a very happy me by the end of the night. Martinis are big, just the right amount of strong and have a powdered sugar rim(brilliant); there’s a well-rounded beer list too. Servers are really nice and attentive; the bartender is the same and always happy to make something off the drink list. I can tell they’ve got a lot of regulars — it’s usually a friendly and familiar crowd, so it seems like people keep coming back. It’s a great find in Wicker Park! The owners are wonderful and you can tell they definitely care about quality and their customers.

I came here before meeting up friends because the other bars in the area were super packed on a Saturday night. Never seen this place really crowded. The service was good., so if you are just looking for a bar to grab a drink and chat with friends check it out.

I first went to Gunner’s for a business get-together and was stunned by how good the food was. Gunner’s takes bar basics and does them well… extremely well. In fact, I took a friend back a couple weeks later and she said the chicken tenders were the best she had ever had in her life. The cocktails here are great, but I am in love with their fresh, elevated takes on finger food classics, which include hand battered onion rings, sliders and chorizo tacos. The kitchen is also open late, good for us midnight-snackers.

The food is great, the drinks are stiff and the staff is the best, despite their hat choices ;)

I love this bar– the only down side is that I live so far away from it. Also a bonus– my name is Gunner, so you can probably understand why I like this bar so much… The manhattans are great, the pork death sandwich is amazing, and it’s bar where you go to hang out with friends. If I wanted to drink and watch sports on TV, I’d stay home. Also nice is that the bar was named after a horse named Gunner, where as I was named after a dog. Coincidence? Yeah, Also probably a coincidence that I drink wine, a manhattan or a gimlet every night, and this place has those front and center on the menu. I don’t think it’s too much to think of this as «my bar.» This place has a subtle, simple class to it that makes me go and sign up for a Unilocal account. LOVE it. If you don’t then we couldn’t be friends anyway.

Very minimalist décor — dark wood and a few cool framed B&W chicago photos. No taps yet, but supposedly coming soon. Service was friendly, if a bit awkward. We had the chicken chipotle sandwich(okay; house-made chips should have maybe been hot) and burger with onion rings(very good). The sandwiches are small(about ½ — ¾ size of a normal sandwich), which is totally fine — i hate huge portions for the sake of huge portions — but should be noted on the menu. They did mention that when we ordered. All in all good new low-key option — will come back to try their cocktails, and hopefully they’ll have some good beers on tap too.
