This was a fun night club. I’m not sure if they are still open but I know most of their staff that made the place fun has started working at other places. The place was very big but it was always fun on the weekends & especially on Black Wednesday. The staff here was always really nice & friendly & added to the atmosphere. They took care of people who were repeat customers & made the place awesome. On of the best parts about this night club was they had a rooftop with a bar &DJ. It was one of the nicest roof tops of any night club I have been to. Whether this place is still open or not it was a fun place in its prime & I look forward to seeing something here again in the future.

Let me go on record that clubs are really not my thing. Every time I step into one with the swaying masses of humanity dancing to the thumping music, I wonder just what I am doing there. Griffin Lounge was no different. I went because there was a fundraiser there that a friend was hosting. I laughed when I saw the invitation as it was for a «young professionals» event. .. .. I wondered just where the«old professionals» would be hanging at this event and I found a smattering of us, tucked into the corners and all wondering just how long we needed to stay. Griffin Lounge is spacious with a multitude of rooms that keep the people flow moving so that it never felt overly crowded. Watch as you go from room to room, ladies, in your high heels, as there are elevation differences between the various rooms and several times I watched people stumble and fall(the worse is between the«griffin room» in the back and the main bar area) My favorite room was that«Griffin room» in the back. Soaring ceilings capped with a skylight, floor to ceiling scarf swags that lent an air of frivolity to the space and small seating clusters to sit and catch up. There is even a giant disco ball hanging from the ceiling to add some additional sparkle. And the artwork on the back wall of a woman on a griffin was almost three dimensional. Amazingly, the bar staff was calm, cool, efficient and friendly. As I pushed my way toward the bar I wondered just how they were dealing with all the people yelling orders at them, but they seemed to take it all in stride. And one bartender actually kept an eye out for me and had my drink at the ready whenever I was able to catch his eye. The DJ was spinning some really good music and kept the energy level of the place going. And people seemed to be having a good time, but again this was a special event night and I had no plans to still be there when the doors opened for the general public. I doubt I would have ventured in here had it not been for the fundraiser as I have seen the long lines of people trying to get in on a Saturday night and clubs are really not my thing. Also I understand that there is a $ 20 cover charge on weekends, which may be standard but seems like alot for a place that does not have live music. Interesting that this place, a place to meet others, is named after the legendary griffin. For as lore goes, a griffin, once it mates. .. . if it loses that mate…it will never mate again. It just struck me funny given the«interactions» that I saw as I stood in the corner with the other«old professionals»!

So a friend and I were really in the mood for salsa dancing so we go to Nacional 27. Then we find out it’s closed for a private party(on a Saturday night— must be some big shot!) and I asked the guy for his recommendation on an alternative and he mentioned the Griffin Lounge. I wish the recommendation didn’t come from somebody at N27 because this place doesn’t even come close! The clientele was ghetto and that’s being kind of me. All the lounge area had a «reserved» sign; I think they were hoping to attract people to bottle service but there’s no way I would trust a place with a bartender who didn’t even seem like she was old enough to drink. Well, she’s definitely not knowledgeable enough! I asked for their«specialty» drink and she said: «All we have on special are $ 7 patrón shots!» So I repeated myself: «I don’t want to know which drinks you have on sale, I want to know this place’s signature drink!» She said: «Well, we don’t really have one…» Lame! And the dancing — forget about it! They played cumbia most of the night, not salsa or anything else and no one was dancing and this was past midnight already so any hardcore salseros would have already been out. What a waste of $ 15 cover charge! Like previous reviewers mentioned — this place does not have the scene nor should you wanna be seen in!
