I was referred to Gregg by a friend and had high expectation. I knew exactly what I wanted in an engagement ring, had done my research & knew I could get what I wanted within my budget. First of all, it had taken over a week to get in touch with Gregg. I had called and left 3 messages before finally hearing back from him. He was great and easy to talk to and very knowledgeable. As soon as I mentioned my price, he shut down on me. Said that it was a small budget but he would see what he could come up with and get back to me. He NEVER got back to me. He had my phone number and my e-​mail address and I never heard anything. Not even a ‘I’m sorry but we cannot accommodate that price range’. I went somewhere else (in the same building) and got MORE than what I wanted, for even less than my budget! I’m sure Gregg would be great to work with if you are willing to spend a lot but if you are on a budget, check elsewhere!

When I used to envision the perfect ring for me, to fit my individual style and personality, the ring I dreamt of is the exact ring that was given to me by my fiancé in February 2009 and made by Gregg Helfer Ltd Private Jewelers. I wouldn’t change a single thing. I showed my fiancé a picture of a ring I liked worn by a certain celebrity, and when he proposed, I was looking at a ring just like the one I showed him but changed to fit my exact style. I can’t speak for my fiancé, but in hearing about his experience with Gregg Helfer, he was able to communicate exactly what he wanted and it was made into a reality. It’s obviously best to give yourself ample time, but Gregg Helfer was also able to create the ring in 4 weeks. I’m not bragging (okay maybe just a little), but when creating a ring with 89 diamonds, Gregg’s willingness to work with the time line my fiancé had shows his commitment to give his customers the best possible experience in every aspect, without sacrificing quality. Because of this I have contacted Gregg to make my fiancé’s wedding band. I wouldn’t go anywhere else!

Gregg and Michael are awesome. Legit quality and amazing service. They work with u to figure out what you want and get you the biggest bang for the buck. I was from out of town, found them on Unilocal,and got a wedding band (lost my old one woops) and a pair of diamond stud earrings as a constellation gift. Great price, great service and I’ll continue buying jewelry from them forever.

Extraordinary service if I may say. I asked Gregg to help me find an exquisite ring for my partner. This was supposed to be a surprise gift for her for our anniversary. I don’t know how to find the best one for her, so I asked for his assistance and expertise just to make sure I’d get a ring that would surely impress and amaze my partner.
Gregg delivered his service with utmost politeness and high quality service. He was very detailed and was more than happy to discuss and listen to my specifics and exchange opinions with me. Yes, I was able to find a perfect ring for my partner, so I paid for it, thanked Gregg and went on my way.
When my partner received the ring, she shed some tears of happiness. That shows how perfect the ring was. But when she tried it on, the ring’s size wasn’t right. It was my mistake and not Gregg’s. So the next day, I phoned him and told him about what happened. Good thing, resizing was not a problem. I dropped the ring and after two days, the ring was ready.
Honestly, the word «perfect» is not enough to describe the service.

I love bling. How can you not love bling? My niece loves bling too.
I told this child she could not have a car, I told her she could not have a YSL Muse bag (sheesh, I can’t even afford one of those). So when she asked about a necklace, I thought, «okay, that could be doable».
Well, thanks to Gregg Helfer Ltd, I am now done with my Christmas shopping. In fact, this probably includes her birthday gift through 2014. But my niece is truly her «Aunt’s niece» and happily she picked a gift that will keep on giving.
Yep, she wanted a «soft paw». Since I had no clue, she elaborated. Helfer Jewelers teamed with the unbelievably successful PAWS Chicago with a charitable giveback assortment of pretty pendants. (And yes, I know you are saying, «oh Gemma, how did you hit this one?»)
I got her the Soft Paw pendant and in doing so 30% of the purchase price will benefit PAWS Chicago. Even though I may be suffering from sticker shock, my gift list is small enough that I could make her happy and still help the creatures.
It is a lovely piece and this was my first experience with Gregg Helfer Ltd. I know my future veterinarian niece will keep and remember this gift long after I’m gone; and that’s another part of Holiday magic and memories that will always last.

DO NOT ORDER ONLINE! it took almost 3 WEEKS for FREE UPS OVERNIGHT shipping. Then Mr. Helfer said he would hand deliver the earrings if I did not receive them before my 10yr Anniversary… RIGHT!!! I thought he would, since I live right in Chicago. Boy, was this the worse online service ever.
Nice earrings, but go in person. Unless you order 1month ahead of time.

Gregg custom made my engagement ring and he also did our wedding bands.
Not only are all 3 items absolutely flawless… Gregg is amazing himself! So funny, so nice! Doesn’t matter if your budget is 100 or 100,000… he’ll figure out a way to make it work without being pushy.
I will never go anywhere else for jewelry… I don’t recommend you do either!

The Cartier watch I had my heart set on for my 30^th bday/​push present was a bit out of our budget. OK, way out of our budget unless our daughter-​to-​be doesn’t wear clothes for 10 years. My husband told me he’d be happy to get it for me, but I’d have to forfeit all bday presents until my 40^th bday. Riigghhhht.
I like presents so I resorted to plan B, which was to email every highly Unilocaled jeweler in Chicago and even some in my hometown of Boca Raton, FL. I sent along a picture of the watch I wanted (the santos demoiselle with diamonds) and asked who would be able to get me the stainless steel version for the best price.
I heard back from a few jewelers, but Gregg Helfer was by far the most responsive. He also came back with the most competitive price and I felt he was trustworthy since a good friend had just purchased her gorgeous engagement and wedding bands from him. Weeks later my hubby picked up my gorgeous new watch from Gregg and I absolutely love it!
While I never met Gregg besides phone/​email, I did have the chance to meet his brother Michael a few times in their store. He was also an absolute pleasure and even took out my extra watch links for me yesterday within 5 minutes. Gotta love speedy service!
My only concern throughout the entire process was that Gregg was never able to give me a firm price until after the watch was ready. During one of our initial phone calls he estimated a price that I was happy with; however, when I received the invoice it was $ 700 more than he had quoted me. To Gregg’s credit (and the reason why this is a 5 star business) he brought down the price minutes after I addressed the issue. While it all worked out, it always makes me a bit nervous to not know the exact price of something from the beginning… especially when jewelery is involved!
Overall, I had a fabulous experience and can’t stop staring at my beautiful new watch. Next time I won’t have to waste my time emailing dozens of jewelers. I“ll just pick up the phone to call Gregg!

Gregg Helfer is without a doubt the greatest jeweler in the city. When it came time to buy an engagement ring, he was patient and thoughtful with all of his advice. I never felt any pressure to go one way vs. another. Another reason Gregg is so wonderful is his commitment to customer satisfaction. Once the ring was given to my fiancée, he wanted to make sure she was happy too. She appreciated this to no end and is it’s a testament to how he runs his business.
In addition to Gregg’s services, his brother Michael was always very timely with his emails, phone calls and pictures as the process carried on. His friendly nature and commitment to customer satisfaction was also top notch.
We just picked out our wedding bands and I know we will be going back here for years.

i’ve been using gregg for years, and i not only know his prices are more than fair for stones/​settings, but he knows how to put up with people like me who are very ‘particluar’ we’ll call it. i know what i like, i know what i want and i trust only gregg to get it to me w/​o killing me first! we’ve done many pieces together (great custom work) and will do many, many more i am sure! i will refer him to anyone and everyone, and that’s not easy for me to say!
