I don’t complain much. I’ve worked in retail before and understand its not pleasant. But this was one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve had. I would give zero stars if possible. I live in the building. I had a skirt altered at Grand Cleaners. The left side is about half an inch or three quarters inch shorter than the right. It was noticeable to people without me mentioning it. I spoke with two people at Grand Cleaners. The first acknowledged that the alteration was not properly done, but she didn’t have the authority to do anything. The second person I spoke with refused to admit their was anything wrong with the skirt, pulling the fabric down on the left side to show that it could be the right length if pulled. She blamed the material instead of the alterations. I tried to be calm and nice about it, stating that mistakes happen and that I would like at least a partial refund. When I tried to leave she continued to argue with me that she wouldn’t make a mistake but the fabric cannot be altered to the same length all around, and that if you just pull the fabric it is fine. Who walks around pulling the bottom of their skirt down? It isn’t possible. Worst experience with a dry cleaner I’ve ever had. I would have been fine with a simple apology, but the arguing about whether it was in fact shorter(as everyone else said was obvious) or if the fabric was inherently flawed was not good customer service. I would not recommend letting Grand Cleaners do anything with your clothes. They are in my building but I still outsource dry cleaning because the women who work here are so stubborn. In addition, Grand Cleaners also takes care of the package pickup for our building. The same week that I had the awful skirt experience, I had another bad experience with package pickup. On Tuesday I picked up two packages that had been delivered. When I got back to my apartment, I realized one of the packages was for the wrong unit – it wasn’t mine. No problem, things happen. So I took it back down the next day and pointed out the mistake. I asked if I had another package that I was supposed to receive, since the computer had said two packages for my unit on Tuesday, but only one that I picked up was mine. She said no, no package. I then realized on Thursday that another package had been delivered. I called to talk to them and had to spend over five minutes with them telling them I had another package that I can see online was delivered and signed for. She continued to tell me there was no package because the computer they enter information into did not say a package was there. Then, when I finally convinced her to look, she came back on the line and the package WAS there. So I went in that afternoon and had to repeat the entire conversation, because they were certain if a package was there it would be in the computer – they apparently don’t believe they can make mistakes. I finally got my package after having to explain it to them multiple times. The woman in charge at Grand Cleaners is stubborn and has no customer service skills. She does not believe she can make mistakes and she forces confrontation by not listening to her customers. I would not recommend them for anything.

I wish I went almost anywhere but here — and I would give this place ZERO stars if possible. My boyfriend and I recently moved back to Chicago from Denver and we’ve been staying in corporate housing a couple blocks from Grand Cleaners, so naturally I was pumped about the convenience of the location because carrying 18 garments on hangers is tough! I should have known this was going to be an ordeal when I tried to explain that I didn’t live in the building and it was CRUCIAL to get these garments quickly. I brought them in on Monday, and she promised Wednesday at 3pm they would be ready. Ok I can handle an extra day. As we were counting the items, she counted 16 and I counted 18… so after pointing it out to her(I think she was the owner) instead of adjusting the number in the system, she takes a permanent marker to my ticket and changes the amount of items– hmmmm? Pointed it out and she insisted everything would be fine. Red flag — probably my fault, but it gets worse. I go in Wednesday at 6(3 hours after I was told I could pick the items up) and they weren’t ready. Go figure, but my boyfriend and I were RELYING on this dry cleaning we were living out of a hotel. She PROMISED I could come by noon on Thursday. Ok I’ll wear something dirty to work, its one day. Its Thursday… I call first to make sure I can pick it up — still not ready — she said come after 5 pm. Ok fine. I get there at 5:30 and our 16 items vs 18 items becomes a real issue. ONEGARMETISMISSING and I see it attached to someones dry cleaning! I know it was mine because it was a BCBG Bridesmaids dress with a specific pattern in a size 6 — and quickly I thought maybe someone else has it? But what were the odds of someone with THAT brand dress, in THAT size, in THAT dry cleaners at the SAME time in a bundle RIGHT next to mine. Yeah right, and after reading the other review with gaining a mystery tank top — I knew it was their mistake. And since our ticket numbers didn’t match I had to throw a total fit to get that $ 300 dress back. So our 16 vs 18 items discrepancy cost me $ 92 dollars(12 items were men’s shirts). WHAT. I know I just moved from Denver but you mean to tell me I’m giving you close to 100 bucks for miscounting, giving me the wrong date(2x), missing items and being completely rude and unapologetic? How does a BUSINESSOWNER not understand customer service or simply doing SOMETHING to better the situation? She did discount $ 10 — gee thanks. Then she has the nerve to say, «You come back I give you 10% off.» Oh yeah? I’ll pass. If you live in the building it might be a different story, but if you don’t — save your pocketbook and your closet by going absolutely anywhere else.

Quality dry cleaners. They’ve always cleaned all of my stuff well and do pretty good alterations /repairs. They’ve also been able to get a few difficult stains out for me. All of the clothes get sent off site, so if you need something in a rush this probably isn’t the best place to send your clothes. The only thing about this place that gives me pause is that I don’t think they do the best job of keeping track of clothes. For example, I once got back a tank top that wasn’t mine, so definitely make sure you count all of your pieces when you drop your clothes off and when you pick them up.
