Stopped here for lunch the other afternoon on my own. While my food was pretty good, the service was very cold and made me feel unwelcomed. I usually don’t read too much into off service since I have worked in the industry before but this was pretty bad. Not one word was said to me while ordering and my plate was slammed on the table when delivered. I really wanted to like this place, it’s super cute, reasonably priced and the menu looks great. Maybe I will try their other location on Ravenswood and hopefully get better service.

An absolute gem! I’ll never tire of First Slice Pie. The pies are carefully crafted to perfection by attentive staff — everything from the infamous chocolate peanut butter pie to the cherry pie to the French silk pie is unmatchable by local competitors. Also, you can’t beat the price! A friend and I had a rather rough experience somewhere else just before arriving at First Slice Pie one night, and the woman behind the counter was so incredibly cheerful and wanting us to have a delightful time. She asked us to try our first bites of pie at the counter to make sure we looked genuinely satisfied… and we were(and have been every time we’ve come back)! Make sure to visit the lovely shop connected to First Slice Pie as well!

I love these alternative places because their are very often — very good and very affordable. I had a cappuccino and my wife had a mocha and slice of one of their pies. It was great!

Cozy and welcoming place. They make homemade pies. I had a French silk pie that was delicious! It had the right amount of sweetness. The coffee mocha I had came in a very cool mug! Price is great too!

FUCKTHISPLACE. Seriously, they turned me away 15 minutes before closing when all I wanted was a slice of pie. I’ve would have been fired for trying to pull that at any of the food service places I have ever worked. I could see it maybe if I had wanted something complicated or messy but one slice of pie? Cleaning that knife would have made them get home so much later? I know people bitch a lot on Unilocal but seriously, I have never encountered anything like that in my life. What is the point of having a closing time if they just stop taking simple orders whenever they feel like it’s time to go home and watch some Netflix. It’s freakin pi day — 3÷14÷16. Give me a slice of pie you horrible people!

I adventured all the way up to the far North side, beyond Devon Ave, to the part of the city where the grid breaks down and I no longer recognize whether I’m in Chicago or Skokie, or even which way is the lake. It was a journey to hang with my friend Whitney, to go to Target and bring her cat to the vet with my car. We stopped for lunch at café that came recommended for its pie. Not that I was up late the night before obsessing over pie in my pajamas… OK I was. I really wanted some pie. First Slice Pie Café puts out an excellent slice. Based on my friend’s Southern background, we shared a huge slice of French Silk. The chocolate mousse was silky as advertised. To balance the sweet with the savory, we shared a ham sandwich with melted Wisconsin cheddar and sundried tomato. I love how soft(yet still toasty warm) the bread it came on was. Thank you internet for a great recommendation for pie! My name is Arthur and I’m a pie addict.

3 words: PEANUTBUTTERPIE! This is hands down one of the best pies I have ever had. I especially like that I cab buy a «mini» pie version for a very reasonable price. I have tried a few other kinds of their pies, and wasn’t a fan… but this little slice of heaven always keeps me coming back!

Great pie & coffee. Reasonably priced compared to other pie places and you get a delicious huge slice of pie. I had the french silk pie and it was delicious. Not overly sweet like most french silk pies, the chocolate was made with cocoa, you can tell by the taste. Paired it with a café au lait which was fresh and delicious. The staff was warm and welcoming. I will be back to try other pies! Will up it to a 5 star once I try other pies!

Maybe I frequent more cozy cafes, but I like going to ones with comfy couches, a warm atmosphere, décor, etc. First Slice still felt nice. It’s on the smaller size, but it gets pretty decent traffic of people coming in and out, and people sitting and working. My boyfriend and I really enjoy coming to Andersonville and decided to come here after dinner to grab some dessert and to read before heading home. I got the chocolate, raspberry cheesecake and he got the apple pie– both were so good. I especially liked the cheesecake because it tasted light and had the perfect amount of sweetness.

My husband and I stopped in at First Slice Pie Café after dinner one night. My husband had some kind of fruit pie(I can’t remember – maybe cherry? That seems right). I had the french silk pie, which is objectively the best kind of pie. The pie was really, really good. I also had a decaf espresso with a little milk in it, which was a total highlight too. It tasted so good next to the sweetness of the pie, and it made for a delicious dessert. I would totally go back here!

Stopped in on a whim for dessert after dinner at another restaurant and was very pleasantly surprised with the raspberry pear balsamic pie which I would highly recommend.

Charming place with good people, hence a 3 instead of a 2. Pie was ok. Tea was fine. Table was really sticky… so much so my napkins stock to the table. BangBang Pie is much much better.

Bomb @ss pies. $ 3.50 might be steep for a piece of pie, but haven’t you paid he same for a cupcake? I think the street price of a cupcake is $ 7.00 these days PIE greater than Cupcake The French Silk makes a great late-night snack and their apple pie will conjure up thoughts of fall and the holidays anytime of year.

The chocolate raspberry cheesecake will bring me back again and again. With a quaint atmosphere and cashiers who are just the right amount of snooty for working in a pie shop, I’d still probably get my pie to go. I’m intrigued by the sandwiches. But mostly the cheesecake.

There are way too many bakeries in this city that get carried away with niche pastries and«creative» new desserts that fail to do the one thing dessert is supposed to do: make you smile. First Slice does pie and they do it well! Their cherry pie is stellar. It’s roll your eyes back in your head good. I only get one slice at a time because I know if I get a full pie I’ll eat the whole thing in one sitting. I am not a fan of balsamic vinegar – especially in desserts – but I tried the balsamic pear pie and it was really pretty good. I probably won’t get it again but I was impressed. Pie is the reason to go here but they do a few other things well. The quiche is very good. It’s thickly sliced and rich the way quiche is supposed to be when you make it at home. Everything tastes like its homemade. I seriously think they might have somebody’s grandma chained up in the back making pies. I’ve also had a ham sandwich from First Slice. It was crazy good. The cheese was rich and hearty and the ham was warm and really high quality. Go for lunch and stay for dessert! The best part is that I live so close I can go get a full picnic then bring it home to have with wine.

OMGAH yes! I finally got the chance to stop by first slice pie and it was a great experience. Such a cute little boutique with yummy goodies. Upon arrival, we were greeted by an energetic cashier girl and she made sure if we needed any assistance, she was there to help. There were so many selections to choose from but we ended up getting a slice of blueberry cheesecake and chocolate peanut butter. I personally love the blueberry cheese cake pie and it was so delicious I wanted to have more. Surprisingly, the blueberry did not overpower the taste of the pie and it was amazing. It’s a great cozy sweet treat shop. Pies weren’t the only thing that they sold. There was many other great treats as well.

I’ll preface this review with the fact that I prefer a lighter flavor profile, and this extends to desserts as well – I tend to like less sweet desserts or desserts where the sweet is well balanced with bitter or sour flavors. I got two slices of pie – one, the famous Michigan cherry, and the other, the raspberry balsamic with pear. I thought both of them were far too sweet; so much in fact, that I couldn’t have more than one tiny bite of each without breaking up the sweetness with coffee. I was expecting both to have a bit of a tang and was especially disappointed to find that the raspberry balsamic/pear pie came off as a raspberry only pie. I was also pretty disappointed with the crust; perhaps I had let it sit for too long since I had it to-go, but the crust was on the thin side and lacked the buttery flakiness that’s typical at other pie shops. Quite disappointed – friendly service and cute shop, but just way too much sugar in the pies for me.

Cute place! Good pie, ok coffee, and an extensive lunch menu. Barista seemed stand-offish, but it’s to be expected at local coffee shops. I got a small coffee and a «coffee-toffee» slice. Coffee was ok, and they have 50 cent refills, which is good. Coffee-toffee was a slight misnomer: it was more like a mocha-French silk pie. It seemed like the only toffee was sprinkled lightly on the top, but that was about it. That being said, it was REALLY good! The pie’s consistency was thick and creamy, and the chocolate and coffee flavors were deep and delicious. Although I just got pie and coffee, their lunch options look soooo good! Curry chicken salad, Chicago vegetarian sandwich, mango jicama salad – the variety of options and flavors look great! Can’t wait to come back to try more pie and some non-pie options!

Must have: French silk First Slice is fantastic. In addition to having great pie choices, they also have a large sandwich and coffee shop menu if you were stopping in for a meal. They space is light and airy and has wifi, but is too popular and small to use as a coffee shop to work in. Each pie slice is $ 3.50(full pies are available for takeout and range from $ 20-$ 25) and rich enough to split and be satisfied. Why would you want to split a piece of Fresh Slice pie though? So I got to sample two between the Bf and I. The French Silk was fantastic! And I am not even a huge chocolate person! It had a slim crust and ample chocolate filling and cream topping. The filling was not a generic chocolate taste, but had the richness and depth of a good dark chocolate. The French Silk is a blue ribbon pie if there was one. I also had the chocolate peanut butter pie. Mounds if creamy peanut butter nested in a chocolate cracker crust. So rich, you need to accompany it with some milk or coffee to break up the peanut butter. Both pies were fantastic, but I would have loved a little more crust to filling ratio. That’s a personal thang though, because I think the crust is the best part.

First Slice Pie Café is an adorable little shop on the corner that if you blink, you might just miss it. Thought I’d start this review with an overused cliché for all you folks out there in cyberland. It really is a cute café though with many selections for pastries. Being a pie shop and all, I had a funny feeling pie was what they did best. So I took a risk and got just that. I had a slice of the Peanut Butter Chocolate pie. It was reasonably priced and looked a bit different than how I would normally imagine a pie of such a name. The crust was chocolate with an overloaded completely peanut buttery filling with a thin layer of chocolate on the top and what seemed to be crushed peanuts on top of that. It was rich and decadent… and I love peanut butter & chocolate to no end… but it was just too much peanut butter & not enough chocolate. It was good but to put it plainly I’ve had better. I tried my friend’s after she had a bit and wanted no more. I agreed with her that it wasn’t impressive. Meh. With so many pie shops in the city that blow my mind, I don’t see much reason in coming back here outside of the convenience factor.
