Service was outstanding and relaxed. No one is moving around with distress; I recommend eating here when you have a good morning to ease into the day. I came for breakfast and asked for coffee. They had the French press coffee self served. I had three to four cups of delicious coffee. My friend had the almond tea and it was fantastic. If I rated solely on the chalkboard special it would be 5 stars. Unfortunately, I ordered the every spice waffles with the fruit. Fresh fruits but the waffles had no surprising or unique flavor. Just an average floppy waffle. I will have to strongly recommend sticking with the chalkboard outside. Absolutely awesome choice

The restaurant is a small local joint. Very friendly with a nice friendly ambiance. There selections of tea and french press coffee are nice(sourced from intelligentsia and benjamin’s). Had a wonderful chalkboard special, Cajun macaroni with chicken and andouille sausage. The food was flavorful with good portion sizes. Loved the staff and location.

Absolutely wonderful experience. Cute and cozy place with wonderful service. I am always apprehensive about dining out with twin 7 month olds because people tend to be less then friendly when I walk in with two babies. They were extremely accommodating down to boiling some hot water so I could heat bottles. The service was fast and friendly and the food was delicious. I would definitely recommend this place and would gladly return.

Complete discombobulation. Terrible service, mediocre food, and a cold door draft make this choice the wrong one. Do yourselves a favor and walk down the street to anywhere else.

I love the inside! It’s so cute! We don’t live too close so probably won’t frequent too much. What we had was good though. My salmon and capers and sour cream was different but really tasty. Why only three starts? Such a limited menu. I really had only 2 things that I sorta kinda wanted and the salmon was one of them. I think if we lived closer we would be back… the food was good… and it was pretty cheap for the selections…

The décor is cute and relaxed feeling but I’m having a hard time finding other things that I like about it. The waitstaff was pretty inattentive and seemed more interested in joking with each other than waiting tables. Tables are left dirty, nasty floors. The food was completely blah– cold potatoes, flavorless breakfast sandwich with zero spice and bland waffle with a few pieces of fruit. Noise from the kitchen was louder than anyone else in the restaurant and we could hear them complain that they had to make the smoothie we ordered one. No one checked back to see how things were until they dropped the check. Too bad, it looks so cute!

Why is this place not busier? Yummmmm. Fennel & Iris was the very gracious host of a bridesmaids’ brunch for my friend a couple of weeks ago! We all rolled in shortly before noon on a Friday, and were surprised to see that we were the only guests there(much to the amusement of the maid of honor who had called to change the time of our rezzie about 12 times). Anyway, the place is completely adorable… cozy and kind of antique-looking. The menu is not huge, but offers a nice variety of fresh, tasty items. I chose the scrambled eggs, potatoes, and toast, and modified it to egg whites sans onions. My friend the bride ordered the everything nice waffles and we shared so that we could enjoy the cherished sweet-and-salty brunch experience. Our food came out pretty quickly, and we all dug in. My scrambled egg whites were really good, fluffy and with fresh veggies, though a touch overkill on the cheese. And my friend’s waffle was perfect texture and just sweet enough. Our waitress was attentive and helpful throughout the experience, and no one minded that we hogged our space for almost two girly hours, even when more customers began showing up. Great brunch spot, perfect ambiance! If I lived here, it would be one of my faves for sure. Thanks to Fennel & Iris :)

Really cute and small local spot. We came here on a Friday for brunch. I got the pesto blt and my bf got the tuna melt. The food was good although the portions were a little bit small.

Quaint place with tasty food and very affordable prices. Seemingly secret yet highly complimentary spices create unique sensations on your pallet. Overall some mind blowing taste explosions of flavor definitely happening here. Great service; feels like you’re eating at Grandma Jean’s cottage. Even the price is very nice! Grab some(deliciousssss) free cookies, throw your French press-brewed intelligencia coffee in a to go cup and hit the road. I approve.

Cute little brunch spot that is nicely decorated. The menu is simple and won’t overwhelm you w/a ton of choices. I came here for brunch w/3 others. I ordered the Herbed Tuna Salad Sandwich. It was a good sandwich — it wasn’t mind-blowing, but it was very comforting. The place is also BYOB, and they’ll chill your champagne for you(cold champagne on deck is key when you’re having mimosas!). The food came out quick, the wait staff is friendly, and it’s a nice relaxing environment. All in all, a cute little restaurant w/solid food.

My sister hosted my Bridal Shower(Private Party) here and I have to say it was amazing. We decorated the place just as we wanted and the owner was very flexible. The food was fresh and delicious and the presentation was great. She packed up all our left overs at the end of the night. She even let the bride to be who is a chef go back in the kitchen and help cook.

So I went here for a private event, a baby shower. All I can say is wow. The place looked great, the staff was super amazing and responsive and the food was done beautifully. From the moment we walked in everyone was attentive and helpful. The décor was excellent and it was just a great atmosphere in general. I would definitely consider having an event here and look forward to going back and trying their regular menu.

Came for brunch on Sunday ~11am. Plenty of seating. Complimentary bottle of water served in cute mason jar glasses. Seating is choice between antique or so rickety it seems homemade. As others have said, the French press coffee is delicious. The brunch menu is quite limited, you won’t find eggs Benedict for instance. The scrambled eggs, offered optionally as white only, were delicious. Bacon was perfectly made. And the fruit was fresh whole cut clementines, grapes, and bananas. Well done! Service, while kind, was inattentive and unprofessional. Nothing to complain about though. The atmosphere is quite good, and I would do it again, but it is a humble little local place for brunch, so set expectations accordingly. The good outweighs the bad, and the highlights are strong enough to tip this place to four from three stars.

Wish I could give you a review for the food, but the disorganization of the wait staff and kitchen prevented that from happening. Waited for a table because the person who greeted us said 10 – 15 minutes. We waited an hour in a back room full of Junk, then finally left . Tip to the restaurant: toss the junk and put more tables in the back so you can serve more people. This restaurant is a little pretentious for a hipster hang out. FYI: ended up going to the North Down around the corner on Lincoln, also a solid spot with great serve, good food and a solid drink menu

My husband and I recently had our wedding at Fennel & Iris, and it was amazing! We were the first people to get married there, and I can’t believe how good of a job Kathy and the staff did. Kathy was SO wonderful to work with — she listened to every idea that we had and made it all happen! She let us decorate the space however we wanted, and she provided candles and flowers for the tables that made the space completely magical. The space itself is so cool and gorgeous — the brick wall, the long wooden table, and the mismatched tables and chairs all flow together so well. Kathy set it up with rows of chairs and an aisle for our ceremony, and then flipped the space to be set up with tables for our cocktail hour and dinner. The food was AMAZING. The appetizers were fabulous — my mother in law said that she«embarrassed herself» by eating so half a dozen of the zucchini cakes. We had a winter root vegetable soup, quinoa salad, and choices of orange crusted tilapia or chicken or a veggie dish for the entrée. Many of our guests complimented the food. Kathy was also so flexible with the dinners — we had two children at our wedding who are picky eaters, and Kathy prepared a separate entrée for the two of them. The cost our of wedding was totally reasonable — $ 100 an hour to rent the space, and $ 26 per person for the dinner and appetizers that we chose. In that cost is also included coffee, tea, and pop. We brought our own alcohol which saves SO much money at a wedding, and Kathy was happy to let us bring in our wedding cake from an outside bakery. All in all, if you’re looking to have a small wedding(we had 30 people and we fit perfectly) in a beautiful space at a reasonable cost with a wonderful, flexible, kind person to help plan it, then call Kathy and book it at Fennel & Iris!

I recently checked out Fennel & Iris for lunch on a weekday. I live in the neighborhood and pass it often so finally went in. It’s a super cozy, home-y restaurant serving a small lunch menu that tastes like your mom is in the kitchen. I ordered a butternut squash soup and a tuna sandwich. Both were tasty– nothing mind blowing, just good. It is a great spot to grab a bite with a friend casually and it’s BYOB which is nice. It looks like a cute spot for small parties like a baby or bridal shower lunch/brunch. They do dinners once a month so I’ll update my review after checking that out!

My friends and I planned a bridal shower at Fennel & Iris. The owner was easy to work with and let us know what we could/couldn’t bring into the venue. We had to choose non-food favors in the end as they wouldn’t allow us to bring outside food in. However, they did allow us to bring our own booze for a mimosa bar where they provided the juices. We were able to decorate how we wanted, I even posted some pictures to show off our skills. We hung baby photos from their wire lines above the table. And we positioned table runner like photos as well. The décor of the venue is adorable, artsy, and eclectic. I loved it and it only enhanced the atmosphere. Best part is the food! We had the strata, open faced veggie sandwiches, fruit and goat cheese, deviled eggs, and chocolate waffles. Everyone enjoyed our choice in menu. This venue would be a great spot for any kind of intimate event. If you want something that you’ll remember please call their number.

This adorable restaurant was just a dream. I would love to host a small party or sit and enjoy more amazing coffee and relax a little with some breakfast or lunch. So the ambiance has me hooked, a little more seasoning on the food and the food will have me hooked too! We started with the french press coffee, delightful. I ordered the toasted cheddar sandwich with ham, it was quite tasty. I got a side of bacon with it, because I love bacon, it was a little chewy but good. My friend had the stuffed breakfast sandwich with potatoes. It was the cutest and coolest presentation of a sandwich I have ever seen. The only issue was that the potatoes had very little to no seasoning and the sandwich was bland until she reached the very bottom where the sauce was all located. I would not order the sandwich again, but there are a few other items on the menu that I am looking forward to trying. This little restaurant reminding me of my dream of opening an antiques store… a chic one, of course.
