So I have a really old grey stone in the Bronzeville area. The boiler — which has served me well for over 21 years — finally began leaking last spring. I thought I would be able to have it welded to get through one or two more winters.(It’s never a good time for a boiler to go out.) It was finally determined that the boiler needed to be replaced, and the sooner the better. Who wants to be boiler-less in Chicago in the winter? I called several companies — large and small, known and unknown, reviewed and not reviewed — and got four estimates.(A couple of those estimates could satisfy the national debt!) The range was truly incredible. One guy took a look at my dinosaur, shook his head and just left. Expedience came out(James), and seemed to relish the challenge! James came out a second time to snap pics, and make a few additional inquiries. A week later, his crew removed the old boiler one day, and replaced it with a high efficiency newer model the next. When I say they worked all day, took their time, ensured the unit was running properly(even when I was exhausted because it was late in the evening), I kid you not. They laughed a lot, and genuinely seem to really enjoy what they do. This is a family business, and skills are being passed down from one generation to the next, which is quite rare these days. So far, all is good. The unit is running well — and just in time for winter — and I anticipate no issues. The only thing that could have happened better was communication. Some professionals behave as though everyone knows and understands everything about their profession. I know nothing about boilers and have no interest in learning. So you have to ask very pointed questions to get the information you want. James is very knowledgeable about this business and will answer anything — you just have to probe. I also do not like it when service professionals do not properly cover and clean. As the boiler business is quite messy, Expedience should invest in some inexpensive plastic drop cloths and cover everything from the door they enter, all the way to the work area. I will be cleaning up the floor for a very long time. But all-in-all, a really good experience and did I mention the price was a great value for the work involved? I will use this company again — barring any major issues with the new unit…
