It’s dangerous that this place is a short walk from home. I like how they only serve doughnuts and coffee for 2 hours before brunch service, making it easy to drop in for a quick bite or grab a few on the way home. The menu rotates and features doughnuts and doughscuits, which are doughnuts split in the middle with a cream filling. The size is not overwhelming. I really liked the honey glazed doughscuit followed by the salted caramel. The bacon maple one was just okay. I also liked the strata — a savory muffin-like pastry. This morning I tried the carrot, turnip, garlic confit with parmesan. Sooo yummy with a savory, crunchy muffin top! That’s how I’m going to feel like tomorrow.

That sort-of-crispy honey donut that’s cut in half… with crème fraîche in the middle? SOGOOD. The service doesn’t leave much to be desired, but that doesn’t impact my love for this donut. I’m also surprised«size» seems to be a complaint… one bite bigger and I’d probably be in a sugar-induced coma.

Enoch’s Doughnuts in based inside of Endgrain at 1851 W. Addison. It has been subject to lot of hype surrounding gourmet donuts, which are also premium priced at $ 3 each. Earlier this week, my wife, her sister and I carried out a raspberry jelly donut and a mocha nut doughnut. I LOVE raspberry donuts. This one was reasonably tasty, but like all of Enoch’s doughnuts, was small. It had insufficient jelly and was hardly the wow experience I expected. I would have enjoyed an average jelly donut from an average bakery at an average price more. As for mocha nut? There was a bitterness to the donut. All of us had bites but none of us wanted to finish it. In a previous visit, we had the signature bacon butterscotch donut, which we liked. However, we wouldn’t come back for it. For the same $ 3, the maple bacon sticky bun at Interurban bakery is not only better but bigger. We also had a carrot cake donut, which I thought was adequate but small and my wife didn’t like it. So, we have had 4 donuts here, and wouldn’t repeat any of them.

Chicago has tons of gourmet donut spots and Enoch’s Doughnuts is the latest addition to the list. Integrated into Endgrain just off Addison Brown you can stop by as early as 7 on your morning commute to pick up something sweet. Since it was National Donut Day I figured I would forgo my standard Doughnut Vault and try something new. All the donuts are $ 3 and $ 3.29 with tax. While they have unique flavors(bacon butterscotch, nutella milk stout, carrot cake, and more) they are pretty darn small. I understand they are a bit fancier than your standard donuts but I don’t think they are worth it. Especially when compared to the giant glazed donuts you can get at Doughnut vault for $ 3(tax included). My bacon butterscotch as delightfully sticky and tasted great with the first bite but it also seemed to have a bit of a burnt sugar aftertaste. I’d say Enoch’s is a nice addition if you live out by the Brown line but not worth a special trip like.
