A good beer selection, great English beers, good children’s menu but rather boring food. Shepard pie was a small portion, my wife thought it looked like dog food. Her fish and chips were good, but only one piece. They need bigger portions or lower prices, it’s easier to increase portions.

This is my general lunch spot whenever I’m in the Loop. I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad meal here. They have their own take on some of the food menu items, but their fish and chips, my usual go-to lunch, is about the same as you’d get at any pub in England: one solid piece of cod over a bed of chips. It would be nice if they had Sarson’s vinegar as opposed to Heinz, but that probably has more to do with the supplier than the restaurant. I suppose a snobby pedant could complain about it, but I’m not up for spending a whole day sampling different types of malt vinegar to see which one tastes best. It’s vinegar. Put it on your chips and shut the hell up. The beer selection parallels their image as a British pub. Fuller’s London Pride and Well’s Bombardier are regulars on the hand pump cask which you don’t often see at most other places. They even have Theakston’s Old Peculier in bottles which I didn’t even know was available in this country until I saw it here. As far as the décor goes, yep, that’s pretty much what a British pub looks like.

Came here for dinner last night since my boyfriend and I wanted a quick bite to eat somewhere nearby. I was surprised at how big the interior was and how cozy it all felt especially with the fire place going. We were seated in a booth and were told the specials of the day. I ordered the curried chicken flat bread which was surprisingly delicious. It had spices of a tandoori chicken flavor with goat cheese, onions, spicy yogurt and chili flakes. My boyfriend ordered the fish tacos which were very flavorful especially with the added hot sauce that came with the dish. I highly recommend these dishes if you ever happen upon Elephant and Castle. The service however wasn’t that great, our waitress only came by a few times, didn’t really do much and never refilled any of our glasses of water but we weren’t there for too long anyways. There is also an extensive beer list for anyone interested which is always a plus. I look forward to trying the butter chicken next time!

So I used to really like this place… last couple of times not so much. No one like cold fries and warm beer… the first time, I will assume it was a mistake the second time, I doubt you all together. I still go in for a drink from time to time — so I am not doggin’ the joint — but if I am not stuck waiting on a train at 10 p.m. then I am not motivated to go in here ever.

Perfect place to enjoy as cold winter evening in Chicago, our waitress Liz was so much fun, so sweet & so skilled in her bar knowledge and food recommendations. The service, food quality and ambiance far exceeded my expectations. Bravo to the kitchen staff for blowing my mind of a delicious meal, the Cream of Mushroom soup, the stuffed Yorkshire Pudding was better than what I have had in London.

Excellent fish and chips, nuff said, especially for a removed Brit. Service on a Friday night was to be expected, not hovering but around when needed and didn’t forget our several repeated drink orders considering how busy it was. We are returning on Monday night for trivia and more beer.

What a fun place to stumble upon! My friend and I were looking for a restaurant to grab dinner in the area, so we decided to give Elephant & Castle a try. Definitely a pretty standard British pub-in-America type of place in terms of atmosphere. It had been a long day, and chicken fingers and wine felt like the perfect remedy, so that was my order. The food was good but nothing extraordinary, and my friend felt the same way about the fish tacos that she ordered. The real treat of the night was the fact that they do Monday night trivia. It was a fun complement to our meal, even though the categories were crazy random(prison movies, really?) Anyway, though, this was a good, fairly priced spot in a busy part of town, and I plan on coming back for sure.

Came in today with my boyfriend and Two of his buddies. Conveniently located near the train; street parking was a pain and we ended up parking in the neighboring self-paid-parking lot $ 38. Next time we’ll take the train. We got there a little after 2:30 and seemed like they weren’t too busy. This being my first visit here, I really took my time reading through their menu. The menu is pretty packed with all sorts of options! Me being vegetarian it was nice to see that they had friendly options for me! My Boyfriend and one of his buddies had an Indian dish, the Butter Chicken, which they loved. I was a little jealous, since I love Indian food. I ended up ordering the House Made Veggie Burger and my boyfriend’s other buddy had a Standard Burger as well. We didn’t have to wait too long for our food and everything was pretty great! I was honestly hoping for a wow factor but it was pretty typical and nothing that special, it was still great! Everyone seemed to enjoy their meal, empty plates all around and no complaints! I’m definitely intrigued by their menu and inclined to come back and try something else! The service was pretty good, our server was attentive and brought us refills often. I definitely recommend checking this place out!

I was pleasantly surprised by this place, which provided a much better dining experience than I was expecting. I’d say it’s a slight step up from a place like Applebee’s or Chili’s. Service was fantastic(Emily, our server, was so kind and attentive… she truly deserves a shout-out here). I had the French dip sandwich with sweet potato fries. It was a good lunch at a decent price: nothing out of this world, but a good deal for some casual food. Vibe inside is casual and warm. I will go back here again when it’s warmer because they usually have a nice patio set up outside.

Came here for a drink after dinner. They had a good mix of drink options and were fairly affordable. The setting was relaxing and very conducive to conversation. We had great service, too! My friend got the brownie sundae which was insane. Although it looked splendiferous, it was sort of disappointing. The brownies tasted sort of freezer burned and were dry. It was a lot of food, so I imagine it’d be a good sharing dessert.

This is one of the worst place I have ever been to in Chicago. To start with, this place has the worst service, after waiting for 45 min for the table, we got a table near the door. That was a bad decision to sit there. The chicken pot pie rates like frozen mac and cheese from the neghiboirhood store. The veggies burger was burnt and the nachos were soft and disgusting. The server was horrible rude.

One of two Loop locations for this Canadian-owned chain of faux-English pubs, featuring an extensive beer list heavy on British standards and American craft brews. Actually the first three items I tried to order were out; the bartender made some suggestions and offered samples. I ended up ordering: — Goose Island’s The Great Road, a rotating special in their Fulton and Wood series of seasonals. Rather odd stuff, a cider and pale ale mix that definitely takes after the cider side of the family, sweet and rather unbeerlike. — Founders Breakfast Stout. 8.3% ABV. Opaque black, with a fast-fading head. Roast malt, with bitterness coming from two kinds of coffee and bittersweet chocolate. Atmosphere is somewhat touristy. E&C’s food menu has the expected British pub standards, plus a modest array of burgers, sandwiches, and salads. What’s unusual, though, is five variations on poutine(remember those Canadian owners?). Classic, with fries topped with cheese curds and brown gravy; «The Works»(poutine aspiring to be nachos, topped with bacon, tomato, green onion, and sour cream); bacon; sweet potato; and butter chicken. The classic is much more authentically Québécois than the version I tried a couple of weeks ago across the Loop at First Draft. Trivia night Monday evenings. Public transit access could hardly be better: one block from the Randolph/Wabash station on the Loop«L»; two blocks from Lake/State on the Red Line and Washington/Dearborn on the Blue Line; one block from all the bus lines on Michigan Avenue and State Street. Convenient to the Loop theater district. Within an easy walk many of Loop and Near North hotels. For pub crawlers, one block from South Water Kitchen, three blocks from Howells and Hood in the Tribune Tower; four blocks from Chicago Public House; five from Harry Caray’s(to the northwest) or Miller’s(to the south).

We were at the Adams location. It started with poorly trained server, but she was nice so we really didn’t care. Friends ordered fish&chips and deluxe burger, I ordered lamb burger. I have had plenty lamb burger in my life and enjoyed, and so how bad could this be? Bad, really really bad, extremely bad. Don’t eat lamb burger because it is everything else but lamb burger. I ordered Caesar salad as a side which was good salad. Be aware that Caesar salad has bacon on it. I’m rating 3 stars because others were happy with their food. I guess it is my bad luck. But remember, NO lamb burger

Nice british pub. Our food was good and server was a really very good. Nice selection of British beer and beverages. Some old favorites and some surprises on the menu. My sons Bacon wrapped meatloaf was pretty good, my daughter had mussels in an ale/cream sauce with toast points. They were very good. calamari was so so. My fish and chips were good. They were playing some 80s dance hits and my 9 yr old son. all wound up from touring the museums all day… proceeded to put on a dance show. Instead of being annoyed, the waitstaff, manager and hostess took great delight and encouraged him. We had a great time and will be back.

Great appetizers and beers, but don’t sit on the Patio if you want service. If you want fast service sit at the bar and enjoy some good conversation with Joe!

This Americanized English pub has a pleasant atmosphere and good service. There are about a dozen authentic English pub dishes, and a larger selection of American sports bar type items. I only tried the pub pretzels, which we extremely doughy and covered in oil. I can’t recommend them. There is a decent selection of draft beers, and a somewhat limited bottle list.

This was not the best meal I have ever had. Service was indifferent. I ordered the jerk chicken sandwich. It was wedding rubber chicken quality. The worst part was the caesar salad I ordered on the side. The server said there was bacon on it and I agreed despite her subtle warning. This was foolish. «Bacon» here is synonymous with fat. There was maybe a quarter pound of fat on the salad that I had to pick off — see photo. The wife ordered the Mediterranean chicken wrap, which was in fact good. She called it delicious. A vampire who joined us ordered the Mac and cheese, which was tasteless.

After living and working downtown for a number of years, Elephant and Castle never disappoints. It’s a Loop staple where I don’t mind running into the tourist crowd. You can depend on this place for a proper Guinness pour and a bite to eat. It’s great for happy hours and large groups. Their menu is just big enough to accommodate any tastes or food sensitivities. Last night, a friend and I decided to have dinner at this location and our waiter, Michael, took great care of us. We were promptly seated by Nathan in a table close to the window. People watching is a one of my favorite pastimes. Mike was quick to take our drink and food orders. He was attentive and occasionally checked up on us. My friend decided on a burger and fries and I opted for the turkey wrap and salad. When the food arrived, his burger looked delicious. First timers are quick to notice malt vinegar at their tables. That vinegar isn’t only for the fish. Over in the UK, it’s common to drench your«chips» in it. Yes, it’s a thing, and it’s delicious. Now, onto my food. The turkey tasted like it was freshly sliced off. It certainly wasn’t that pre-sliced deli meat you would expect from a subway. My salad was fresh and lightly coated in the house vinaigrette dressing. Elephant and Castle does it again. My friend and I left satisfied and still as returning customers.

This was my group’s last spot during our pub crawl on St. Patty’s Day 2015. We waited in line for about 10 minutes for the crowd to clear out before the bouncer let our group in. Drinks were reasonable here and the atmosphere was great for St. Paddy’s. Everyone was a good sport and my group had a blast. I think we went about 10 rounds before calling it a day. They had Jameson shot glasses that we took home as souvenirs. Bathrooms are downstairs but they have an elevator for you to take if you’re super drunk.lol.

Great pub in the middle of downtown Chicago! My in-laws and I went here during the World Cup(yes, this review is long overdue). Luckily we were placed near a huge tv and in a room with just our group. The service was excellent. The waiter accommodated to our big group with a wandering toddler. He was very helpful with bringing back food in order to be reheated or cut in order to feed the baby. In general, I wouldn’t recommend this place for a family dinner. It’s dark and more of a man’s place, where you can go hang out with the boys over a beer and excellent pub food. I absolutely love the appetizers here especially the homemade chips. Crispy and tasty. They have perfected their bar food. I also ordered the chicken pot pie for my main course and for the most part it was good, but a little more runny than I’m used to and for some reason spicy. interesting. I did gobble down that side salad that came with it though! So good! Nice, fresh vinaigrette. I definitely recommend this place for a fun atmosphere to just hang out with friends over good food and a wide selection of drinks on tap.
