The food of mi gente! Finding good Cuban food outside of Dade county is no easy task. Cohiba has mastered some of their dishes, but unfortunately others fell quite short. I ordered take-out, so I won’t comment on service or ambiance. The ropa vieja was tender and delicious; the picadillo was also tasty. The sides on the other hand were a disappointment. The tostones were tough and not well prepared, Cohiba definitely missed the mark on this classic. The black beans were flavorful, but way too watery and the croquetas wouldn’t qualify to be on the menu at any restaurant in Miami. At least the key lime pie ended the meal on a good note, it was awesome.

Seafood was chewy and over cooked. Friends also had food they thought was mediocre. Was way overpriced for quality. Atmosphere was not great either

So mediocre it hurt. The service was amazing and the fact that it’s byob is great. However, anyone who has ever eaten Cuban food should know that this is way too flavorless to even compare. Way overpriced for the very small portions on the dinner menu. Even the black beans were just… Fine. Stick to ANY other Cuban restaurant in the city. Cafecito, 90 Miles, literally anywhere else. The only reason it was crowded had to be because people’s tastebuds were defective, they don’t know any better, or because it’s BYOB.

We had our work Christmas party here and had a blast. We had a private room upstairs and they served buffet style food for us(is not buffet usually). It Is BYOB so we all brought drinks to share. The food was very good and well seasoned. The staff was very friendly, our room ended at 9pm but the staff let us stay till almost 10:30pm. I plan to come back here again and try other foods on the menu. Check this place out if your looking to try some Cuban food.

I got Cohiba for delivery and overall it was pretty solid. Its a little more straight forward approachable food, Americanized if you will. The sopa de pollo was basically a tomato based chicken noodle soup with a kick. It was a miss, I wouldn’t get a again. The Cuban tamale was a sweet potato base, which was great. The filing was chicken which looked a bit gross and boiled, but overall not bad. The sandwich de leon was a good. The pork was very juicy, but it could have used a sauce. Their were only 2 plaintains on it, covering only about half the sandwich. The fries were too skinny and a bit soggy. I threw them on my sandwich with a little bbq sauce and it turned around. Nothing was great, but I enjoyed myself. I’d likely order again.

Pretty below average for Cuban food. We ordered the empanadas(2 Ropa Vieja and 1 chicken), steak sandwich, and Cuban sandwich. The empanadas were very dried out, like saw dust, the outside was very soggy too. The Cuban sandwich was ridiculously skimpy on the pork, basically a ham and cheese sandwich. The steak sandwich was flavorful, just very small compared to other places, but brought this from 1 star to 2.

Have passed by Cohiba many times and finally went in for dinner with some friends on a weekend. The place was crowded with groups and dates, and had a dark cozy vibe. Their BYOB policy is bring your own rum or wine, and they’ll provide mojito, piña colada, or wine mixers for $ 15. We brought rum for mojitos and the mixer was pretty tasty with fresh mint. The pina coladas come in a real pineapple, CUTE. For the food we shared an appetizer combo plate, a whole fried snapper with garlic sauce, a steak and shrimp plate, and ropa vieja. Highlights for me were: — the garlic sauce(although my mouth tasted like garlic for the next 24 hours) — empanadas — ropa vieja — whole fried snapper Overall everything was delicious and our server was really nice. It did take awhile for us to get our food but that’s what those cute lil pineapple drinks are for right?

First time here and we loved it… great lighting and extreme warm feeling. The empanadas were outstanding and the shrimp app with swiss and bacon were even better!

Delicious and authentic! Owner is great, and staff is friendly and attentive. Food was delicious, and the place is BYOB. Good variety of cuisine, too.

came here for a friends birthday a while back… its a nice little restaurant with friendly staff. i got a chance to try out a lot of different dishes here because everyone in my table was sharing their food. ive tried. Empanadas(chicken, beef, and chorizo) — they was just ok. for me it was lacking on flavor. also i thought they could of have a little more filling in them. Pollo Frito(Chicken fried to a golden brown Cuban style. Topped with chopped onions and parsley. Served with yellow rice and yuca con mojo) it was good. the skin of the chicken was nice and crispy. and still tender in the inside. mix that with the onions and yellow rice and you will have a very good meal. Cohiba Platter(combination of grilled chicken fillet, masita, palomilla steak and grilled shrimp) the meats was cooked just right and well seasoned. some of the steak was a little tough. other then that its a delicious dish

Cohibna Cuban rocked my birthday dinner so hard. For starters we got some pitchers of the Mojito Mix. Cohibina Cuban is BYOB, so bring your own rum and mix your perfect mojito. Their mix is outta this world! All of the food rocked. If you’re in a big group, I’d recommend the appetizer combo plate(2 empanadas, 1 papa rellena, 1 yuca rellena, 1 tamale, 2 croquetas and tostones), it says it’s ideal for 2, but it’s probably suitable for 4 people. The marquitas(plaintain chips and garlic oil) are outstanding! For my entrée, I got the Bistec de Palomilla(The most traditional Cuban style steak. Juicy, thin-cut beef cooked on the grill and topped with chopped onions. Served with rice, black beans and your choice of tostones or maduros.) I loved the sweet plantains! For dessert we got the coconut flan —amazing! I can’t wait to come back here! ***Our server was OUTSTANDING!

I’ve been living in the city for 8 months and I just barely got around to trying Cohiba recently. I just keep thinking«why did I wait so long??» My sis and I stopped in for a quick drink and some apps and fell in love with this place. We started off with Pina Coladas… and of course since they are BYOB, my sis decides to go across the street and pick up some Malibu and Rumchata to add to our drinks. The Pina Coladas were delicious and very large – and served in a pineapple! That’s as legit as you can possibly get with that drink. We then ordered a papa rellena to share and a yuca rellena. They were both delicious! We also got the set of 3 different types of empanadas: chicken, ground beef and chorizo. The ground beef one was actually my favorite. They came with a unique orange dipping sauce, too. We also ordered tostones. Now, according to my experience with tostones, they are supposed to be crispy. These were a bit rubbery and not really easy to bite into at all. That was probably my least favorite dish of the evening. However, the wonderful service we had made up for the sub-par tostones. Our server(a female, can’t remember her name) was the sweetest person and always had a smile. The ambiance was nice too. Our area was cozy and dimly lit. It seemed like a smaller place and it was a Monday evening around dinnertime, but was not crowded at all. They also play the best salsa music inside! I hear that they have an upstairs, so I’ll have to go back and check that out… I also want to try their Ropa Vieja, and sis wants to try their Oxtail soup. We will be back soon!

I only got empanadas and they did not contain enough chorizo. Not too flavorful.

A good local place to grab a bite. I tried the ropa vieja and it was just okay; sort of reminded me of chef boyardee taste I wasn’t too crazy about. The rice and beans were great. Will have to try other dishes to give them a more accurate rating.

Ordered the Pollo Frito and was a little disappointed. The portion size was huge but I thought the meat was really dry. The Yuca Con Mojo was really good though as was the yellow rice but what’s exciting sides to a dull main dish. Now the saving grace to this restaurant is it’s BYOB. And the service here was great. Maybe I just ordered the wrong dish. Perhaps it was the wrong night. Wrong vibe. I dunno. But it’s something that makes me want to like this place so I’m willing to give it another shot.

I was a little hesitant to try a Cuban restaurant where Lakeview meets Lincoln Park. Can a restaurant across the street from a designer Walgreens(Walgreens!) really make authentic Cuban cuisine?! Yes. I’ve never had a better Cuban sandwich; I could eat those cassava fries with garlic sauce for days. And I’m preeeetty sure a week later, I can still taste the pulled pork atop my friend’s Cohabarito sandwich with plantains instead of bread. Don’t come tight on time! Although we were seated soon upon arrival, the waitress warned us we’d have a long wait for our food. Indeed, our food took over an hour, with our appetizers served only a minute or two before our entrees. BYOB.

Great Cuban food! We’ve done both lunch and dinner and everything we’ve had was delicious. Can’t beat the Cuban sandwich, but others worthy of mention: cohibarito sandwich, bistec de palomilla, pechugo de pollo a la plancha, and the ropa vieja. They also have great smoothies too! Ask for a passion fruit smoothie(not on the menu). Oh and it’s BYOB! Took off one star though because the service was a bit slow both times we were there.

Overall: A great Cuban option in East Lakeview. There aren’t a ton of Cuban options in the area, and this one hopefully sticks around! The good: BYOB, great food, fast and friendly service, plenty of seating with an upstairs area. Clean atmosphere with good music. Again, the food is fantastic. Great portions. Left stuffed. Prices are fair. The bad: The upstairs was fine, but the downstairs area was very cold. The green plantains were too dry for my taste. Not much else is bad! Atmosphere: 9⁄10 Service: 9⁄10 Food: 9⁄10
