I really enjoy bringing my children here either for books, movies or to come to do their homework. Peaceful, quite, organized, clean well stocked. Attentive service, friendly and always willing to help. Sometimes they don’t have everything you’re looking for but still a well run operation here.

My go-to library because it is literally 5 minutes from my house. I come here when I need a reference or two, or to print or copy some documents. Staff here is okay for the most part. I think they should take into consideration that people are reading and studying when they are talking or shouting to each other through casual conversation. C’mon, you guys aren’t little kids with involuntary speech volumes. I just put in my headphones and mind my own business. It is usually not crowded in here so that is a plus. One star for being close to my house and another for easy parking.

This is clean, well-lit library that is a pleasure to have within walking distance of my house. The collection is not large, but of course one can request books on the CPL website and have them delivered here for pickup. I like that there are computers to reserve that are designated for each of kids-only and adults-only. Another bonus is the reading areas for adults and kids are separated so that kids can be kids and adults can concentrate on the task at hand. The free Wi-Fi is nice too.

I’m on a quest to visit every branch of the Chicago Public Library system. The Portage-Cragin library looks just like the Brighton Park branch on the outside. On the inside it’s very much the same as well. There is a very large space behind the check-out counter to set up your laptop and do some work. I visited on a Saturday, so there weren’t too many patrons. Despite there not being very many people in the building, it was quite noisy. I can only imagine what it’s like when it’s more crowded. Seems like it might be hard to get a spot at a computer, but lots of space to work with your own laptop!
