Very endearing. Students are not polished servers by any means, but they are clearly aiming to please. A few of the teachers stopped by as well, all interested in getting your feedback and making sure you’re enjoying yourself. Room is very plain. Food selection was impressively broad and mostly well executed. Had a very nice salad, halibut with corn chowder, and bread pudding. All excellent. Bill for 3 courses at lunch = $ 14. A few of the other diners at my table were less enthused with a dish or two, but I’d say it had at least an 80% hit rate.

This is a solid place for a meal that is not run of the mill. With the menu changing weekly, you get a chance to indulge in plenty of different styles for a very reasonable price of $ 25 for a three course + dessert meal. Being a BYOB this place is a great start to a casual(or rowdy) evening. Waitstaff is nice and very accommodating. Went there one time with two friends on «tapas week» and lucked out becasue it was pretty empty. The head of the wait staff wasn’t shy to ask us what we ate and what we liked, then preceeded to get us seconds of it. Then she brought out even more plates of things we «just had to try». It was great because they have to make sure all the students are getting enough cooking opportunities, so the slow night led to a lot of good eating. Ofcourse, being a student run café not every dish is going to be perfect. I have definately had things in the past that I was not happy with, but it’s not a regular thing and they’re more than happy to give you somethin else to try

We had a great time with a big group. The service(while not professional level) tries very hard. The food is really very good, considering it is done by students. The menu changes nearly every week, and $ 25 for 3 courses plus dessert cannot be beat. Everyone is very nice, quick to open your BYOB wine, and it feels good knowing you’re helping the students learning(plus getting a good meal out of it).

This place is such a bargain! What it is CHIC(Cooking and HOspitality Institute of Chicago)‘s senior students running this restaurant. The menu changes daily and breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all served. Dinner is a four-course bargain at $ 25. There’s no liquor license, so it’s acceptable to bring in wine and beer. Lunch is a three-course bargain at only $ 15! Make sure that you call(312)873−2032 to make reservations. It’s right off of the Chicago stop(on the el) so it’s super convenient to most. I’ve been here before for lunch and it’s always such a steal. The presentation is beautiful and the food has been fantastic each time. Last time, I went — they served me a salad, roast chicken and tiramisu — yum!
