We have eaten at Chez Moi several times before. We went with two guests and the four of us have eaten at a multitude of fine restaurants over the years. This was our fifth visit and I must admit a kind of last ditch chance for them. The high point of their menu is always the foie gras and we have no complaints there. I ordered the escargots and any restaurant that has them on their menu merits a taste. When the restaurant first opened we had gone there and they served them in a small cast iron coquette with a small disc of puff pastry. Interesting as it was, not my favorite. I ordered them again and they came in a traditional escargot dish with 6 cavities filled with the traditional butter, garlic and parsley. The entire dish was covered with a puff pastry. The steam and heat below turned the pastry into a gelatinous, stretchy nasty mess. Usually my husband dips bread in my escargot plate to soak up seasoned garlic flavored butter. He said the cavities had no flavor whatsoever. When a dish comes back to the kitchen with 6 cavities of butter it should be a red flag to any chef. My main course as well as one of our guests were the lobster filled ravioli with scallops over polenta. My dish arrived barely tepid. I finally got the attention of the waitress and asked that she take it back to the kitchen and have them nuke it so it was hot. It took fifteen minutes to do so… she never asked our guest if his needed the same treatment. The dough for the ravioli was overworked and tough, the scallops suffered from the re-heat and the polenta was a soft mess underneath. My husband had a fish dish with polenta and it too barely made the temperature bar. We followed this chef since his tenure at Bistro 110 and have been consistently underwhelmed… sorry not going back which is too bad as we love to support neighborhood places.

The food is simply amazing. We came here during the Restaurant week and they had a special menu which was really good. soup flight was amazing — 4 soups — and all are very delicious. Very generous portions, great food, great ambiance, we felt like we were in France. Definitely coming back here.

Overall 3.5 stars. We went on a Thursday night with a Groupon. Place was pretty empty except for two other tables. Overall ambiance was good, our server was a bit distant through the whole meal while the busboy was very attentive. Moscow Mule– watered down, can’t really taste the ginger beer or alcohol. Escargot– by far our favorite dish! The sauce was very tasty and not overly oily. The delightful puff pastry on top was wonderful– pillowy stretchy and a bit sweet. Perfect to dip into the remaining sauce! French onion soup– pretty good, slightly above average. Cassoulet– the bean sauce was very tasty, but the duck confit was cold inside and tasted… stale? The rest of the meat in the dish also did not taste fresh or «fall off the bone» tender. The green thing they sprinkled on top… Didn’t really add to the dish. Overall it looked super crispy but fell short :( Lamb shank– again the sauce and couscous was very good. But the lamb itself was gamey and not tender. I would return for their happy hour and appetizers, but not so much for the entrées!

Amazing French food in Lincoln Park. I could live on their bread, butter, and roasted garlic alone. Really happy to have this gem in the neighborhood.

Chez Moi is a cute diner on the northwest corner of Halsted and Dickens. The decoration inside is really elegant and classy. The servers are friendly. And the atmosphere is quite. It’s a perfect place for a date night. There’s bread on house before dinner. We started with Mussels. The mussels were pretty tasty but not astonishingly impressive. The fries served with it actually blowed my mind. It’s crispy on the outside and moisturized and soft on the inside. We ordered Braised Lamb Shank Tagine and Canard A l’Orange(duck leg). I love the lamb!!! The meat is juicy and savory. It is really soft and can basically melt in your mouth. I definitely love the couscous inside of it. The duck was ok. It’s really flavory, but since the leg was medium rare, which gives the meat a special texture. I didn’t really enjoy that part. But for those medium rare meat lovers. This dish might be for you: D Will come back and check out their brunch and other dishes.

Thought it was going to be great but what a bad experience! In particular, our server, Michael was a joke. He was horrible with an bad attitude and bad service. The food tastes not fresh and taste like restaurant depot! Idk why people put this restaurant on a high chair! But people need to realize that this restaurant is a joke!

Beyond prix fixe menus and Restaurant Week, I highly recommend enjoying a French meal at this bistro. Regardless of week night, their chefs are more than capable of enticing your taste buds. This of course is offered at a profitable cost to the restaurant. My first time out was almost a year to the day. Based on reviews I picked this spot(for a date) and also chose a number of dishes for shared tasting. The food was excellent, notably tasty were the mushroom cigar and foie gras something. I’d ordered a steak as a main entrée and with it came run-of-the-mill frozen French fries which were called«pomme frites» by our waiter. How strange I thought. Quality-wise, I thought most of it was pretty damn good. Service wasn’t great. Our waiter was having a bad day and her attitude halted us from ordering more drinks /items. There seemed to be a shift change towards the end of our meal(or maybe the waiter went home early) leaving a manager to finish up with us. He wouldn’t take«no» for an answer on dessert and insisted. Thanks were necessary afterwards since we devoured both plates.(Desserts: Gâteau Breton and some other number with a pastry cream and a fruity coulis) The oddest detail; my ¾ piece of steak I’d requested to take home never made it into my takeaway container.(They pack food in the kitchen). Some of the sauce from the plate and veggies made it into the container but the fake pomme frites and meat, I haven’t a clue where it went. I was irritated since my bill before tip was over $ 125. Definitely a strike against the place. but I didn’t let it stop me from returning. I’d been back a few more times in the past year of 2015. RW2015 sucked. That’s restaurant week. All the shit you’d expect to happen in a stinkier kitchen. I.e. Half-cooking meals ahead of time so that when it’s ordered, it would be easy to fast-fire and the kitchen can get it out quicker. Except par-cooking worked against them. I joined another couple for RW hoping to make new customers out of some friends. Everyone felt it was okay food but not worthy of the price. Some of us got over-cooked meals and others were just dissatisfied. I can’t say I’d do another RW unless I knew for certain meals were made fresh when ordered. After those experiences, I kept my visits to just drinks and appetizers. Not because of resentment, mainly because of trying to include it as a destination during«Foodie» outings. i. e hitting a number of foodie hot-spots, tasting all around town. I understand that some ass up on many of the Groupon or deal offerings. I haven’t yet cared to do that. To get the most taste out of this restaurant is to try them on a less busy weeknight. Pick all the customer favorites and make sure you have a group to share it with. Share the cost as well, so that it doesn’t break your bank and finally, get booze from them. Their corkage fee is extraordinary.

I love this place. It’s a cozy and romantic tiny corner spot in Lincoln Park, perfect for dates and an intimate evening. My boyfriend and I came here for dinner and were not disappointed. I love the vibe of this place and the staff spoke French, giving it the authentic feel. For starters, we split their bacon and mushroom tart as well as french onion soup. Both we delicious. The tart was amazing. It was a very delicate puff pasty that melted in your mouth. For the entrée, I had wild mushroom ravioli. The sauce was really good and filling. My boyfriend enjoyed the duck in an awesome au jus. They also have a good wine selection and the dishes are beautifully plated. I definitely want to come back to this place.

This place is super intimate! A wonderful place to take that special person /family member to catch up and enjoy a fabulous meal. I had won some comp’d tickets to this restaurant to my bf & I were splurging on everything. Of course we tipped very well at the end ;) Anyway, I had never eaten frog legs before so we ordered some for our app and just like anything else, it tasted just like chicken! The chef baked them to perfection and every bite of the frog legs meat melted in my mouth. The other app we had tried were their baked snail aka escargot which was also very delicious. For our entrée Kev had their braised lamb and I ordered their beef tenderloin. Although we were still in their restaurant close to their closing time we didn’t feel rushed to get out by our waiter. Our waiter actually encouraged us to eat more! Dessert that is :) Our waiter also encouraged us to take pictures and Kev & I eventually slow danced by our table to the beautiful music playing in the background. Overall? We both enjoyed our food, each others company, the ambience, and service. Will def come here again!

So I had purchased a Groupon for this place and finally went in yesterday for brunch. The food is alright, nothing extra ordinary. I would give five stars just for the French onion soup which looks exactly like the pic on their website and tasted amazing but that’s it. The smoked salmon crêpe was waayyy too salty, I understand that smoked salmon is a little salty but should not be to the extent it tastes bitter and you have to drink something constantly for the rest of the afternoon to get over that taste in your mouth. The steak frites was average. Along the drinks the mimosa and Irish coffee did pack a punch. Not sure if I want to go try their dinner menu after this experience as they are pricier.

Very cute corner restaurant off of Halstead and Dickens — The food is fresh and tasty for brunch and dinner. We tried the french toast croissant and croque monsieur. Both were excellent. Although my husband thought the raspberry coulis sauce was overly sweet on the french croissant. If you’re a sweets lover like me, you’ll think it’s spot on! The hostess Athena and waiters are very attentive and friendly as well. The ambiance is warm with just a little bit of light shining thru the windows. I love the wooden tables with the ‘Chez Moi’ engraved in them at the corner. It adds a personalized touch that makes me feel like I’m sitting in a corner bistro café in Paris.

Our party of four had reservations for 8:30 in a Friday night and were seated promptly when we got there. We had excellent service and the food was even better. My husband’s Cassoulet was amazing– such tender meat!- and my own lobster and scallop dish was delicious. The dishes were a little expensive/I’m not sure we would go back, due to budget constraints(we were guests at our meal last night). But, besides that, we had such a great experience. On our way to our seating in the back we passed the kitchen and the Chef greeted us with«Bonsoir!» — that was my favorite part of the night. I felt I had stepped into a small family restaurant in France.

Food was fine, but nothing special. The ambiance is nice, but nothing memorable. Sadly, it’s a somewhat nicer restaurant, yet they do not locally source meat, fish, or other items, which is really not okay with the prices. If you are charging $ 25+ for entrees, then the food should be better quality.(Think humane animal treatment and not farmed raised fish.) It was good enough, but not impressive. Glad we went, but likely not going back. Service was very good, though.

More of a 3.5…even 3.75…There were some major hits here but I feel like my overall satisfaction with the place stems from me having not tried much French cuisine in general and deciding to splurge a bit here(even with the Groupon), so I ultimately feel like there are better French places to go to. Made reservations for 6pm Monday for two people. They were nice and were able to push it back to 7 after my request. I mentioned over the phone that this was for a birthday and they took note, as I hoped to get a complimentary dessert or something. Upon arrival, the place was pretty much at capacity which was nice to see. Our server was lovely and friendly. We ordered the onion soup, bacon and onion tart, warm goat cheese salad, lobster ravioli and scallops, and beef tenderloin en croute. Everything took very long to come, although in appropriate order. We noticed that our server was the only one for the night, so we didn’t knock her for that. She did very well. The bartender and busboys helped when necessary. The complimentary sourdough bread was fine. The butter was very good though. A minor mishap I noticed… the boo’s set of utensils included a butter knife instead of a regular knife. The onion soup was delish! I would come back just for this. It was nice that it stayed very hot. The onion flavor was perfect with the cheese crust topping. The warm goat cheese salad was also yummy. Everything worked very well together. The bacon and onion tart was amazing and I’m not even a big bacon fan. The portion was also bigger than expected. The entrees took extremely long to come. The lobster ravioli were mediocre to me, but the scallops were perfection. Huge and perfectly seared. I enjoyed the creamy polenta base. I thought the beef was somewhat disappointing. It was cooked nearly well done when asked for medium and thought it lacked flavor. I didn’t really taste the green peppercorn sauce. Presentation was fantastic but didn’t think the phyllo crust did much for the dish. I had a feeling our server was too occupied to remember my bf’s birthday, so a kind busboy brought us the dessert menu. We got the first option(cake with caramel sauce). It was good but nothing outstanding. While I loved a number of things here, mainly the apps, the entrees fell a bit short to me, in terms of flavor and not for portion/price like many of the complaints here on Unilocal, which I thought were quite satisfactory overall. Hats off to the busboy who constantly refilled my water(I went for a run right before so I was dehydrated), but my water was always quickly replenished. Also, amazing job to the sole server of the night.

Overall: muscles on muscles. I came here for muscle fest plus happy hour with a few buddies from work. I had like 100 muscles. It was aweseome. Food: Muscle fest for 25 dollars with some drank added on. It was also happy hour and I got to a good place pretty quickly. There was a pretty long list of brews that were on the $ 4 beer list. The muscles came in four varieties, Mediterranean, lobster bisque, classic, belgium, and something that I couldn’t pronounce. Shame on me cause I took French for four years. The waiter was telling me that muscle fest was a strange event. The restaurant normally caters to people looking for a calm 3-course meal, but muscle fest required waiters to frantically run in and out. It was a strange dynamic and luckily for him, we came in on the last day so it was almost over for him. Our food came out pretty quickly in large pots and free french fries on the side. It was a good time chatting with friends about childhood video games and debt ratings in the city of Chicago. My friends are weird. I think we ate a small bay’s worth of muscles. Totally worth it.

My bf and I had a reservation for two on a Saturday night. We were seated right away. The server was very attentive and friendly. We ordered the escargot as our appetizer. It came with a butter crust top, it was really flaky but the escargot didn’t had enough flavor. I got the Lamb Shank and my bf had the braised short ribs. My entrée tasted more like a middle eastern dish instead of French. It was just perfect to my taste, I don’t like anything too salty. But if you like really flavorful salty food then don’t come here. The short ribs was good as well. The mash potatoes wasn’t salted at all which I like. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and we had a good time. I do recommend this place for date night and if you do not like salty food. Their food are not salty at all.

Thanks to Groupon, I tried this restaurant. It is a lovely little place! Quaint, quiet, pretty romantic! The chandeliers are so cool – I was wishing my Groupon covered one of those besides the food :-) I ordered the charcuterie plate; everything was fresh and delicious! Next came the French onion soup, again, piping hot, delicious with steaming, dripping cheese. Yummy. My daughter had the chicken which was crisp and again, delicious. We were stuffed at that point, but because we had the Groupon, we had money to spare. Hello, three desserts! LOL. We got three apple tart cakes to go and later ate those. That was the only downside – too too sweet. Overall a great place. The owner strolls around chit chatting everyone up which was a nice touch. Service was excellent and food well-timed. Just one suggestion: the lighting was too dark for a 6pm dinner!

The food: 3⁄5. We started with frog legs as an app, which were fairly overdone and didn’t go well with cherry tomatoes and mashed potatoes. I had trout as my main, which wasn’t impressive either. After reading all the reviews, I was very excited to try it, expecting a nice creamy sauce, but the fish itself was bland and the sauce was scarce. Frankly, I enjoyed shredded zucchini more than the fish. Crème brûlée was alright. Drinks were good. The service:2/5. The waitress seemed attentive at first, but once the place started getting busier, she couldn’t keep things straight. My utensils were taken after we finished the app, and then my main arrived, I waited for close to 10 minutes for new utensils, when I finally had to flag down another waitress. It also took a long time for our waitress to come back, so we can order another round of drinks. Overall: 2.5÷5. Meh… Nice vibe, but unmemorable food.

My first try at Restaurant Week! For $ 33 per person, each patron is due a three-course meal. I had the pan seared crab cake with spicy lobster bisque, steamed mussels with French fries, and dessert platter. The pan seared crab cake was a generous slab served with an edible orchid. The flower was more for the visual and fragrance effect more than anything else. The lobster bisque fell short of its spiciness but the crab cake was decent by itself. The steamed mussels arrived in a huge pot of broth made with leeks and bacon cream. Flavors could be a little more blatant but the portion is great for sharing. The dessert platter was a bit disappointing. The chocolate mousse lack depth with very high levels of sugar and minimal levels of cocoa. The macaron sat in a puddle of raspberry sauce that left its exterior soggy. The crème brûlée came in a puny ceramic cup that is usually used to hold condiments. It was missing a layer seared caramel. Instead it shared the same sugary sauce as the gâteau breton. The gâteau breton was the highlight as a buttery, shortbread biscuit. Reservations are recommended as there are limited seating. The environment is perfect for girls’ night out and/or dates.

Improved more appropriate but still pricey price range overall. Michael gives very good service. Ambience is very nice. Food and drink are pricey but good for special occasion with a full range of choices for vegetarian, gluten free, and pescatarian as well as carnivores! I recommend for a special occasion only for groups of five or less. Cocktail pricing reflects the use of only top shelf brands. You may wish to pre-party elsewhere. street parking is fairly easy to find. Very clean unisex washrooms. Special occasion appropriate, too pricey for a regular rotation.
