Be careful meat usually last a day in the fridge and quickly smells bad. Especially prepackaged items. I notice that there are times the dates say they have packaged the day after i have visited so the labeling is wrong and who knows how long it’s been sitting there. Also, there are signs stating that they will be charging 10 cents for bags starting October 1 and the was just there and the cashier wanted to charge me today. I asked why the sign said October 1, she said yes but either you pay or you don’t get a bag for that and she just continued with the next person. Rude.

I adore neighborhood grocers. There are many Cermak Produce stores in the city but I absolutely, hands down, prefer this one. It is always spotless and stocked with fresh(not overripe) fruit that is cheaper and of better quality than I have ever seen at Jewel or even Whole Paycheck(Foods). The store is always swamped but there are never long checkout lines like at the major grocery stores. This store mostly has hispanic foods and vegetables. But they have every kind of vegetable you could want. Just make sure you know the spanish name of it. I love mangos, plantains and yuca and this is the best place to buy these veggies. But, I went in to buy a frozen pizza one day and came out disappointed. A couple real treats about this store: they have great specials on meat. I got boneless skinless chicken breast on special for $ 1.99/lb but the package you had to buy was like 5 or 6 lbs… no problem, I got ziplock bags and it went in the freezer and lasted me a month!!! Great deal. Yesterday I got something called ‘mariscos mix’(seafood). It is a mixture of different kinds of small shellfish like crab and octopus. It cost $ 1.98!!! a pound and is almost as fresh as getting it right out of the ocean. Amazing!!! Worth a trip… mostly cheaper than even Costco and very fresh. F-Dominicks and Jewel!
