One of the best Unilocal finds to date! Had one of the best jibarritos ever and the Puerto Rican fried rice is the bomb!!! Service is exceptional!

Ever since making a trip down to Puerto Rico this winter my boyfriend and I have often had a hankering for a delicious Puerto Rican food. This awesome BYOB restaurant certainly fit the bill! We had the chicken mofongo which was delicious and garlicky and the hilachas which is a Hondoran dish, made of mashed sweet and green plantains similar to the Puerto Rican mofongo, but with a mix of sweet and savory flavors that came with tilapia and shrimp in a creole sauce. The restaurant itself looks like a homey kitchen in a beloved aunt’s home. Excellent meal!

Im so glad to know that this Casa Yari also served vegetarian dishes, Though I eat meats but I really preferred veggies and fruits or something that is really healthy, I’m much concern on the healthiness compare to the taste, of course having the two is a great compliments already and I’m so glad that I can find some of my vegetarian dishes here. It’s my 4th time to be here by now. They also have tasty Caribbean salmon which I really like. It makes me come back again and again. Great place.

Awesome Lil BYOB spot… We ordered a steak churassco plate, steak jibarito combo, & chicken jibraito combo. Everyone liked their dish and it was full of flavor. They advertised that they were featured in Chicago magazine October 2015 which is pretty cool. The waitress I forgot her name but she was super friendly and playful with my 13 month old son. Thank you for great experience we’ll be back!

There’s really nothing that I love more than some delicious Puerto Rican food, and this place makes the cut! The assortment of flan will blow your mind(avocado, pineapple, gandules, etc.) and the coffee is spectacular. Just like you’d make with a well-worn coffee sock(the PR folk will get that reference, trust me it’s good). They have your staples: yellow rice and gandules, pastelon, jibaritos of the meat AND veggie variety. Brunch is also quite delicious — they use this amazing sour cream that is unlike anything I’ve ever tasted. I suppose if JC himself used sour cream, it would be this stuff. The service is sometimes slow and odd… we once asked the waiter what about some ingredients in the french toast because it was so amazingly delicious and he remarked that the chef doesn’t tell him about the recipe because it’s a secret. Not that I cared, but what if I were asking because I had a food allergy? Anyway, I digress… I’ve been back here a few times and can overlook the oddities for the seriously delicious grub.

I’ll keep this simple. I created an account on Unilocal just to give them 5 stars; the food was honestly that good! The server(owner?) is also incredibly accommodating and polite. Delicious food, unique flavors, you’ll never leave dissatisfied. I would recommend this place in a heartbeat!

This is the second time I have gone and the food never disappoints. Last time had the jibaro de eggplant was yummy and different. Today had mofongo de hilanches so good. And the flan de coco was great ate it all.

In all honesty the Flan was the reason I was brought to this place. It definitely didn’t dissapoint! We tried the one with Mango and Chile! Awesome combination with the sweet and spicy! My buddy had one with gandules, he really liked it. The food was OK. Didn’t really impress me as much though. I had the pastelon, it’s kind of like a chicken lasagna, but different version. A bit salty and it was a small portion. It didn’t really fill me up, so I stole some of my girlfriends steak Jibarito, it was really good! Will absolutely be back to try out all of their flans, especially the coquito one which I keep hearing wonders about!

Seriously good food and just amazing service. We’ve been on the hunt for the best jibarrito and hands down we found it. Flavorful with quality beef and not greasy. But it wasn’t even the best part of our meal. The pastelon was a perfect balance of sweet plantain and savory ground beef. Stop reading and stop by like right now. Hector is super friendly, was patient with all our questions on the menu and will help you pick an amazing dinner.

What a hidden gem! I was looking for a BYO spot that served different dietary needs and this fit the bill. I live in Logan Square but had never heard of this spot until I found it on Unilocal. The reviews were great, and Casa Yari did not disappoint! The menu has a lot of meat dishes which are mostly served with plantains, which is a dream come true for me. On our recent visit we started with the plantain nachos — ORDERTHESE. You’re welcome. Two of my dining companions got the skirt steak(although it was a bit overcooked), one got the Mofongo and I got the Chicken Tajadas. All of the food was phenomenal. The place is very unassuming from the outside so it was a pleasant surprise that we loved it as much as we did. And the prices?!? They are giving this stuff away. The entrees were $ 15 each. I can barely get lunch downtown for that at a fast casual spot. There was a lot on the menu that looked delicious so I can’t wait to try out more of it!

I’m a fan. In fact I’d say if they had more than a single(but proficient!) server on our recent visit I’d be giving it 5 stars. It’s small(quaint?) inside but didn’t feel crowded even with all the tables full. That’s a plus. The menu is a combination of Guatamalan, Puerto Rican, and Caribbean food with a lot of offerings utilizing plantains. I like that. All 4 of us found something we wanted and really liked. We started with two appetizers — the stuffed sweet plantains(just ok) and the Caribbean nachos. Forget what you normally think of when you envision nachos. These are NOT that. They are SPECTACULAR mounds of fried plantains with shredded pork, melted cheese and mango salsa. Amazing. I could eat these as my entrée. In fact next time I may just do that! The skirt steak was thin but so incredibly flavorful due to the chimichurri marinade and the accompanying yuca was tasty. The mofongo was a huge portion with shredded pork and oh so good! And the Parilla De Pollo with the chimichurri and chile arbol sauce was a pure delight. Plus there are tons of options for vegetarians. We didn’t have dessert but the choices are mouth watering. Got my eye on the cran coco bread pudding!

I loved this place! I got the jibaritos with steak and chimichurri sauce. The service was amazing and the place is so nice. They gave me some chips and sauce on top to start which was also delicious. The jibarito steak came next and it had the flattened and fried plantains and then delicious steak and onion inside. Only $ 7 plus tax. So affordable and delicious. Loved this meal! Would check this place out again and try their other options.

Excellent! I moved to Chicago a year ago, I have tried many places here since then and I have paid for way overpriced meals in places you are supposed to get fresh and quality food but you don’t really. So, in Chicago my new strategy is to stick to authentic and delicious normal /decent priced cuisine using fresh ingredients surrounded by servers, cooks etc who know what they serve. Casa Yari is one of those places where food is delicious, great quality ingredients, tasty simple dishes and healthy. It’s one of those places I can’t understand why isn’t packed for brunch but then I realize this is Chicago and so it makes sense(they don’t offer greasy burgers and/or frozen fake fries). Anyway, we tried the seitan jibarito, the regular baleada with avocado and the cachatro breakfast. Everything top top! As well as the service. We will be back!

This place is amazing. All there food is amazing. They have Honduran and Puerto Rican food. I literally tried a little of everything and everything I tried was great. My tastebuds are in shock with all the flavor. They have a separate menu on Sunday’s. It’s a breakfast /lunch menu. I will definitely come back for there food.

I had been here once before with some friends and had a fabulous dinner… and since it was BYOB, the girls and I had a great dinner. Ever since then, I’ve been wanting to bring the hubby here. So here we are for brunch… and boy, can I tell you that it was the best decision for brunch we have ever made. The inside of the restaurant is very simply decorated and the music streaming is very relaxing. The service was great… and the food was amazing! I ordered the Boricua Breakfast which consists of two eggs(anyway you want them), imported straight from Puerto Rico Spam cut into slices, sweet plantains, seasoned fries and avocado. My husband ordered the eggs and mofongo and was covered in a yummy red sauce. For our daughter, off their very excellent kids menu, we ordered the Lares Breakfast which consisted of arroz con gandules(rice with pigeon peas), scrambled eggs and seasoned fries. Our daughter is picky about eggs and she ate the eggs with no problem. The rice was seasoned well and not dry, like other places that we have been to. For dessert, Casa Yari is known for their flan, and after our server mentioned so many yummy flans that currently had for the day… we suggested that she she bring us her favorite, which turned out to be the plantano rum raisin. That surprise decision made my husband very happy since he’s a huge rum raisin fan. If you are in search of a great place for brunch, this is the place to come to. I will be back soon… you can count on it!

This local spot is a hidden gem. The place is very simple, which gives it a nice relaxed atmosphere for dinning. This is a no rush type of place. Take a seat have some of their café con leche, which was great. The menu is just like the setting. Simple and to the point. The focus here is flavor and that’s what we got. I had their Mofongo and eggs. First off, this was a huge serving. It is basically mashed plantains and with two eggs topped with chopped bacon and salsa. The combination was on point. My wife had the Boricua breakfast. The plate consisted of two eggs, seasoned fries, sliced avocado, and an imported«Spam» style luncheon meat that was fried just right. A very good dish. We finished all up with some flan that is made in house. We let our server pick her favorite and she brought us back a Rum Raisin Flan. It’s was very good. My wife found it a bit strong, but if you like rum. This one will hit the spot. At the end of it all. It’s a great dining experience if your new to Puerto Rican cuisine. This place will point you in the right direction. Another good point about this restaurant is that they have vegetarian options for most of their dishes. So drop the lettuce wraps and try some great Caribbean food.

Complete gem! So happy I found this place, my friend and I enjoyed it so much. Good atmosphere, very clean and homey. Food is amazing! Can definitely tell it’s all hand made and it’s all seasoned to perfection! Not too expensive especially for the quality and presentation of the food, see my pictures. Walking in you’re seated right away by friendly staff :) and great selection of salsa music. Try their Pernil encebollado if you like pork and their desserts are a must. Portions are perfect size, you will get full but it’s not overbearing. No alcohol here it’s BYOB. I suggest this place to anyone
