I saw this place on Chicago’s best so of course I had to check them out. They are known for their beefs. So I came all the way from Norwood Park all the way out to Bob O’s. Picked up 2 beefs dry with the juice on the side and two orders of fries. I deducted a star because they didn’t give me the side of juice and BYOPB(Bring Your Own Plastic Bag) because they don’t have any so you have to carry your food in paper bags in a box if you ordered multiple items. Now to the food. The beef was so good. Very tender and flavorful. I just wish they gave me my juice on the side. The fries are fresh cut and they give you a big sack of fries. Probably one order will feed 2. So I definitely will go back. They just need to listen to their customers better because I like my beef sandwiches juicy and that was a very simple request and provide your customers with plastic bags. Every other place I go to even down to the dumpy little Mexican joints I’ve been to give you plastic bags. It’s easier to carry your food instead of a stupid box.

Thank you. I drove here from Elk Grove during my lunch break, so I was limited on time. I wanted to try the beef since I haven’t had it in a while. I ordered and found out it was cash only. I planned on using my debit card. Good thing they had an ATM machine. Oh wait, the ATM wasn’t freaking working! Thanks guys. Al’s Beef isn’t too far away, so I went there. Al’s is better anyway.

I live in Long Grove but was working in the Dunning area. After seeing«Chicago’s Best» last night I decided to stop in and get myself a Sunday treat. The only negative I will say is that the young lady at the register was far from friendly – however, I can assume they have been busy due to the show. So I ordered a beef, wet, with giardinara and fries. Food came up pretty quickly considering there were others in front of me. When I got home, the fries were a tad soggy– duh… hello…you just drove for 35 minutes, dimwit. I popped them into a heated oven for 7 minutes and they were delightful. The beef! Truly a wonderful«homemade» style beef sandwich. Totally tasty and totally tender. The giardinara was crunchy and fresh – not a mouth full of olive oil slime. I only wish I lived closer. I prefer this style sandwich to the chain beef any time!

Very tasty beef samiches! Tasty fries, good Italian ice and ice cream. Outdoor seating is ideal for good weather.

Really wanted to like this place, and I did, but can’t say it’s all that special. The beef was good, and plentiful, but nothing special — not a lot of flavor. Hot dogs were just OK — lots of fries, but for $ 3.50, I expected more(maybe poppy seeded bun) No specials — like 2 dogs with a drink — so what you see is what you get.

Definitely one of the best beefs I’ve tried. Not the best but almost. The bread didn’t hold to well as it ripped during the middle of me eating it but still not disappointed. Their fries were also very good.

Don’t get me wrong, this place probably has the best beef in the area. Really love it. My problem is with some of the workers there. Came to try to fill a large order at 11 o’clock on Sunday, and I just had this attitude of it’s too much work for me to slice, sorry you should’ve called earlier. There was no wine, or know people there at that hour. It was just as lazy I don’t really have time to serve you attitude that I felt there. Too bad for them, I went over to Luke’s on Harlem they took my order and no problems.

I stopped in for an Italian Beef sandwich and French fries. Best beef in ages, and best fries ever. I happen to like them«well done» and they were perfect. I was assisting a client with catering for a casual Saturday evening dinner at her home, following her son’s Bar Mitzvah, and noticed a catering menu as I was leaving. I took a menu and called a few days later. I spoke with the owner and he was so helpful and accommodating. I ordered two pasta dishes, Italian Beef with au jus, sweet peppers, and giardiniara, Italian sausage, meatballs, and salad. The food was absolutely fabulous. And I mean fabulous. Everything was fresh, delicious, and generously portioned. I never eat meatballs that I don’t make, but I ate these. The au jus was fabulous, and the red sauce for the pasta and meatballs was delicious. I can’t get over how good everything was, and neither could the guests. Some were Chicagoans, others from out of town. Every person from Chicago said they would go to Bob-O’s and order catering in the future. All of the out of town guests were sorry they don’t live in Chicago. Everyone loved the food and some guests went back for seconds and thirds! On one hand I am thrilled they are in my neighborhood, on the other hand, I’m a bit worried about visiting too often!

I went there for lunch after hearing about it on chicago’s best. The beef was good. I liked the homemade fries. I did not like the cash only because a beef with sweet and hot fries and a large coke was almost $ 13.00. This is way to expensive for me. Johnnys is under $ 9.00 for the same meal but johnnies don’t have homemade fries. I won’t be going back.

Solid classic hot dog stand with a lengthy history. Stopped here after hearing good things about the beef, and wasn’t disappointed. It’s a small cash-only joint with picnic tables outside, which were in use on a December afternoon in the mid-50’s. Also 50’s-style was the interior of the place, with antique enamel signs hung on the walls with checkered tiles and stools around the counter seating area inside. There was a smoky haze inside and we left smelling like burgers, but it wasn’t really an issue. The sandwich is definitely a classic Italian beef, with very good house-made giardiniera. The beef itself wasn’t too salty or overseasoned, plenty juicy. So much so that the juice mostly runs out of the sandwich and pools in the basket. Giardiniera was the best part, and I should’ve bought extra to go. Long crunchy carrots, celery, and cauliflower mixed in with the peppers, not too oily, just right. This may be Dolinsky’s #1 beef in town, but Johnnie’s and Jay’s(on North Ave.) are still mine. Bob-O’s is great for that 1950’s atmosphere though, and i’d return again for sure.

This place is exactly what I needed. A cash-only hole-in-the-wall kinda place with a few locals scarfing down dogs and shakes. Beyond casual, eat at a counter, smell the grill from your stool – that’s what I was looking for. I had a chili cheese dog, fries, and a drink for about 6 bucks. It was pretty legit. Probably not the best in town, but way better than a fast food option. If you’re ever driving around hungry in yoga pants with a messy bun in your hair, pray to the hot dog gods that you have six bucks in your purse and you too could be as happy as I am.

Went in here a number of years ago with my sister, both of us severely hungover and-yeah, this is weird-on her recommendation I ordered two tacos and an order of french fries. THEYWEREFABULOUS! Now I still drive from the NW suburbs to get their tacos!!! They just clicked with me. And as far as Gene and Judes: ICK, ICK and triple YUCK. Hot dogs that taste like rubber; facilities flood every time it rains heavily… no thank you! Bob-o’s all the way.

Bob-O No! This place is a disaster. It is definitely not a typical Chicago joint. I didn’t try the Italian beef, but I’m very skeptical that it is even remotely good. Their hot dogs were sad and flavorless, no where near representative of a Chicago dog. Their hamburger meat is a perfectly shaped thin patty as if it was sliced from a cylindrical log of frozen mystery meat. Also, they’re cash only. How is this place still in business? And how is it possibly getting such a high rating?

So I noticed this place had a sign outside its restaurant saying it was voted best beef in the Chicago area. Although it was good, I don’t think it was the best. First — I spent 11 dollars for a cheesy beef, fries, and a small drink. That’s a little bit expensive. Second — The food was good though. The fries looked to be homemade. But Inhad better beef. I didn’t ask for extra peppers though and that was my fault. It turns out that you had to pay extra for that. It’s not bad. No public restroom though. And only cash. It is Vienna Beef so you can’t go wrong. I will return sometime very soon as there are many menu options. However, expect to pay over 10.00 for fries, Beef sandwich, and a small drink. Otherwise I would of given it 5 stars.

We’ve been Bob-O’s customers for years, but ordered 4 beefs tonight at 6:30 pm. Warmed over fies, dried out, poured into a bowl when we got home, not hot, certainly all not fresh. WHATHAPPENEDTOBOB-O’S?! Beef was still very good, but holy smoke, BAD fries.

Typical Chicago fast food joint. Burgers, beefs, sausage, fries etc. Very old school joint with old school characters, this is a good thing. Getting the beef. Can Bob O’s unseat Mr. Beef as the best beef around? NO! Nope not on this day. Solid beef, better than a number of other places. Not nearly that of Mr. Beef. But that nasty garbage they call a Banana Shake. Haha here is an Alexander Graham Bell moment, how about putting actual bananas in your banana shake. Yeah your right I’m probably on crack rock, but just try it. We might get lucky and it will taste better.(Ask Jess Café how to do it right) This crap tasted like a liquified version of those circus peanut candies. Let the regurgitation commence! Oh now it tastes better the second time. .(SMH) Respectable beef, horrible banana shake. Not planning on coming here again especially since Mr. Beef is between here and my home. Work on that shake people. That ish is aweful! 2.5 stars for a decent beef and old school vibe.

I’ve seen the episode of the Chicago’Best featuring Bob-O’s. While many hotdog joints are claiming they are the best in Chicago, please let Rosa J. be the judge because she eats, and eats a lot. She will travel miles with her own skinny legs and brutally Unilocal about each of the places that she has visited. Please understand that Bob-O’s only takes cash, but they do have an ATM onside for your convenience. It was rare to see Rosa J. had a few bucks, in cash. Of course she would be spending on food. The menu is all priced very reasonably. In average, an entrée is between $ 4 to $ 5. Plus a drink, you won’t be paying more than $ 6. I ordered the chili cheese dog and a 12 oz. lemonade, for under $ 6. The hotdog wasn’t humongous, but it was filling. It also came with fries, which were crunchy and salty. I wasn’t «wowed» by the hotdog, yet it was some good-quality food for the Dunning neighborhood standard. I still prefer the«Hot Dog Station» in my hood, Albany Park(see my review on HDS). Nevertheless, if I happen to be in the neighborhood again, I will be thinking about Bob-O’s.
