I used to play at Bixler all the time as a kid. When I was older I’d still come to sit on the benches to chat with friends. It’s always clean and in a safe area.

I’ve brought the kids here a couple times, and I just like the vibe here. A lot of the parents know each other, there’s cultural diversity(not that I don’t love my N/NW side playgrounds, but…), and there are a lot of toys that people have brought to share(although some of them have seen better days and should probably be thrown out). Bonus that it’s right across the street from Medici :)

What a great spot in the middle of Hyde Park! I’ve come here for picnics(it’s right across from University Market, where you can grab a sandwich and a soda), or to play on the swings and pretend I’m ten again. when I lived in Blackstone, the desolate walk to campus in winter was always brightened by the sound of laughing kids playing at Bixler as I walked home.

I miss Bixler! As a nanny, I spent days and days and days there for about 4 or 5 years. It’s such a great spot — close to the U of C campus and all the little fun places on 57th(the Med, 57th Street Books, University Market, etc) and it’s also next to the Ray School playground and ballfield area. One fantastic thing about Bixler is the diversity. I so loved that. Also, it’s clean and safe, whereas at other Hyde Park playlots, I’d find dead rats and the occasional creepy, smoking lurker. Bixler is big and has a lot for various ages — big kid swings and baby swings, a great big sandbox, a climber, a curly slide, and a big thing that shoots water in the summer. Oh, love and miss. Such a great place for kiddos.

some times you can catch a glimpse of college students here to study, and little kids play here all the time.

This park is located across the street from Medici bakery on the Univ. Of Chgo’s campus. It is an attractive little park that also has a playlot that was built in the late 1990’s. A good place for students to enjoy the weather or for parents to take their kids to the playground.
