This place is all about it’s beer and sadly I don’t drink beer. So I settled for cider and I got one on tap. What I like about this place is that it’s very similar to a british pub, with a library and games in the back, I even saw a family with kids there. I would definitely recommend the Mac and cheese, it was delish. The jenga is a little sad since most of the pieces are gone, but still fun if you are drunk enough, and with the right company. The bar itself has a lot of open space and turns into a sports bar on occasion. It can get loud sometimes though but all the beer makes up for that.

Good food, good beers; what you’d come to expect from an above average Irish pub. Service was on point. Nothing bad to say about the place. I was with a large group and they have plenty of table space to accomodate. I also noticed they do things for even bigger groups in the back of the place. But… Nothing that really wow’d me about the place either. I do like all the books on the shelves. That’s a cool look.

My girlfriend and I recently moved to Roscoe Village and have been touring the nearby restaurants to get a taste of the neighborhood. We came in Beckett’s one friday night and we were pleasantly surprised. There was live music and a cozy atmosphere. We went earlier in the night so it was not too crowded. I ordered the Blue Cheese Burger and it was scrumptious and cooked to perfection. I loved the bun which was nice and buttery and the onion rings were crunchy in a good way. The blue cheese was lumpy; which is how I like my blue cheese and was melted very nicely. I will upload a picture so you can see what I mean. The bar area is decent, we sat in the outer bar where there are very comfortable booth seats. when the bands not playing we have been before and the area near the stage is a library. There are tables all around the library area and it had an AWESOME ambiance for a not super classy but fun date. Good Food, Fun Atmosphere, Great for Dates, Very Comfortable.

This is independent of the lousy service… taking 10 minutes to get a beer(which were wrong) when it was nearly dead. These were the WORST hot wings I have every had. I have had better wings from the frozen dinner aisle than here. First, they were so salty that I couldn’t finish them, my tongue may seriously have a ‘salt burn.’ I can’t judge the actual taste as all I could taste was salt. Do they use preservation techniques of the 1800s? Also, I believe they sauce had substantial food coloring. I’m not going to go into details on that… so please use your imagination. If I were a Nebraska fan, I’d be looking for a different bar!

Went for lunch today. Ordered shepherd’s Pie, came in a very shallow bowl, so not much volume at all. Tasty, but salty. Ordered a coke — total: $ 15.99. Yep Sixteen dollars !!! No appertizer, no dessert, no beer, just a shallow bowl of salty shepherd’s pi. I am done.

Oh so many beers on tap. I love it. I have never had food here but their drink service was fast and very nice both times I went. They have kind of a classy atmosphere which I like and it is not too loud so you can actually converse with other human beings around you! I will definitely return here many times in the future.

Super quaint, including a fireplace, bookshelves with legit books lining them, and a staff full of Irish lads and lassies. Amazingly comfortable atmosphere, whether you’re having lunch with your grandparents or doing Irish car bombs with your co-workers. Beer list is beyond extensive and food is way better than it needs to be. Fried fish is sublime, and mac and cheese is awesome. An acoustic duo — Drew and Paul — plays the first Friday of every month and is always entertaining.

ONLYGOFORBRUNCHORBEERS. DONOTEATDINNERHERE. See my previous review for what I think of their brunch. I went last night for dinner. Super disappointed. Here is why: A) They do not have iced tea! No idea why. B) The Artichoke Cheddar Dip was nasty. It was gloppy, had a pool of oil on top and was overpowering with garlic(and I’m Italian and love my garlic) The toasted bread served with it kept falling apart and was impossible to eat. Not that I wanted to eat it, but it was $ 9, so I’m going to eat it. C) I ordered the Pub Club with herm mayo on the side. The Club came with no mayo on the side and my server was nowhere to be seen. Another server saw us looking perplexed and went and got the may for us. While this is not a big deal at all, it just adds to the frustration of the evening. The Pub Club was OK. Very dry. D) The b/f ordered the Shepherd’s pie and was really excited, until he bit into it. Loaded with salt. Blech. How bout some other seasonings? A huge disappointment. Not coming back for food other than brunch.

Not a bad spot… Last minute dinner spot due to it’s location and the fact that I was starving. While I don’t understand how some of the menu items fit the«theme»… lettuce wrap tacos?, I do think the food is solid and really well priced. The buffalo strips and the lettuce wrap tacos were really tasty. Also, the spicy ketchup… yum, though I couldn’t feel my lips. The sweet potato fries were good, but I wish they would have held up better to dipping — they sort of fell apart. Solid food — I’m going with a 4. Service was friendly and relatively quick, which was nice — a 4. I think it’s a cute spot and the fireplace area in back is exceptionally nice. Atmosphere = 4. Value — definitely a 5 — great pricing(beer = $ 4!) and the appetizers were really nicely sized as well as reasonably priced. Bathrooms…nice, though they had seen a long day I think, so a 3. I’m not sure I will head here often as I’m not typically in this area when it’s dinner time, but it’s a cute spot and I would definitely recommend it.

Our overall experience was disappointing, at best. I went with a group and Beckett’s looks cool and the layout is great. I love that they have games you can play too. They have a little area in the back set up like a library, with paintings, books, and the whole shebang. We had a group of 7 and were able to sit in a half-booth/half-table that was able to fit all of us comfortably and then-some. Now for the bad, when we first got there, maybe three minutes in(if that), a picture fell off of the wall and hit my friend. It hit a ledge first, luckily, as it made a sound, so he was able to cover his head and didn’t get too hurt, but it still nailed his arms/shoulder. The server came over to ask what happened, but when she did it, at first it sounded very accusatory, which hit me the wrong way. She did end up apologizing and at the end of the meal they comped my friends order, which helped bring some redemption. Next, as per other reviews, yes, inventory is a weakness of theirs. Three of us started with mimosas, only to find out that they ran out of champagne and needed to get more. I thought that meant from the stock area, but it took so long for the third mimosa, that mimosas number 1 and 2 were done, by the time they came back with the third one. I swear someone must have ran to the liquor store to get more champagne. Later on, another friend ordered a 312, which, it turns out they were out of and then my other friend ordered spinach is his breakfast sandwich, they were out of that too(which, we did not find out for at least a good 30 minutes after we placed our orders). They have a very interesting menu and we were all excited to try our food. Most of us ordered from the brunch menu and our food was so-so. However, we did order piggy fries from the main menu and those were really good. I think the main menu may be the way to go.

A friend and I stumbled upon Beckett’s this past Friday night after we stopped in the Pony Inn and decided we were way too sober to stay there. Any how I immediately liked the ambiance of Beckett’s. It was funky and cool and the kind of place I could see myself becoming a regular at. I especially loved all the bookshelves and the wide array of seating. However, there was a truly awful cover band playing and it made the whole place lose a star(the hot Irish bartender informed me the place is usually packed on Friday evenings but the cover band drove everyone away). We didn’t eat but the food looked and smelled pretty good. There was a large beer list and the drinks were pretty affordable. All in all I liked Beckett’s. I hope to be back soon and giving it a better review when I see a normal crowd and get to try out the food.

Holy crap. I had the most amazing burger last night. Well it wasn’t exactly a burger because it was a pig on top of a beef patty– it was awesome! The Hogs Gone Wilde is possibly the most satisfying burger I’ve ever had. Several slices of perfectly braised pork with caramelized onions and apple slaw on top of a burger. OMG. Also the sweet potato fries come with an amazing garlic dill sauce. I personally think dill is nasty but it really worked in this dipping sauce. The beer list is quite impressive here too, however, they tend to be out of a few at any given time. I went for the Bears game yesterday and it was comfortably crowded. I will come back. That sandwich is MINE!

Proving that you can hit a home run when behind in the count: Out of Finch’s Golden Wing? Strike one. Out of Goose Island Green Line? Strike two. Kilkenny on draft?! You have it? YES! An extra kudos to bartender/waiter Paul for serving the ENTIRE place(several dozen patrons by 10pm) by himself for several hours on a Thursday night, with charm to boot. Tip him well.

Beckett’s definitely failed to impress. We came in to a nearly empty bar on a Thursday night this summer and when we left we were wishing we had walked a few extra steps to Northdown Café and Taproom down the street. Our waitress knew next to nothing about all the beers on their expansive list so a recommendation from her just wasn’t happening. After asking for 3 different beers that they were out of, my boyfriend settled on their $ 4 Green Line special. We both ordered burgers, him the Hot Lava and me the Brat Don’tcha Know and neither was very impressive. The Hot Lava was no joke with the heat-don’t even try to attempt this unless you can handle it. The burger was juicy and tasty but nothing special. Same with the brat burger– just not impressive and overpowered by the spicy mustard. The fries were ok, the sweet potato better than the regular, but too oily/crispy in a bad way. Another super annoying(and in my opinion ridiculous) thing is that they won’t let you make omissions with the burgers. My boyfriend originally wanted The Most Interesting Burger in the World but without the mayo and they said no can do. Seriously? Its not like its a casserole that’s pre-made. Bad customer service in my opinion, apparently the chef’s ego is more important than accommodating the customer. Oh well, at least we had a 20% of coupon… and we won’t be back.

Meatloaf yum! It’s good, so get it. It’s the blend and the topping, all of which are simple to make at home, yet here it’s so good. So see if its on special some night and stop by. Attractive women, decent bar specials, board games in decent condition for use, an inviting area for groups at a fireplace. It’s that collegiate den you miss from the ol’ days or that convenient group meeting spot to rekindle old stories. What’s strange is that alike the bar before this, Belly’s, it pulls in local post college cuties. Except the food now is way better than previously. There is one dish I greatly dislike which is the tempura style chicken fingers which I think is off the menu now. So we’re safe. The place you want to watch a college game at or rock your favorite Bears jersey and scream with other fans. Enjoy a decent meal or invite a cutie to a solid game of Jenga! The lights are bright, so no worry.

We went back here to try the food and were not disappointed. There burgers can hold there own with anyone on my Burger List. I got the ‘Hot Lava’ which is their version of every burger places ‘spicy burger’. The difference is that Beckett’s doesn’t hold back like most places do. They smothered this thing in habenero marmalade — which is as fiery and intense as it sounds. If you enjoy spicy food, you know that nothing is better than having your lips scorched off eating a delicious spicy burger and dousing the pleasure/pain with an ice cold, hoppy IPA. My wife got the slider flight which looked delicious. I loved«The Most Interesting Burger in the World». Did I mention they have over 300 beers and about 20 on tap?

So why not be the 108th review for this very well appointed pub? Lucky for me they are located around the corner from my cousin’s place, so while in town we walked over for a quick meal. We had the world’s most interesting burger, the fish & chips and the veggie burger. The batter on the fish & chips was delish. The veggie burger was… curious and was maybe pureed… something. Not sure if the burger lived up to it’s most interesting title but my cousin seemed to enjoy it. Interestingly when I ordered a bourbon and water, our waiter… who was also a bartender wasn’t sure how to serve it. The whiskey list is quite good as are the prices. And I loved eating in the library area, complete with fireplace(that was on despite the 90 degree temperatures). Definitely worth a return visit.

Admittedly not the most rockin’ spot at 5:45pm on a Friday night, however it’s not bad! I’d compare Beckett’s to places like Brownstone, Jack’s and Logan Bar & Grill: Nicer than a dive but clearly not an upscale lounge. Something more middle ground where you can get a civilized drink in a non-sketchy environment. I can get down with that. I see Beckett’s as a solid 3 stars with room to improve.

Becketts has a great atmosphere and lots of space. We came here a few weeks ago to sadly watch the Bears loose to the Packers, sorry to re-hash that wound. I am getting old, I’m almost 28. So, long gone are the days where I will wait outside in a bar line for hours to get in and watch a game. Beckett’s was perfect, we got there 2.5hrs before the game started and were able to snag an AMAZING table with big comfy chairs right next to the fire place and alongside one of Beckett’s trademark book shelves; and if you are wondering if the books are real, surprise they are. I took a little time to read a line or two of Angels and Demons! Our server was not overly friendly but she was very efficient and we never went thirsty so can’t complain. I split the WILDEBURGER with a friend and it was a burger, a good burger, but a burger non the less. I decided a few years ago that I needed to boycott Wriggly for my own good so Beckett’s is definitley a good less fratty alternative in the area.

Beckett’s Public House is a great addition to this area. When I pushed open the door– I couldn’t believe that this place used to be Belly’s(a place I accidentally walked into one day and swore to never return). Beckett’s is an upscale, classy bar which I should have expected given it’s a sister bar to The Wilde. The dark wood bar runs the length of the front room. The exposed brick walls are hung with black and white prints and I really like the use of the partial brick walls separating the front room from the back. In that back room– there is more of a library feel with loaded bookshelves, more dark furniture and a fireplace to cozy up to. If you want to watch a game– there are plenty of wide screens to do so, but they don’t detract from the overall feel of the place. I decided to sit at the bar and checked out the menu. There is a nice range of foods(many familiar favorites from the WIlde) but I ordered simply– just some of their«smothered fries». A perfect accompaniment to my beer, these tasty fries were covered in a cheesy beer sauce that has had me hankering to go back. Loved the service– the bartender Trish and I shared a few moments lamenting about the men in our lives, laughing and«crying» about how it’s a wonder men and women get together ever at all. I need to go back just to hear how her story ended on that particular weekend. Great ambiance, excellent service and good food. Sounds like a winner to me!
