I love This BBQ spot and it’s well worth the travel especially for the Beef Ribs which are extremely hard to find in Chicago. My they are very meaty and tender. My only issue is its not guaranteed that they always have some so you have to call ahead to make sure

If I could only give ½ a star I would. Customer servive from the big & tall chick was the worst. My order of tips had to be trashed because it was all fa & could not be eaten. I didn’t find this out until after I had ordered a pan for the next day. I immediately went back to cancel my pan. But went thru heck to get my deposit back because a manager wasn’t there. But I didn’t give the money to a manager. Bad food and horrible service.

It’s solid, with honors to the sauce, though this was my first time eating rib«tips.» The cut was pretty lean, and more to my liking. The white bread was hilarious. I would advise wearing clothes that is OK with you smelling like a campfire, forever.

WARNING: ITISTHEGHETTOANDTHEYAREGOINGTOGIVEYOUGHETTOCUSTOMERSERVICE!!! They used to have good food… Not anymore… The ribs are tough as a tree. My experience? Well… let me tell you about that one: I ordered a jumbo tip link combo. Barbara Ann’s is on 76th and I went to the 100’s to eat. Only to find that there is NOLINK in the combo. I called and told them. They said to come back. On the phone I told them that I want to be compensated for driving from the 100s back there. They said«OK, just bring it back.» Well, I went back and waited in line again! When they finally got to me, I told them: no link was in the dinner, I want to be compensated for driving back up there and handed them the food. Well… why did I do that??? She told me that I wasn’t going to tell her what I wanted and that I need to wait until I am offered something in compensation. She said she knows that the customer is always right, but I wasn’t going to talk to her any kind of way. I didn’t talk to her any kind of way. I said I wanted to be compensated for my drive. What was wrong with that??? Even the patrons in line agreed with me. But it gets better… Remember now that I brought the food back there and gave it to her. She took it and gave it to the person chopping the ribs. She warned him not to touch my food. Not to touch my food. In other words, all she was going to do is put a link on the food that I brought back there and give it back to me!!! Really??? Really??? Once I realized what was going on I simply asked for my money back, I received it and left… forever. If you want hood ribs, go to Lem’s. At least they will treat you better. But please, don’t waste your time here!

Using the reviews I thought the food would be so much better. The tips were very big and a bit tough. He tips are ok. I will try another place for rib tips.

I had the rib tips with wings and fries. Was around nine dollars. The barbecue sauce that they use is delicious and they really give you a lot of food. I was able to get a few meals out of the portion size. I will definitely be back.

This place has some damn good BBQ. I got the short ribs and hot links all with spicey sause and, you get tons of food! For $ 10 I had this huge pile of short ribs and two delicious hot links smothered and spicey BBQ sauce! This is how BBQ should be made! And their hot links are traditionally made. BTW if you are white, make sure you are in and out after you get your food. My nutty ass brother decided we should eat in the car down 76th st with the engine off. I did not mind the stares by all the people walking by giving us the«what the hell is your white asses doing here» stares. What we did mind was a group of gangsters hanging out right next to our car and inching closer and closer to us, they also got louder and louder as they moved closer and started acting disturbed we were there, so we had to leave because the attention was not pleasant. I am not paranoid, I am a former south sider but I know when I am not welcome somewhere, so if you are a white person like me, go in, get your food, then leave the area!

WOW! Been going here for years but NEVERAGAIN. The customer service here is the worst. Busy sat. afternoon, I drive from Hyde Park to patronize and was accused by a loud mouth employee of trying to pick up food with a torn ticket? I explained that I hadn’t received my order and she stated that I was trying to run a game. This woman eventually gave in but not with out a debate. She refused to identify herself when I asked for her name, but I was told that she was the manager Paulette Bozeman. This woman had no manners, did not apologize and told me its ok if I never come back Guess what I wont and encourage others to do the same unless you like driving to a motel in a crime ridden neighborhood for overpriced food and rude service.

FYI — They are a cash only establishment. It was the fourth of July and my usual plans had fallen through. Unbeknownst to me every BBQ place in the city is open on the fourth now. Places had lines wrapped around the block and hour long waits. Barbara Ann’s had one of the shortest lines, just out the door unto the sidewalk, so I went there. I noticed even though it is quite old, it was very clean on the inside. That right there will keep me returning if I’m in the area. I got the holiday special, which was a slab, and a small tip/hot link combo for $ 22 and added a small spaghetti. I got the sauce mixed. The service was fast. I thought I would be waiting about 40 minutes, the wait was less than a regular rib joint on a Friday night. I went up the street to get a pop and when I returned they had been calling my number for a while. Oh my god, the ribs almost brought tears to my eyes. They were just like my mom’s used to be. The sauce was just okay, which was also how my mom’s used to be. The rib tips were decent and I’m not a big fan of hot links, but there’s was really good. The spaghetti was reminiscent of home cooked spaghetti for a large gathering. It had more than enough ground beef and was seasoned. Not cooked with bell peppers and onions, but was way better than I had imagined. Not that sweet crap, I can’t stand when people sweeten spaghetti. The prices are amazing. A ½ slab is $ 9.00, large tip $ 9.75, the side of spaghetti was $ 2,25…and I believe tax is included in the prices. They have pound cake for those with a sweet tooth and a machine of can pop that only takes coins, which is why I had to go to the store for a pop.

I’m so over this place. The service is the killer for me. Food is good, portion size is decent, and price is within reason. With that said, there are other BBQ places in Chicago where I can receive faster service minus the attitude… 2 stars because the food is good(–4) for attitude and service.

A friend of mine got a group together to go down to Barbara Ann’s to get BBQ one day after work so I tagged along. The bbq ribs were great — among the best I’ve had. I wasn’t really a fan of the house-made hot links, though. Maybe not enough fat in them, I’m not sure, but they just weren’t my favorite. I would definitely go back for the BBQ, though. And I love the way they enclosed the grill so that it looks like a BBQ aquarium!

A friend of mine seems to be on a barbecue quest and has gone all over to try barbecue. As of late, he’s focused on the South Side and it brought me here to other night. It’s packed and disorganized with one lady and working the counter and in two modes: taking orders or giving out orders/taking cash. The wait can be pretty substantial and a lot of customers start to get disgruntled, which is pretty easy to understand since it’s like an applied psychology experiment: hungry people+limited space+high temperatures=some tempers flaring. I would honestly knock it some more but I can’t when the Hot Links are delicious and spicy and the beef ribs are melt of the bone soft and the sauce is a good accompaniment to both. Obviously, I ordered the combo and at the suggestion of the lady at the counter I asked for mixed sauce on the side allowed me to control the amount of sauce I put in there. I should have asked for extra sauce on the side since it was so good-the mix struck a good balance with the meat-particularly the hot link because it set a sweet/spicy kick to the already spicy hot link-which was surprisingly hot. My friend got the full rack of ribs with the mild sauce and I got a taste of it which was on the sweeter side but still very flavorful. If he hadn’t have saved it for his kids I would have probably eaten more of it.

I ordered BBQ Chicken and Turkey Link combo… and it was Just awful, but Friendly and Quick Service. :-) Went on a Thursday evening… too late to be eating crap like this… that’ll will teach me. The chicken is not grilled, but fried. The Combo’s are not the best deals, you only get two items. The sauce is good, hickory. But i don’t think it’s homemade, it taste very familiar. Maybe they are better with Swine!

This place is tremendous. I spend a lot of time in my car on the SS and I’ve hit most all the BBQ joints and this one is by far my favorite. I’ve even done a taste test with Barbara Ann’s and Lem’s with slabs of ribs. Where’s Lem’s tends to be dry, Barbara Ann’s is perfectly moist. Better sauce too. Of course, it’s carry out only. My one tip would be to get the sauce on the side thus saving your once crisp fries from drowning.

Like the other poster who gave it a bad review, I also came here during off hours in the middle of the day. I am really unhappy with the food I got. I ordered it hot, like I do with all the ribs I order at every barbeque place. What I got, though, did not taste like barbeque with some heat. It tasted like pork slathered with hot sauce. I tasted no smokiness or sweetness, though there was certainly enough heat and tang(which I like). The sauce had separated, so that the entire bottom of container was just clear oil with the sauce solids in little clumps. It was as if they had just given me pork in oil. The meat itself was very dry and chewy. You know that feeling when you put a piece of meat in your mouth and it fills your mouth with this overly meaty, stale taste? It comes from really unfresh meat. That’s what I got, and it was gross. I also grabbed a piece of meat and it ended up being a gigantic piece of bone marrow, which completely repulsed me. I could not eat any more. I’ve gone to my favorite barbeque places during off hours before, and though sometimes the ribs tend to be a little less tender, the drop in quality wasn’t this severe. I wouldn’t try this place again.
