Great banh no Saigon classic sandwich! What a great surprise!

I came here because it is close to my place of work & I heard it was decent from my coworkers. I’m a vegetarian so I ordered the mushroom soup and boy was I disappointed. They literally prepared it entirely by using a microwave… microwaved veggies… and then added broth that completely lacked flavor. You’d think they would be embarrassed preparing it that way in front of a customer. It tasted awful and I paid 8 dollars for it.

This place is amazing, the food is quality and the owners are very nice and work very hard to turn out quality meals. The interior is small and it is not the best place to sit down and eat, everyone I know who eats here wishes they would expand or create another location. They are more environmentally friendly than a lot of places(recycle bins and recyclable food containers). Lunch is always super packed, which is a sure sign that the food is awesome! Plenty of Vegetarian options.

Opted for wonton soup on a whim. Large is definitely meal-worthy. Basic but tasty dish.

Any restaurant that says«you ordered a lot of food» as they hand me my phở and spring roll doesn’t deserve stars. If you felt i was ordering too much you should tell me your portions are large as I order or just keep it shut. Yes I ordered a big thing of soup… Thanks, you are as good as the guy checking my groceries who asks me if I am on my period. I had no idea I ordered a side of food shaming

DELICIOUS. I tried the Lemongrass chicken sandwich and am hooked. The bread is apparently back fresh daily and it shows — so soft, but still crisp. What I realized about the sandwiches here is that they’re largely the same — they have the same toppings(pickled carrots, jalapenos, cucumbers, cilantro, et), just the meat changes from one sandwich to the other. The flavors can be a little overwhelming, so I wish there was a little more meat and a little less of the toppings. But overall, I am a fan.

Perfect rainy day food! I came here and dined in once and got take out once. The beef phở tastes great! It is a huge portion and there is ample veggies. I’m not a huge fan of the cut of mean they used but it was notably less fatty which is good for a modern place like this. On a different occasion I got the pork bahn mi which was good. Their veggies were less picked and seasoned than I usually go for but it was good. The bread was perfect. It didn’t destroy the roof of my mouth that other baguettes sometimes do. Overall, great place in a great location! Belmont needs more good asian food!

The lemon chicken sandwich is one of the best around town. The quality of ingredients is obvious.

Not spectacular but good, fresh bread on the sandwiches. My Phở was just ok(reason for the lower rating). Looking for a richer, saltier broth.

I eat here at least once a week. Food is always fresh and delicious. The chicken rice soup always goes good with a nice curry chicken!

I had a lemongrass chicken sandwich. They advertise that the bread is baked fresh daily, but there’s really nothing special about it; it’s a white hoagie roll that they toast. They toast the bread before making a sandwich and it just doesn’t toast well. It just seems like an average white bread. Still, it was pretty good. The chicken seemed like it sat around for a while. The veggies on the sandwich were fresh. The service was really good. Their selection of soda is pretty limited. They have 3 – 4 flavors of fanta and that’s about it.

Super delicious. Famous Vietnamese recipe, get the lemon chicken or more authentic I pork sandwich. ALL are delicious. Definitely use the Hoisin sauce at the table!

So maybe I’m partial to the Southeastern Asian nation that brings us delicious cuisine and cheap manicures, but Banh Mi Baget steps it up a notch. The inside of the restaurant is adorable, and made to feel less sterile(a huge problem for a lot of newer places in this part of Lakeview) with cute wood chairs and paneling. I loved the instructions on both how to eat phở and what’s in a banh mi – very neat and unique! The spring rolls have multiple vegan options, which are great! And boy howdy, are they YUMMY! Seitan, tofu, OR just veggies!(swoon). The phở is great as well, though could come in larger portions. The place also does daily specials as well, so check it out quite often.

Yes to this place! Really good food at a reasonable price. I had the Saigon Bánh mi sandwich and a wonton soup. Both were really good!

I stopped in for lunch and had the spring rolls. I had the chicken and beef. Although both were decent, they didn’t taste too authentic. I would definitely eat them again, the beef slightly better than chicken. The staff is really friendly.

I think a four(4) star rating is fair to this place, in terms of choices of restaurants in the Lakeview neighborhood standard. To be honest, the taste of a banh mi is slightly subpar in comparison to the Nhu lan bakery on Lawrence, yet it was still palatable. I ordered the lemongrass chicken banh mi. The prices of items are higher than items offered in the Nhu lan bakery, approximately $ 1 to $ 2 higher than other city of Chicago neighborhoods. However, commodities in higher price points are to be expected in the Lakeview neighborhood. I also ordered the Vietnamese iced coffee. I’m assuming this is meant to be sweet, but it was exactly what I needed as my early afternoon pick-me-up before I began my shift today. It’s a fast-food style joint, so it’s mainly self-service. Nevertheless, the young man behind the counter was friendly. I think I will consider coming back here when I’m in the neighborhood.

Why 4 stars? In short, it’s a fine way to scratch that itch for Vietnamese food if you’re pressed for time and can’t make it over to Argyle. Long list of vegan options that are all very tasty(i.e. the spring rolls with lemon grass tofu are my favorite). But you don’t go into McDonalds expecting a burger as good as DMK, so don’t come to this Vietnamese fast-food place expecting phở that’s as good as Argyle. The broth is a little too heavily spiced and the beef brisket has the texture of pulled pork — not bad, but lacking the subtlety of the broth and tender medium rare beef you get on Argyle. The banh mi follows a similar script; fine but not as good as Argyle. Service isn’t really a component of the experience here as your interaction with the staff is as minimal as it would be at any fast-food place. So with all that said, I come here quite often and am a happy customer but I stick to the vegan options because that’s something they do better than Argyle and I don’t always have the time to travel over there to get other goodies like phở and bahn mi.

Cute little banh mi joint! Had the grilled beef banh mi sandwich and really enjoyed it! The beef was cooked perfectly with the right amount of sweetness and saltiness. Definitely will be coming back when my next Vietnamese craving hits!

Stopped by here with some friends before a full day of touristy mayhem. We ordered a bahn mi and split it. can’t put my finger on it – but it’s different from what we were used to. I can’t say that it was necessarily bad, but I couldn’t help but feel like something was missing from the sandwich. For a quick snack though, it’s worth stopping by for a quick fatty snack(that doesn’t necessarily feel like one).

The bf, a gf and I stopped by for a quick snack. We split the bank mi. Pretty usual banh mi with all the stuffings. The bread was perfectly toasty but everything else was just okay. Price is pretty high compared to how much I can get it in Philadelphia. I thought the décor was cute and rustic.
