If you live in Uptown or Ravenswood, do yourself a favor and come here for a an hour or two every weekend. The food and coffee are excellent and it has a laid back vibe. The strata and frittata are delicious.

I took a croissant making class here recently and loved it. I walked away from the class with a box filled with over 15 beautifully made croissants(all types) to share with family and friends around the holiday. The class was very small and allowed me to get plenty of 1 on 1 attention. The owner Bill is incredible kind and knowledgeable. I can’t recommend the restaurant and the class enough.

Here’s the thing — I stopped by the place this morning to grab some pastries and the place is really nice. Very rustic feel and you can see their actual bakery. The selection is really good and the cookies I got were soft and delicious. But the credit card machine just happened to break down two customers ahead of me and the staff member got frustrated. I can understand but still doesn’t justify crappy customer service because of that. Would I go there again? Probably. But maybe not in the morning.

You can’t beat Baker & Nosh for a fantastic weekend morning. Their fresh croissants are to die for and the coffee is fantastic. I’m not a morning person, but I haul my butt out of bed to make sure I get a croissant before they run out.

Stopped at Baker and Nosh early on Sunday morning while making our way to Montrose dog beach. The staff could not have been any more cheery or friendly if they tried(but not in an annoying way). We were initially just going to grab some drinks and pastries to go, but they were so inviting, we decided to sit at one of the outside tables(of which there are many). We were there just before 8:30am with no one else in line, but by the time I was grabbing napkins and forks, a line several people deep had formed. All of the baked goods looked amazing and it took us longer than it should have to decide what we want. Opting for a sweet and savory combo, we got a cinnamon roll(very large, fluffy, and not overly sweet) as well as a tomato-chive-egg puff pastry thing. Both were great and filling. Prices were pretty standard for this type of fare. Easily found parking out front along with dog friendly outdoor seating. Wish we lived closer so we could come back more often!

I live down the street, and love, love, love having B & N in my neighborhood. The coffee(La Colombe!) is the best, the pastries are always fresh and delicious, and the lunch offerings are also outstanding. The quality makes the slightly higher prices worth it, so stop in here instead of walking further down the block to Starbucks!

I love this place! My GF and I used to come here for their biscuits & gravy(mmmm!) and coffee(provided by La Colombe. Again, mmmm!). They have ample seating and on nicer days a beautiful outside garden/patio to sit in and enjoy all their delicious offerings. Aside from breakfast, they have plenty of other drinks, sandwiches, flatbreads, pastries, and soups to choose from.(Soups change everyday I think, but they cycle through the same recipes for a while). The ambiance is quiet enough and it’s usually not too crowded; a great place to come and read or get some work done. Better than Starbucks any day. I will say though, they are a bit on the pricey side, compared to other cafes of this style. For me, though, that’s not a deterrent. This is a cozy little spot with a great atmosphere and yummy food. Definitely worth a visit.

So I live right up the street and think this place is amazing. A lot of people hype it up The only reason I give them 4 stars instead of 5 is their pricing. I don’t mind spending money, but their prices are incredibly ridiculous. Their food is outstanding, but I’ve been to many similar places around Chicago and their prices are never nearly as steep. Possibly re-think some of the prices.($ 10 bucks for a BLT sandwich with nothing else included… What?!) Definitely recommend stopping in though. Their pastries are magnificent — and I love being able to sit outside

Croissants, bread cookies, what’s not to love? Every item is delicious. I’m partial to the Nutella and raspberry filled brioche they have a small and large size. I like to share the love and watch people as they swoon when they taste it. Sandwiches and soup too. My favorite lunch item is any one of the crunchy, perfectly topped flatbreads. You can’t go wrong.

I tell everyone one I know about how much I love B&N. I stop here at least once per week(lately 2 – 3 times since I’m home more) for a perfect vanilla latte(iced or hot) or even just their regular coffee. Unfortunately for my wallet and waistline I also almost always get a pastry while I’m here — they’re all so amazing! Their chocolate croissant is the best I’ve ever had, their brownies are soft and decadent, their banana bread is exquisite. I could go on and on. They also make delicious breakfast and lunch sandwiches. I’ve had both many times and they’re quite delicious and filling. Worth the extra couple bucks you pay. I even commented to them on Facebook once that the bread on the lunch sandwich was too thick and dominated the sandwich — they replied to my post and the next time I had a sandwich, it was thinner and perfect! Great customer service, if you ask me! The patio is perfect to relax and work or read on and they also have a nice outdoor grassy yard with chairs inside as well. One last thing, and I hope they don’t mind me posting this, but some people are afraid to ask: their WiFi password is: coffeecake Enjoy this gem of Uptown!

It was a quick walk from where I was staying. I sat inside with a view of the beautiful patio everyone talks about & the place wasn’t very full so it was a great atmosphere to just enjoy a quiet meal to yourself alongside a good book. The food was okay for prices that could be cheaper. I got a few different pastries which were all delicious, especially that sticky bun. Enjoyed a noticeably fresh turkey sandwich with a bowl of soup(lemon chicken orzo) that wasn’t too memorable. Would recommend(already have) & certainly a place I’d go for a relaxing breakfast or lunch without all the fanciness next time I’m in town.

I frequent this place quite often. They have a wide selection on their menu; pastries, coffees, tea, sandwiches. I especially love the pastries; freshly baked, soft dough, large portions, wide variety(blueberry muffins, cinnamon rolls, coffee cake, etc). They use to have a cheese shop next door that I’m hoping will re-open soon. They also use to sell gelato in the summer. Hoping they get back to this too. The staff is friendly for the most part; some more than others. The friendly ones greet you with a smile when you walk through the door and if they know you they might make a little small talk too. The only reason I’m not giving this a 5 star rating is because the prices are a little high.

Super neat café with an old skool«fried green tomatoes» kinda feel. I had an artichoke and cheese flat bread that was yummy & satisfying along with some apricot bar that was delightful. I loved the atmosphere, quiant, quiet and homey. Décor is totally like the feel of the café in the fried green tomatoes movie such as the mason jar water pitcher. They advertise hand made breads & great coffee. I’ll def come back to try again & bring my friend who thinks uptown has a bad rap but this place is trendy!

Gosh their banana chocolate chip muffin was aweeeesomeee really really good, while the brownies is super moist! Love the seating with the small garden and tiny water fountain. Just one quick feedback, it would be much better if the person who in charge in the counter is more knowledgeable(I’m asking for iced chocolate and he was confused –_-) and smiling please(it won’t hurt hehe).

Tried this place out this morning but we were too late, the breakfast was already finished at 11am. However, we decided to try the beef and chicken sandwiches and they were both delicious. I would definitely go back but this time I’ll make sure we call ahead first.

Good coffee. I would buy coffee, if nothing else. I didn’t sample any of the food or desserts. The seating area is small, but still nice. One day I may return and have a proper sit-down for taking my coffee.

This is a really nice little bakery/coffee shop with about 6 – 8 tables for in-store dining/drinking. I ordered a quiche of the day and a decaf latte and enjoyed both. The staff was nice and the bakery activity of new food being brought out was fun to watch. The quiche could have been a little warmer and more moist, and the cleanliness could have been a little better, but I will definitely be back for another try. I bet that they’re outdoor seating is wonderful when the temps are higher.

Beautiful coffeehouse & bakery. The coffee tasted fantastic. Fresh, not burnt. You get free refills if you drink it there with their mug. Great tasting pastries. The coffee cake is soft and delicious. The atmosphere is great for having quiet conversations or studying. They have a fenced outdoor area that is great to hang out in during the warmer months. A lot of people bring their dogs when they stop by. The staff is knowledgeable about their coffee and food menu while, at the same time, very friendly. You don’t feel intimidated about asking a question about what they sell. Great neighborhood addition.

I bookmarked the place and intended to try it out. The inside of coffee shop was small but cozy. I went in on a rainy day so wasn’t able to utilize the patio to sit out and enjoy my coffee and food. We ordered the red eye coffee, the regular coffee, a bacon chive scone, and a breakfast tart. They were all made in house, and you could actually see the bakers working adjacent to the coffee shop itself. The prices were what you would expect out of a gourmet coffee shop. The total came into approximately $ 16. I really did like the coffee a lot: it was bold as a black coffee should taste like. I highly recommend for people who normally drink black like myself without any add-ons to sugarcoat the flavor! If you choose to dine in, they do charge one flat price for 16 oz. option. However, if you want your drink to-go, you have an option of 12 oz. or 16 oz. the lady’s room was clean. It’s located one(1) block west to the Harry Truman College, which is the nice residential part of Uptown. They offer baking classes, but cooking and baking are not the fields of my expertise, so I will continue going there for the coffee and bakery goodness.
