A cute and interesting hidden little garden that is sadly a little overlooked. It’s nicely tended with signs identifying plants by common name, family, genus, and species. I wish they had information on how the plants are used in medicine. Next time I’ll have Wikipedia ready on my phone. I’m a regular visitor to the conservatories(Garfield Park, Lincoln Park, and Oak Park) and the Morton Arboretum and Chicago Botanical Garden. This little spot had many plants the other spots did not, so it rounds out the three-dimensional botanical information available a bit. Just don’t pick anything. Even if you’re not a plant nerd like me, this is worth a visit.

This is a wonderful space in the heart of the UIC campus in the busy Medical District. The garden is one story below street level and accessible 24 hours a day. There are a variety of medicinal herbs and signage to identify them. A handful of beautiful wooden park benches adorn the garden so people can have a seat and enjoy the tranquility. The benches are dedicated in memorial to various people including treasured UIC Pharmacology Department faculty.
