I took my husband to Morris House Bistro for a Fathers Day dinner sans kids because everyone raves about how great it is. Neither of us was impressed with the meal or the service. We had to wait a few minutes after entering before someone finally came to seat us or even acknowledged we were there. The place was nearly empty in the front room but we were still placed right next to the front door over an air conditioning vent. We arrived before another couple but they still received their drinks and placed their food order before we were even given water and asked what we wanted to drink. We ordered Crabcakes, lamb cheeks, greens and the flatiron steak. Everything was way too spicy and the greens weren’t tender at all! The Crabcakes were hard on the outside and mushy on the inside, and way too spicy. I wasn’t able to enjoy the flavor because my tongue was burning up. When I asked the server if the greens were normally this crunchy, he said to add vinegar to them to help«break them down» but that didn’t help at all. I paid over $ 100 for this meal for two people not including the tip and we weren’t able to enjoy anything except the wine. We won’t be returning.

Not very impressed. For was dry and over cooked. Went there about a year ago and have never been back. Instead of choosing their standard items we tried their specials. They weren’t very special.

Without a reservation and not expecting much, to my surprise I was welcomed to a table. Only open three days a week, this quaint house and staff are cranking out some amazing food. The atmosphere is a nice respite from the many rustic high plain desert themed establishments in this part of the country. This is a progressive restaurant pushing the local boundaries. Once seated I was welcomed by the owner and staff in a way that made me feel at home. The menu is eclectic, ranging from Blue cheese ice cream made in house, Southern inspired shrimp and grits, lamb cheeks and more. Any foodie within the area will feel a local gravitation to this fine establishment.

Best place to eat out in Cheyenne! Since it’s rather pricey, best for a special occasion. Love their seasonal menus and intimate setting. It’s a gem!

I can’t comment on the food, location or service since they don’t return messages left on their voice mail to try to make a reservation. I thought it would be a nice place to celebrate my mother’s 88th birthday since she knows Cheyenne history, but we will go to Poor Richard’s instead.

A comedy of errors. Arrived last night for our reservation for two at 7.30pm(on time). Unfortunately 16 other people did also — if you know this restaurant you know there is nowhere to wait to be seated. My dinner guest and I crammed into what was probably a 8×5 vestibule along with several other people — packed in like sardines. It takes a waitress 10 minutes to acknowledge us all. We get seated and wait another 25 minutes for a drink to arrive. No rum available for my guest, so plumped for a vodka cocktail that arrived in a mason jar — seriously that is so outdated and turned out to be very weak. Eventually our order is taken(the Lamb was off, which was my first choice but no worries I’ll take the flatiron steak). Another 20 minutes go by(no appetizer has appeared yet) and the waitress tells us the steak is now off too! Well there is nothing else on the small menu that we liked, so we contemplate leaving, but the waitress asks us to wait and she’ll see what she can do. Another 10 minutes go by — still no appetizer and the waitress comes back to tell us the steak is back on! How so, I ask — she says that she has bartered with another table to give up their steaks!!! It’s early in the evening and they have no rum, no lamb and no steak. The service was appalling — as soon as I saw all 16 people seated at the same time(I’d say the restaurant max capacity is less than 30) I knew we were in for a long wait — the kitchen was hammered. OK where am I up to — ah yes — every other table were given a bread basket — we had to ask for ours. What arrived can only be described as a deep fried dough — awful, but we’re so hungry we eat it. Now, just over an hour after we arrive we get our appetizers — oh no, we got only one appetizer, the waitress botched that up too. So we had to share the pork belly dish. It was overcooked — more like a jerky with sweet barbecue sauce on it — I couldn’t get my knife through it. My dinner guest ate it as he likes jerky. Thank goodness the waitress did botch the order — two portions of this mess would have been a nightmare. Next comes two flatiron steaks served with truffle oil fries — aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh, steak as tough as old boots and the entire worlds supply of salt on the fries which were half soggy and half so crispy they were crunchy — but the salt — I couldn’t taste anything else. We also ordered the fried corn as a side. That was the best part of the meal — and when I asked the waitress if it was corn fresh off the cob — guess what — nnnnnnnnoooooooooooo, out of a tin or frozen. She disappears and then comes back with a side order of mac and cheese(that looked as dry as the Sahara) and asks us to try that instead of the fries. I declined and asked her to take the plates away, we had had enough — literally and metaphorically. But she wouldn’t have it — I had to tell her no twice again before she would take the plates away. I suppose she tried but too little too late. We left thoroughly unimpressed and would never recommend this restaurant.

I don’t know how this place got such good reviews, I’m starting to feel like their friends or family members are leaving these reviews. I never had a 6 course meal so thought it’d be something special for 2 of us for the valentine’s day. $ 70 for each person first of all so I thought the food was going to be amazing, 1st course was 2 hush puppies on some sauce and it was extremely saulty, 2nd course I got was cauliflower soup which was very salty again the soup itself tasted good but just too much salt, 3rd was I think scallops wrapped with duck bacon which was good actually, but the waitress was keep taking our silverwares away with the dishes and when she brings our next meal she doesn’t bring silverwares so we had sit there and wait for her to bring some, but she forgot about us or something and we had ask her to bring some silverwares for us, which was annoying cause the food that came out of that kitchen was never hot by any means so by the time she brought the silverwares I’m eating cold soup or the meal is cold basically. My partner’s salad looked like a joke I mean I should’ve taken a picture of it, it looked to me like a garnish rather than a salad. And prime rib meat balls with some pasta very dry I must add and the pasta didn’t have any flavor in it. The dessert wasn’t good at all, some runny chocolate thingy with i don’t know what that hard white stuff was but it didn’t taste good. I’d rather eat at the Suite Bistro, or rib & chop than this place, you get such good food for a reasonable price and they’re fast and professional.

We went there for valentines price fix 6 course for $ 70.00 per person. This was our third visit. First course was hush puppies and was too salty. Second course was cauliflower soup which was very salty! The third course was scallops with duck bacon on Swiss chard which was wonderful! The fourth course was a pallet cleaner. Fifth course was prime rib meatballs with pasta the meatballs were overcook. The desert was ok!

It’s so refreshing to have a place like Morris Bistro in Cheyenne. It’s the opposite of a chain restaurant in every way. Menu is well thought out, unique and hardy. Service is absolutely great and if the owner is there it’s perfection! The sea food is so fresh and delicious. Highly recommend this gem in Cheyenne. Owner pays attention to every detail making this high end dining experience well worth it.

Service, atmosphere, cocktails and food are all outstanding. Plus it’s located in the home of a personal her, Ester H. Morris. Cheyenne can be a bit of a lackluster town but this place will totally make your trip Worth it. Note to vegetarians, there isn’t a huge selection but there is at least one entré. Vegans prepare yourselves to be seen as finicky. Can’t remember what u had for dessert; I only remember loving it.

For Cheyenne, this place is great. Service is friendly and food is good. I am not giving it 5 stars for 2 reasons: 1) Although it is great for Cheyenne, having traveled all over the world, I don’t think this is 5 star food and 2) dinner was a bit rushed, even though there was no apparent need to turn over the tables quickly. A place like this should let you have a leisurely meal… not an Olive Garden/Applebee’s experience. Typical American in and out service. For Cheyenne, this is the best game in town. I recommend it.

Beautiful old house, first of all, but the portions are truly minute and the prices are not. The salad looked like a garnish for«Prime Rib» Sliders(which were only little char-grilled hamburgers). Avocado BLT may have had 2 pieces of bacon total — and that’s being generous. This place has great potential — nothing wrong with the very limited menu — just serve a real sandwich!

A nice bed and breakfast turned restaurant. They have a menu of the day style dining here. The food was delicious as was the recommend cookie for desert. The super cute waitress recommended I come back and drink on the back porch. I guess she doesn’t know about my drinking problem. Like my clothes may or may not stay on when I am drinking. Which seems legit for patio dining.

This place is a must if you’re in town. By far worth the money. I ordered the pork loin which has a peach type of drizzled applesauce, a glass of cab sav and the bread pudding. Great!

Incredible food and superb service. I had the duck with orange sauce and sweet peas with yellow peppers. Duck cooked perfectly and the sauce was to die for. My hubby had the lamb shank that fell off the bone and was super tasty. It was a big portion as well. Our server was very attentive and never let our drinks go dry. It is a very small dining area(its in a house listed on the National Register of Historic places) so you need to make reservations. Perfect for a special occasion and right in the middle of historic Cheyenne. My only suggestion would be for the staff to provide some history of the place. Our server didn’t know anything about the house. It was actually the house of Esther Hobart Morris who was instrumental in gaining the vote for women in Wyoming.

It’s been a week since we ate here and I am still talking about it to anyone who will listen. You know you are having a good restaurant experience when you make plans at the table for the next time you are going to come back. Unfortunately, we came back a mere 36 hours later for the Sunday brunch and due to an unexpected circumstance, they were not open. You could cut the disappointment with a knife. But I digress. Back to dinner. We came with friends that have raved about this place for quite some time. They recommended we start with the pork belly appetizer — Big Daddy’s Bacon Steaks. For good measure we threw in the Market Street Crabcakes as well. Both were outstanding. There was some talk at the table that the bacon was a little chewy but I thought the crispy layer of fat combined with the sweet and salty of the bacon was pretty damn good. The crabcakes were light and crispy and had a perfect crab flavor. House fry bread came out complimentary and had a side of pimento cheese spread. Very good! The main dishes were where the talent really shined through. I ordered the lowland shrimp and grits. The shrimp still had the tails on which is awesome for adding extra flavor to the dish but messy to eat. The sauce had a really nice depth of flavor which made up for the fact that there was a tad much of it which meant my beloved grits weren’t as pronounced in the dish. My husband, annoyingly, ordered what I thought was the best dish at the table. He always manages to do that! His catfish with crispy polenta cake was sublime. The catfish was a nice thick piece that was perfectly fried. And I mean perfectly fried. I kept sneaking little bites off his plate… He also ordered a side of the mac and cheese which had a hint of truffle to it and took it over the top as far as mac and cheese goes. Our friends both ordered the Georgia Peach pork chop and let me have a bite. The peach sauce could not have been fresher and was the perfect essence of a peach. Naturally we were not about to pass up dessert after sampling the rest of this meal. We ordered the praline bread pudding and the blue cheese ice cream with berry sauce. The blue cheese ice cream was original, super creamy and good for what it was. I say that because blue cheese is not a flavor I often lean toward. The praline bread pudding was what dreams are made of. Oh wow. Pieces of buttery bread topped with buttery, sugary praline goodness. As a joke my husband«split» the dish leaving me with about 2 bites and he almost got stabbed in the hand with a fork. The food takes a while to come to the table as this is all home cooking. This is a place to come for an evening, unwind and just take your time.
